Apertured Blade Patents (Class 30/339)
  • Patent number: 4241496
Abstract: A hand held termination tool which is used in conjunction with a termination blade for connecting conductor wires to terminals on a termination block has a handle within which is disposed a hammer assembly. A slide assembly is mounted in the handle yieldably urged to a position extending from one end thereof and disposed to receive an impact blow from the hammer assembly when forced inwardly from the extended position a predetermined distance. The hammer assembly includes a drive spring providing the force for the impact. A drive spring seat member supports one end of the drive spring and is movable between an extended and a retracted position, thereby providing a short compressed drive spring length in the extended position and a longer compressed drive spring length in the retracted position. A cam adjustable to either one of two positions selects either the short or longer compressed lengths for the drive spring and thereby a high or a low impact force respectively.

  • Patent number: 4227306
Abstract: The disclosure is directed to a utility knife which is suitable for mounting at least two different types of blades and which has an improved safety feature. The knife of the invention has an elongated handle, and means for mounting a blade of one type at an end of the handle. In accordance with an important feature of the invention, the mounting means includes means for preventing the mounting of a blade at a given end of the handle when a blade is already mounted at the opposing end of the handle. In particular, in an embodiment of the invention the handle includes a pair of elongated mateable handle elements which conform generally in shape. A pair of blade-engaging units, each of which may be, for example, a suitably sized key or nub, are respectively disposed near the opposing ends of one of the handle elements. A blade-securing pad is disposed near one (only) end of the other handle element.

  • Patent number: 4106181
Abstract: One end of an oscillating saw blade has a notch, and spaced from the notch is a hole through the blade. The head of the tool has a slot having a shaft extending through the rear end of the slot for receiving the notch. A pin extends partially into the slot for receiving the hole. A closer in the form of a cam is cammed into and out of the slot for moving the hole on the blade onto the pin and moving the end of the blade having the hole and the notch against the bottom of the slot. The cam closer is locked in place to lock the blade in the slot. A handle is attached to the cam closer for manually rotating the cam, and the cam has an overcenter orientation where the resilient forces from the blade pushing on the cam tend to rotate the cam to a closed position. A stop is provided to intersect the handle and stop it in its locked position. A jaw of resilient material may be provided between the blade and the bottom of the slot to spread forces from the cam on the blade.

  • Patent number: 4106152
Abstract: A toothbrush having an elongate handle with an enlarged base end capable of supporting the toothbrush in an upright position and being hollow for storage of the bristle head or the like therein, includes an elongate shaft fixed at one end to the base and projecting axially therefrom. A tubular sleeve is axially slidable on the shaft and the shaft has bristle head retaining structure thereon for retaining a bristle head on the handle at the end thereof opposite the base end. The sleeve is normally biased toward the base end to a first position, whereat the bristle head retaining structure is engaged with the bristle head to hold it in position and the sleeve is movable away from the base end to a second position to move the bristle head to disengage it from the bristle head retaining structure. A finger operated sleeve actuator is slidable relative to the base end and shaft to engage the sleeve and move it to its second position, and a seal is engaged between the shaft and sleeve at the bristle head end.

  • Patent number: 4027386
Abstract: This invention provides a cutting implement having supporting means with a blade having a sharp cutting edge extending from one side thereof, with handle means pivotally connected to the supporting means and extending around the cutting edge in the closed position of the implement. The cutting surface of the blade is exposed by the user gripping the supporting means or the handle means and by pivoting the handle means away from the supporting member, or visa versa, about 180.degree. to open the implement. By providing the cutting surface in a completely enclosed position when not in use, no injury could occur to the user. When the cutting implement is not in use, the handle means extends in overlapping relation to the supporting means and the exposed portion of the blade extends within chamber means extending within the handle means.

  • Patent number: 3943934
Abstract: A quick release device for a powered surgical instrument, for example, a Mueller osteotomy saw, includes a coupling having a spindle which forms a mounting surface, the spindle being driven with the coupling by the power source. Located on the spindle is a locking pin assembly movable between a locking and an unlocking position, the spindle cooperating with a plurality of concentrically disposed latching pins which latch the medical instrument to the spindle in driving relationship therewith. The medical instrument, for example, a saw blade, includes a predetermined number of apertures corresponding to the number of latching pins on the spindle, each of the apertures including a pin receiving end and a latching end. Eccentrically positioned with respect to the apertures is a locking pin receiving aperture through which the locking pin on the spindle is received.
