Apertured Blade Patents (Class 30/339)
  • Patent number: 6782626
Abstract: A fixed blade knife or bayonet having integral blade and tang portions and a handle having a cavity extending therethrough from distal to proximal ends. A slot is formed in the tang, extending from an open end at the terminal end of the tang to a closed end, with a narrower slot portion extending from the open end and adjoining a wider portion which extends to the closed end of the slot. A nut having a threaded bore is formed with a first cross dimension slightly smaller than the width of the wider slot portion and a second cross dimension, larger than and perpendicular to the first cross dimension. The nut is inserted laterally into the wider slot portion and the tang, with the nut carried therein, is inserted into the handle cavity, which has a cross sectional outline corresponding to that of the combined tang and nut. A screw is inserted into the bore which forms a portion of the cavity extending into the proximal end of the handle.

Abstract: A reciprocating saw is provided having a motor oriented within a housing for operably driving a saw bar and blade holder in a reciprocating motion. The blade holder has a longitudinal slot for receiving a saw blade, and a transverse aperture extending into the longitudinal slot for receiving a follower. A sleeve is pivotally mounted upon the body, and has a circum-axial cam groove formed therein cooperating with the follower. Rotation in a first lock direction urges the follower into the longitudinal slot for engaging the saw blade and rotation of the sleeve in a second unlock direction allows the follower to retract. A biasing member is included for biasing the sleeve in the first lock direction. The sleeve central bore is adapted to provide clearance for the follower such that the sleeve is permitted to axially translate relative to the body for assembly or disassembly of the blade holder.

  • Patent number: 6735876
Abstract: Blade clamps (26, 110) may reliably secure blades (22) to reciprocating power tools (10). The power tools may include a reciprocating drive shaft (24) partially extending from the tool housing (12). A first end of a rod (37, 112) may be attached to the drive shaft. A second end of the rod may include a blade slot (37a, 112a) defined to receive the blade so that the longitudinal axis of the blade aligns with a longitudinal, reciprocating axis of the drive shaft. An aperture (37b) may be defined substantially perpendicular to the first blade slot and may communicate with the blade slot. A sleeve (33, 115) may be rotatably mounted on the rod so as to pivot between an initial locking position and a blade replacement position. A cam surface (33c, 116) is defined on an inner surface of the sleeve. A stopper (33e, 116d) projects from the cam surface or the rod and defines the blade replacement position.

Abstract: A metallic housing utility knife and method for making the device with a soft over molded elastomeric cover to provide blister free comfort and slip proof safety. The cover or skin is molded into the unique structure of the housing in a fashion that results in mechanical bonds that embrace the cover on the housing. The knife includes flexible posts from the cover that project into the blade storage compartment of the housing to prevent internally stored spare blades from moving within the storage compartment. An elastomeric blade clamp integrally formed with the cover serves to restrict lateral movement of blades of varying sizes when installed in a cutting position within the knife assembly. A rear quick release latch and interlocking housing sections provide a convenient way to open and close the knife and assure that it is also secure and firmly held when locked in a safe cutting position.

Therefore, if a user depresses the lugs, the resilient clip body is closed or stretched open so as to fixedly latch or release a tool inserted in the slot of the front end of the grip.

Abstract: A scalpel with a blade set at about thirty degrees to the handle has a blade shield that pivots up from the handle and a shield lock that prevents accidental lifting of the shield. The shield lock includes a small movable shaft just below the sidewalls of the shield next to the handle. A small disc is at each end of the shaft close to the handle and prevents the shield from being pivoted up. A counterbore around the shaft on one side of the handle enables the adjacent disc to be pushed in, thus extending the opposite disc permitting the shield to be pivoted up to unshield the blade.
