The switch includes a portion located outside the frame and another portion inserted through the slot of the frame and connected to the plate. A blade-positioning element is movably connected to the frame. A button includes a portion for pushing the blade-positioning element and another portion inserted through the aperture of the frame for contact with a user's finger.

Abstract: A hand tool with a cable jacket ripper in a housing of the tool is provided. The cable jacket ripper includes an opening with a blade presenting a cutting edge. Rotating the housing relative to a cable engages the blade with the jacket of the cable to pierce the jacket. Thereafter, the cable may be slit longitudinally by the hand tool and the blade. The hand tool may be a utility knife with a cutting blade positioned at an end of the utility knife opposite the cable jacket ripper.

  • Patent number: 7415745
Abstract: A folding multipurpose hand tool including folding pliers or scissors and other tool blades and bits. A pair of handles each has a pivot axle at each end. A base of each pliers jaw or scissors blade is mounted on the pivot axle at one end of a handle, allowing the handles to fold around the jaws to blades to a compact folded configuration of the tool. Each handle has frame side members with attached flanges. Elongate springs lie between the handle frame side members and fit around the flanges, rather than being riveted to the handle frame side members. The springs press against the base of each pliers jaw or other tool blade, to keep each in a folded position or support it in a deployed position. One end of a spring may be hooked around a spring retainer at one end of the handle. The pivot axles interconnect the handle frame side members and the jaws, blades, or tool bits.

Abstract: A multiblade knife unit includes a first blade pivotally moveable between a folded position within a side edge of the handle, and an extended position projecting from one end of the handle. A second blade is supported by a carriage for sliding displacement between a contracted position stored within the handle, and an extended position projecting out from one end of the handle. The first and second blades being independently deployable out a common end of the handle. The knife unit includes a third blade slidably mounted to the handle housing, opposite the first and second blades, for sliding displacement between a retracted position within the handle and an extended position projecting generally out from a second end of the handle. The knife unit may further include a belt clip mounted to a housing for encasing a can opener.

Abstract: A multiblade knife unit includes knife blades of different type normally stored within and adapted for deployment from a common end of a handle housing. A pivoting knife blade is supported for pivotal movement between a stored position nested substantially within one side edge of the handle housing, and a deployed position projecting from one end of the handle housing. A razor-type utility knife blade is supported by a slide clip for sliding displacement between a retracted position stored and concealed within the handle housing, and an advanced position projecting from said one end of the handle housing. A release button on the handle housing is depressed for releasing the utility knife blade from the slide clip for facilitating quick and easy slide-out blade removal and replacement. In one form, the knife unit may further include driver bits interchangeably mounted at an opposite end of the handle housing.
