Abstract: A manually operable ceiling tile cutting tool has a blade slidably retained in one of several pockets or slots in the tool. Each of the pockets formed by complementary grooves and ridges defines a flat blade receiving surface, is a differing predetermined distance from a bottom of the tool which corresponds to a standard dimension in a ceiling tile relief for a suspended ceiling.

Abstract: A utility knife includes a handle, a blade carrier, and a blade depth adjustment assembly. The blade carrier is mechanically coupled to the handle and configured to support a blade. The blade depth adjustment assembly is mechanically coupled to the handle and configured to permit a user of the utility knife to reposition components of the blade depth adjustment assembly to select one of a plurality of blade depth positions which causes the blade carrier to be repositioned along the handle depending upon which of the blade depth positions is selected.

Abstract: A utility knife has a counter-reciprocating blade and blade guard. Preferred utility knifes have an internal mechanism comprising several components that are advantageously coupled via one or more pivot points. Though an appropriate arrangement of pivot points, both stationary pivot points and translating pivot points, the blade and guard counter-reciprocate such that forced retraction of the guard results in forced extension of the blade. While the internal mechanism is in a locked position, the guard locked. Actuation of a trigger can unlock the internal mechanism, which releases the blade guard. Preferably a single actuation of the trigger provides for a single use of the knife.

Abstract: A utility knife having a disposable blade cartridge is presented. The cartridge can include a stem having catches, where the stem can be inserted into an opening of the knife's handle. The cartridge can be releasably attached to the handle by allowing the catches to latch on to a shoulder portion of an opening in the handle. The opening can be defined by the shoulder and a rib that separates the opening from a neighboring opening.

Abstract: A device comprising a body having a back, two sides, and a bottom attached along edges to create a body that has open top and front sides. Located on the interior and extending between the two sides are a carton supporting shelf, a slide shelf and at least one, preferably two braces. Also attached to the interior is a carton shearing mechanism comprising a first cutting apparatus and a second cutting apparatus. The first cutting apparatus comprises a first pair of cutting blades, one attached to the back and one attached to a brace. The second cutting apparatus comprises a second pair of cutting blades, one attached to the slide shelf and one attached to a brace.

Abstract: A knife includes a knife body defining a channel across which extends at least part of the cutting edge of a blade. The channel having has a base region located behind the cutting edge in the cutting direction. The knife body is provided, adjacent the base region, with flow passages on opposing sides thereof, the flow passages being out of alignment with one another.

Abstract: A blade shank that can be used for cutting corrugated sheets incorporating improvements to blade design and cutting geometries for an improved cutting action on corrugated sheets; that may include a handle, but does include a blade shank or blade base, at least one cutting edge, at least one guide member attached to the blade base or blade shank; the blade shank can be attached to a handle with the cutting edge facing rearward while the guide member is directed rearward wile the guide member straddles the cutting edge or edges.

Abstract: A preferred embodiment of a safety carton cutter comprises a first frame member pivotably connected to a second frame member to form a housing. Inside the housing mounted on the first frame member is a blade receptacle having a latch, a blade carrier, a biasing member and a follower. The follower is adapted to communicate with a cam profile located on a cam in the first frame member. The configuration of the follower and cam profile provides an extending and retracting mechanism that keeps the blade in a constant exposed position before and during the cutting process, and then allows the blade to retract immediately after the cutting process is complete.

Abstract: Generally, a box opener system which provides in a single device a configuration to generate the open condition of numerous and varied types of boxes. Specifically, a cutter element in a handle disposed between a blade element and an impact element which can be used to disengage the sealed outer flaps or the side wall between perforations or cut box liners to generate the open condition of a box.

Abstract: A plastic package opener having a body with a generally “V” shaped configured is formed from a memory retention material, by angled first and second legs held together by a portion of material. A sharp edge or blade member is held to an interior surface of one of the legs at an angle to the terminal ends of the legs. A movable blade cover may be provided for safety. A plastic package to be opened is inserted between the open ends of the legs and the blade member brought against the plastic package by squeezing the two legs together and directed across the surface of the plastic package to sever the plastic package and open the same for removal of an item or items held therein.

Abstract: Apparatus and methods of accessing a packaged medicament include placing a blister-type package containing the medicament onto a receiving area of a holder with a blister portion of the package extending into an opening in the holder. The blister-type package is held in place while a severing device is moved relative to the opening to separate at least a part of the blister portion from the blister-type package in order to access the medicament.

Abstract: A folding knife having a finger guard extension mounted to the handle portion that is operatively configured to be positioned in a stored position when the knife is in a closed orientation. The finger guard is adapted to be withdrawn from the handle in an extended position when the blade is in an open position where in one form the finger guard is adapted to open the blade when a force is applied thereto.

Abstract: The present blade device invention comprises an elongated housing wherein the housing comprises forward and rearward end portions and wherein the forward end portion defines an opening. The invention further comprises a blade holder moveable along a length of the housing toward the forward end portion and an actuator moveable along the length of the housing toward the forward end portion wherein the actuator is associated with the blade holder to impart movement to the blade holder toward the forward end portion of the housing. The invention further comprises a projection secured to one of the blade holder and the actuator wherein the projection extends in a direction transverse to the length, wherein the projection comprises a control surface which extends in a direction nonparallel to the length, wherein the other of the actuator and the blade holder to which the projection is not secured contacts the control surface and wherein the blade holder is movable in the direction nonparallel to the length.

The device also comprises an actuator positioned within the housing and associated with the blade holder to move the blade holder along the length of the housing wherein the actuator moves parallel to the blade holder within the housing. Another embodiment of the blade holding device comprises a housing and a blade holder wherein the blade holder is adapted to move in a direction within the housing. An actuator associated with the blade holder for moving the blade holder in the direction and a control surface connected to a rearward end portion of the housing and positioned in a direction nonparallel to the direction in which the blade holder travels wherein the control surface is associated with the coupling arm.

The cartridge includes a stem, and there are first side openings in the holder, and spring arms with catches thereon presented at opposite sides of the holder, via said side openings, to be manually pushed oppositely inwardly to allow slide out removal of the stem from the holder, there being additional manually graspable side openings sunk in opposite sides of the holder and spaced apart in a first direction, away from said shield, first side openings, and blade, the catches carried by the stem to protrude outwardly within two of the first side openings sunk in opposite sides of the holder.

Abstract: The present invention is a cutting apparatus for cutting and removing plastic material from a package as well as an apparatus for cutting boxes or tape. The cutting apparatus includes a main body having an applicator end and an opposite handle end. Within the main body is a slidable base having a piercing device with a sharp pointed end for piercing the material located on a first end. On an opposite second end is a cutting device for pulling and cutting the material. The cutting device has a hook-shaped tip and a cutting edge adjacent the hook-shaped tip. A device may be selected and extended through the applicator end by positioning a selector button to position the selected device adjacent a slotted opening in the applicator end. The cutting device and the piercing device are extended by sliding the base along a longitudinal track within the interior of the main body.

Abstract: A package opener having a rotating cutting wheel and adapted to cut and open packages having dye cut edges/flanges, or more specifically clamshell packages. An opposing groove is positioned to receive the blade of the cutting wheel. The package opener includes an edge receiving portion that is configured to receive the flange of the package and allow the opener to be moved along the same. The moving action results in an engagement of the package between the cutting wheel and the opposing groove, and the cutting of the same without any exertion or discomfort to the user.

Abstract: A utility knife has a protective guard that moves from a locked position to an unlocked position. Preferred mechanisms utilize a pawl that cooperates with a stop to reduce movement of the guard while the guard is in a locked position, and a simple latching mechanism that allows the pawl to bypass the stop. The pawl is disposed with respect to other elements of the mechanism such that the blade guard can only pulled back to a retracted position after operation of a trigger or other actuator, and then only for a single use. Both the stop and the catch can advantageously be carried in a fixed special relation to one another by operation of a trigger or other actuator.

Abstract: The present invention provides a package opener including an elongated body having a first cutting blade fixedly attached thereto and a second cutting blade rotatably coupled to the body adjacent the first cutting blade. The first and second cutting blades defining opposing first and second cutting edges respectively and movable relative to each other between open and closed positions. The first and second cutting blades cooperating in the open position to define a blade opening between the cutting edges thereof for receiving an object to be cut in a cutting process. The package opener including a lever attached to the second cutting blade for moving the second cutting blade towards the closed position, the lever biased for urging the second cutting blade towards the open position. The first and second cutting edges being disposed generally perpendicular to the length of the body.

Abstract: The device is a hand-held, ergonomic-friendly pull-cut tool for opening transparent thermoformed (heat-sealed plastic) over-packaging that encapsulates small consumer products. Consumers find it difficult to remove these thermoformed “clamshells.” Our package opener with pivoting blade guard safely and effectively removes these thermoformed enclosures by piercing and slicing the plastic in one smooth motion.

Abstract: In the safety cutter knife provided, a blade slide holding a blade is rotated in the direction nearly perpendicular to the longitudinal center line of the housing of the cutter knife by virtue of a reaction force from a work material when the cutting edge of the blade extended from the housing is pressed into the work material while the blade slide and the actuator slide are located at the extended position. With this rotation of the blade slide, the engagement between the blade slide and the actuator slide is released, such that the blade slide with the blade can return automatically from the extended position to the retracted position by virtue of the energizing force of a spring when the blade is released from the work material.

Abstract: An optic disk opener includes an elongate stem having an end defining an interior space receiving a spring-biased sharp member that is extendible out of the space by being manually driven, against the biasing force, to physically engaging an optic disk pack that is wrapped with a plastic film, whereby when the opener is moved along an edge of the optic disk pack, the sharp blade breaks the film. Two spaced flanges are formed on the first end to receive the edge of the optic disk pack and guide the movement of the opener. An elongate member is pivoted to the first end and movable between an operation position where a soft layer attached to a surface of the elongate member is exposed to wipe and clean an optic disk and a stowed position where the elongate member overlaps the stem to shield the soft layer.

Abstract: A rotary cutter includes a housing, a swing member rotatably attached to the housing and having a trigger extended out of the housing and having a curved slot and an enlarged opening communicating with each other. A button is slidably engaged through the housing, and includes a reduced stud to engage into the curved slot of the swing member, and a latch having an outer diameter to prevent the latch from engaging into the curved slot of the swing member. A link is coupled to the swing member, and includes a pole slidably engaged in the curved channel of the housing, and a rotary cutter blade is secured to the link with a shaft, to allow the cutter blade to be moved into and out of the working end portion of the housing by the link and the swing member.

Abstract: An art design knife structure that includes a case, the case including a left case half and a right case half that are assembled together, a blade frame capable of sliding back and forth disposed within the interior section of the case, and a push button sleeved onto the upper edge at the tail end of the blade frame. The push button projects through a slot hole in the case and, furthermore, the push button consists of two perpendicularly and individually disposed L-shaped push blocks, while the push button is capable of rotating 90 degrees. As such, when cutting objects from the left or the right, the angle and orientation is selectable by an optimal push button direction, the structure of present invention thereby increasing art design knife utility and, furthermore, enhancing their industrial practical value.

Abstract: By providing a movable, separate, and independent blade member which is normally maintained in a stowed and hidden position, a combined, integrated, multi-purpose scissors and box cutting product is achieved. In the present invention, the combined, integrated, scissors and box cutting product incorporates two arm members pivotally mounted to each other, with each arm member incorporating a blade portion and a handle portion. In the preferred construction, the movable blade member is retained within one handle portion of one arm member of the combined, integrated, scissors and box cutting product, with the movable blade member being deployed for use only upon activation by the user. In this way, the blade member remains concealed and hidden within the handle portion of the arm member in order to prevent unwanted or accidental contact of the blade member when not desired.

Abstract: A bag slitting apparatus for opening a sealed bag along an edge of the bag. The apparatus has a first arm having first outer and inner surfaces, and a second arm having second outer and inner surfaces. The arms are in tensioned movable opposed relationship to each other such that the first and second inner surfaces are movably positionable against each other. One of these inner surfaces is a bladed inner surface having projecting therefrom a bag cutting blade with a distal blade tip, while the other inner surface has a blade tip receiver. Exteriorly, the first and second outer surfaces are concavedly contoured for simultaneous opposingly-squeezing receipt of a finger and thumb of a user. Placing the edge of the bag between the blade tip and blade tip receiver, squeezing the arms together such that the blade tip pierces the bag and travels to the tip receiver, and thereafter sliding the apparatus along the length of the bag edge produces a slit in the bag through which contents can be retrieved.

Abstract: A safety cutter with a retracting guard. The safety cutter has a blade permanently held to the blade handle. The blade has a point which extends beyond the handle and is surrounded by a retracting guard. When enabled, the guard retracts into the handle when the guard is pressed against an object to be cut, thereby exposing the point of the blade. The safety cutter is made so that it may be operated either by a right handed person or a left handed person. A button override is also provided on each side of the handle so that the guard can be retracted by pressing only one of the buttons. Preferably, a portion of the override can be removed so that the guard can only be released by pushing the push button.

Abstract: A case knife (1, 101), generally consists of a pair of substantially symmetrical handle shells (13, 112). A single edge razor blade B is removably supported in one end of the handle formed by these handle shells. Each handle shell includes two moving parts—a guard (10, 110) and a thumb or finger operable button (5, 105). Each such guard, when paired with a substantially identical guard of the other handle half shell, flanks the otherwise protruding sharp edge of the razor blade. Each guard can move independently to expose a protruding corner of the razor blade. The operable button is mounted on an axle or lug (14, 103) that passes from the inside of a handle shell, through to its outside surface. This axle is in turn fixed to a cam follower (20, 120) mounted on the inside of each shell.

Abstract: A utility knife has a handle and a replaceable blade fixed to the handle. The blade has a cutting edge extending from the handle along an axis for a distance. The utility knife includes a movement mechanism, which may be at least partially enclosed by the handle. The movement mechanism is adapted to provide reversible motion along relative to the blade. A shield is connected to the movement mechanism and disposed adjacent to the blade, whereby the shield is movable between an extended position covering the cutting edge and a retracted position exposing the cutting edge. When in a retracted position, the shield may be inside or closely adjacent to the handle, so as to not interfere with handling of the knife.

Abstract: A package opening cutter is provided which can accurately, safely and efficiently open the package without damaging the merchandise inside and in which the cutter will not come out during use. It comprises an angle ruler, retaining portions provided at both sides of the angle ruler, a clamp body provided so as to be pushed into and pulled out of the retaining portion for clamping a cutter, and an arrangement for preventing the clamp body from coming out of the retaining portion. The arrangement for preventing the clamp body from coming out has a bolt slidably provided between the cutter retaining portions and the cutter clamp body. The bolt is operated by a knob provided on an outer surface of the cutter retaining portion.

Abstract: A retractable blade utility knife includes a knife housing, a blade, a pencil housing, a pencil sharpening slot, and a rear cover. The knife may further include a rope-cutting recess and a cutting surface in a lower end and a sawing surface in an upper end of the blade. The pencil housing forms in a lower rear part of the knife housing to keep hold of a pencil. The pencil sharpening slot is connected to a conical bore and a pencil chips storage room. The rope-cutting recess facilitates rope cutting by the blade. The blade carrier carries the blade and slides along a longitudinal axis of a knife groove formed in one side of the knife housing. The rear cover of the knife includes a pencil inlet hole and a rear cover fixed switch. The rear cover is detachably coupled to a rear portion of the knife housing via the rear cover fixed switch. The rear cover includes a pencil chip storage space and a pencil chip outlet.

Abstract: A cardboard box unpacking device has a blade positioned in a slanting blade groove fo a main body and a covering body for cutting off plastic packaging strap tensioned on a cardboard box, a staple removing device provided at the upper rear side of the main body for removing staples from the cardboard box and a telescopic blade device disposed at the lower portion of the covering body for culling off adhesive tape adhered to the cardboard box.

Abstract: A letter opener includes a main body section and a retractable section having a retaining piece that moves inside the main body section and a cutting arm coupled to the retaining piece configured to insert into a letter when the retaining section is in an extended position and configured to sit against the main body section when the retaining piece is in a retracted position. The letter opener can include a novelty shape formed from the main body section. The novelty shape can include a baseball cap, a basketball, a car, or a football helmet, among others.

Abstract: A utility knife including: a body defining an interior cavity, and a blade carriage slidably disposed within the cavity. The blade carriage is configured for removably receiving at least one blade, and is at least partially slidably removable from the cavity, thereby allowing facile replacement of the blade. In one embodiment, the carriage may receive first and second blades, each of which is extensible from an associated end of the body. A utility knife blade including dual cutting edges and cutting points is also provided.

Additional blades can be stored within the housing, and when desired, loaded onto a blade seat. A trigger actuator moves a blade seat carrying a blade between extended and retracted positions. The blade seat may be locked into a number of different positions.

Abstract: An improved utility knife with an ergonomically shaped handle having a cavity and a working blade holder slidably disposed within the cavity is described. A bottom release lever and a top drive lever are pivotally mounted to the handle and movable with respect to the handle for releasing and moving the working blade holder, respectively. The knife includes an extra blade holder slidably mounted to the handle and movable with respect to the handle within the cavity. The extra blade holder includes a front support end for engagement with a working blade, whereby slidable displacement of the extra blade holder disengages the support end from the working blade to allow removal and replacement of the working blade from the utility knife.

Abstract: A device for cutting and opening the packaging around intravenous fluid bags, and assisting in the removal of the capped end of the bag. The base 10 and body 16 are made out of a highly durable material to withstand constant use. The base 10 is secured to a stable surface by fasteners 12. The razor 14 is inserted into the body 26 through a slot 16, and is held in place by brackets 35. Cover 20 snaps onto the body 26, concealing the razor 14. The user lines the bag up with the guidelines 22, 22′ and slides it in between the base 10 and body 26 across the razor 14. The hook 18 facilitates removal of the capped end of the bag, readying the bag for use.

Abstract: A knife has a blade-carrying blade slide and a separate actuator slide, both urged by springs into rear positions. A transversely displaceable coupling member on one of the slides is engageable with the other of the slides for coupling the blade slide with the actuator slide for movement of the blade slide from its retracted position into its intermediate position on displacement of the actuator slide from its rear end position into its front end position and for decoupling the slides from each other and shifting transversely out of a path of the other slide on movement of the blade slide from its intermediate position into its extended position. Abstract: A cutting apparatus has been produced that eliminates the common occurrence of raw razor blades contaminating everything from food and food products to garbage cans to shelves in retail stores. Furthermore, the cutting apparatus comprises a guard assembly that, when activated, opens the blade cover and allows only one cut to be made with the exposed blade before the unidirectionally-locking blade cover snaps back over the exposed blade, thus preventing laceration-related accidents. In addition, if the operator continues to activate the guard assembly (squeezing, pulling and/or depressing the trigger and/or releasing the trigger and continuing to hold it in the released position during and after the cut has been made) after one cut has been made with the exposed blade, the unidirectionally-locking blade cover will still snap back over the exposed blade, despite the position of the trigger.

Abstract: The present invention has a safety hood which is pivotally mounted to the body of the knife at the front end. The body is pivotally mounted to a spine at the back end. The blade is removably mounted on the spine such that the hood covers the blade when the knife is closed. The hood is biased closed and has a latch to hold it closed unless the latch is released. The user depresses a button, which moves the latch, releasing the hood to push up when the user presses the hood against a working surface. The hood's rotation, and therefore the about of blade exposed, is controlled by an adjustable depth assembly. The adjustable depth assembly has multiple settings, allowing the user to control the cutting depth of the knife.

Abstract: An improved bag clamp and bag cutter is presented that is a non-obvious increase in capability over this inventor's previous bag clamp/cutter invention. The improved clamp possesses a stronger spring, an improved cutting blade with safety guard, a springboard button for pressing the blade firmly against a bag surface, and other improvements.

Abstract: A surgical scalpel includes an elongate handle defining a longitudinal axis and having a proximal end and a distal end. The scalpel has a cartridge removably mounted to the handle that has a blade holder with a proximal end and a distal end. There is a blade fixedly attached to blade holder disposed so that the blade projects distally outwardly when the cartridge is mounted on the handle. The cartridge also has a shield with a proximal end, a distal end and a bottom mounted onto the blade holder. The shield is slidably movable between a distal position where the shield substantially prevents inadvertent access to the blade and a proximal position where the shield substantially surrounds a portion of the handle and the blade is exposed for use. The cartridge is releasably mountable to the handle and has elements for substantially preventing movement of the shield with respect to the blade holder unless the cartridge is mounted on the handle.
