  • Patent number: 5937526
Abstract: An attachment comb for use with a hair clipper that includes a series of teeth with lower peripheral surfaces of a particular curve that are configured for comfortable movement along the surface of a subject's head, and where the teeth are also preferably proportioned in such a manner as to permit the hair to be uniformly trimmed to relatively long lengths of an inch or greater. Specifically, in the present attachment comb, at least one of the teeth preferably includes a widened rib portion that extends along at least a portion of the length of the lower peripheral edge of that tooth. In addition, the lower peripheral surfaces of the teeth are preferably curved into a half-teardrop shape that includes both a concave curved surface and a convex curved surface. Finally, the teeth may be flared outwardly as they extend away from the base portion so that the hair being cut can be directed toward the cutting blades on the hair clipper.

  • Patent number: 5367772
Abstract: A hair clipper has a cutter head on the front end of a housing. The cutter head includes a toothed stationary blade and a toothed movable blade reciprocating on the stationary blade in a hair shearing engagement between individual toothed edges thereof. The movable blade is slidable relative to the stationary blade in an edgewise direction perpendicular to the reciprocating motion of the movable blade for varying a cut length of hairs. An adjuster handle is slidably fitted on an outer round surface of the housing and linked to the movable blade through a linkage member such that the movable blade is shifted in the edgewise direction to increase and reduce the cut length by rotating the adjuster handle about a longitudinal axis of the housing. In addition, the hair clipper can be formed in such a structure that the reciprocating motion of the movable blade is turned on and off at the opposite ends of the rotation range of the adjuster handle.

The cutter head includes a toothed stationary blade and a toothed movable blade reciprocating on the stationary blade in hair shearing engagement between individual toothed edges thereof. The toothed edge of the stationary blade is tapered to have a thickness narrower toward its leading edge along an edgewise direction thereof. The stationary blade is slidable in a direction perpendicular to the reciprocating direction thereof, for varying a cut length of the hairs to be sheared between the movable and stationary blades. An adjustor handle is slidably mounted on the housing and linked to the movable blade for effecting the sliding movement thereof. A latch is provided to latch the adjustor handle in position for fixing the cut length. A release knob projects on a portion of the handle to be accessible by a finger of the user manipulating the handle.

Abstract: The invention is directed to an electric hair cutting apparatus in which a desired length of hair is adjustable by means of a preselector slide means (72). When the hair cutting apparatus is turned on, the drive motor (90) is operated only at the setting corresponding to the preset position. The preselector slide means (72) comprises a permanent magnet (100) having associated to it a reed contact (70) which is fixedly accommodated in the casing of the hair cutting apparatus. The use of the reed contact prevents beard hair from entering the interior of the hair cutting apparatus.

  • Patent number: 5142786
Abstract: A precision hair clipper for cutting the hair of a subject to a uniform length comprises a housing defining a flow chamber attachable to a vacuum source. At the inlet of the housing a pair of reciprocating blades occupy one side of a quadrangular rim. The blades have rows of cooperating teeth facing the opening of the inlet. A bar commensurate with and parallel to the blade teeth is reciprocally translated across the opening between the teeth and the opposite edge of the rim. Hair drawn through the flow chamber is thus periodically pushed against the shearing teeth. The bar movement is coupled to the blade oscillating mechanism.

  • Patent number: 4974321
Abstract: A hair cutting guide for use with either a conventional pair of shears or hair clippers comprises a housing having first and second openings therein and a guide portion for receiving the conventional cutting apparatus in such a manner so as to define a cutting region within the housing. The housing is coupled to a source of vacuum at its output end, and its input end is coupled to at least one input member of a predetermined length. In this manner, hair is drawn into the input member under the force of the vacuum to the cutting region where it is clipped. The clipped hair is then drawn out of the housing by the vacuum to a collection area. The input members may vary in length and shape so as to achieve a desired hair style.
