  • Patent number: 4472878
Abstract: A manually operated hair cutting device having a movable spring wire extending through the device. The wire has a base end for engaging one's head to regulate the length at which the hair is cut. The other end of the wire is connected to an activator which is adapted to be moved to forward and rear positions. As the activator is moved forward, the wire is moved through the device such that its base end is moved away from the cutting teeth. When the base end of the wire engages the head, and the activator is moved forward, the device moves upward along the wire. A movable stop normally prevents the handles from being moved together to prevent hair cutting action. An adjustable engager on the activator engages the stop and moves it out of the way as the activator moved forward to allow the handles to be moved together for hair cutting purposes.

  • Patent number: 4446623
Abstract: A notching tool for forming notches in ridge- or hip-capping for roofs, the notches being formed to match the profile of the roofing sheets. The tool has a base with a pair of spaced feet which engage the ribs on the roofing sheets to align the tool. A notching head on the base has a replaceable die and punch pair, one of which is fixed to support the capping while the other is manually or power-operated to provide a shearing-type cutting action between the die and punch to cut the notches. Adjustable guides on the notching head support the capping for angular alignment between the capping and the notching head and for adjustment of the depth of the notch. The notching head may be pivotally and/or rotatably mounted on the base and the die and punch may be reversible.

Abstract: The blades of a pair of suture scissors are pivotably mounted within a tapered hood. The nose of the hood is smoothly curved and a slot is formed thereacross such that the plane of the slot is in parallel alignment with the shearing line of the blades of the scissors. The width of the slot is such as to accommodate suture threads but not great enough to receive a knot in the suture. The mouth of the slot is smoothly curved to provide convex surfaces to assist in guiding the suture threads into the slot.

  • Patent number: 4272888
Abstract: Cutting dies are mounted for parallel movement in a scissors-action handle assembly employing pivot pins mounted both forward and rearward of the pivot axis of the handles, and one of the engagement openings for a pivot pin in each die is longitudinally extended for necessary clearance. The cutting edges of the two dies are at one longitudinal end of the tool extending beyond the portion of the dies between the two pivot pins. Parallel action is guided by a pair of guide pins longitudinally spaced and to the maximum extend possible located in the plane of the die cutting edges. A compression spring is centrally located between the guide pins to bias the dies to open position. When the dies are of the kind adapted to trim venetian blind slat ends, one die aligns the blind slat by transverse ribs to the cutting edge.
