  • Publication number: 20020170184
Abstract: A control system is provided for improving the maneuverability of a handheld tool such as a knife. The apparatus of the present invention includes a control knob disposed upon the shaft or blade and spaced apart from the handle to create a finger gap. The methods of the present invention include grasping the control knob and/or grasping the finger gap while loosely cradling the tool handle. Another method includes grasping the handle and extending one or more digits of the hand beyond the hilt to grasp the control knob and/or the finger gap, while maintaining a grip on the handle. The control knob and the finger gap work together with the tool handle and the user's hand to provide improved maneuverability of the handheld tool.

Abstract: A personal groomer includes a hand-holdable housing within which is disposed a battery operated motor coupled to a cutting head assembly that protrudes at least partially from a distal end of the housing. An impeller fin assembly is attached to a lower portion of the cutting head assembly for rotation therewith when the motor is energized. Preferably the lower portion of the cutting head assembly and the impeller fin assembly are surrounded by a thimble-shaped member defining sidewall vents and having an opening in its upper surface, through which a distal portion of the cutting head assembly protrudes. A light source is mounted in the housing so as to focus light on hairs to be cut with the groomer. The groomer is cleaned by submerging the distal end of the housing assembly in water and energizing the motor. The resultant impeller fin rotation draws water into the cutting head assembly, and expels the water along with cut hairs and any other debris out the vents in the thimble-shaped member.

  • Patent number: 4887355
Abstract: The invention is a device for opening heat sealed cellophane bags and packages. It is formed of a support bracket assembly, a doubled edged razor blade, and a safety guard assembly. The support bracket assembly is secured to the bottom surface of a cabinet or shelf. One end of the razor blade is inserted into a horizontal slot on the front wall of the support bracket assembly and it is secured in position by a screw. The other end of the razor blade is inserted into a horizontal slot in a vertical wall surface of the safety guard assembly and it is secured therein by a screw. The safety guard assembly is thus entirely supported by the razor blade and at a predetermined spaced distance from the front wall of the support bracket assembly so that a sealed cellophane bag or package can be drawn between their respective wall surfaces thus allowing the razor blade to cut off the heat sealed end of the bag.

Abstract: A surgical cutting instrument comprising an outer tube having a peripheral wall, an end wall and an opening in the peripheral wall and the end wall. The outer tube has first and second cutting edges defining portions of the periphery of the opening, and the cutting edges intersect at an angle of at least about 90 degrees to define a corner. An inner cutting member is rotatable within the outer tube. The inner cutting member has a cutting edge cooperable with both the first and second cutting edges of the outer tube for cutting material with a shearing action that progresses along both of the first and second cutting edges toward the corner.

  • Patent number: 4735202
Abstract: A disposable microsurgical knife having a blade guard that can be locked into a blade covering position and then easily removed from the knife body prior to introduction to the sterile field is disclosed. The blade guard includes a cylindrical sleeve having a longitudinal slot communicating with a forward open end thereof and terminating in a circumferential notch. The knife body includes a small locking tab formed adjacent a forward tapered portion of the knife. The blade guard is initially assembled on the knife by longitudinally sliding along the knife body from a rear end thereof until the locking tab enters the longitudinal slot assisted by a funnel-shaped leading end for ease of entry. In the blade covering position, simple rotation of the sleeve forces the locking tab into the circumferential notch. For easy removal, reverse rotation of the sleeve causes the tab to re-enter the slot whereupon the sleeve is removed from the knife by sliding rearwardly along the knife body.

  • Patent number: 4735605
Abstract: An improved lipectomy device, or cannula, is disclosed having inner and outer tubes. The outer tube has an elongated aspiration aperture, and the inner tube has a spiral slot. A mechanism inside the handle of the device causes the inner tube to rotate, creating a traveling hole effect along the aspiration aperture. This obviates the necessity of the surgeon repeatedly pushing the cannula in and out.

  • Patent number: 4571827
Abstract: This invention concerns about an improvement in a vibrissa cutter. This cutter is preferrably referred to such one that comprises exterior blades mounted on an exterior shell, interior blades mounted on an interior blade rod and an interior blade turning cylinder equipped with a stopping pin on its top. A notch with a proper width is cut out around the bottom wall of said exterior shell. Said interior blade rod is combined together with said interior blade turning cylinder by means of a screw put through side of said turning cylinder and then the upper part of said interior rod is inserted in the inside of said exterior shell, and the stopping pin is to be placed in said notch. Said interior blade will turn to and fro at the same speed as the turning cylinder is turned to and fro by user's fingers to cut off those vibrissae that come into the openings of exterior and interior blades and said stopping pin is allowed to move only within the limited distance of said notch's width.
