Abstract: The present invention is directed to an electric shaver having a shaver housing, and a shaving head housing that is connected to the shaver housing for pivotal movement between two end positions. The shaving head housing carries at least two shaving assemblies, of which at least one shaving assembly is retractable into the housing to a first, retracted position, and elastically biased toward a second, extended position, such that extension of the at least one shaving assembly is a function of contact pressure applied by a user. Actuating elements carried by the shaving head housing control a maximum degree of extension of the at least one shaving assembly as a function of a pivot angle between the shaver housing and the shaving head housing.

  • Publication number: 20090038166
Abstract: This invention employs a serrated or scalloped edge (7) on the undercutter of an electric razor to enhance the shaving performance. This improvement is achieved by promoting hair capture and retention and reducing the cutting forces required to sever the hair. The serrations and/or scallops (9) help retain the captured hair, thereby increasing hair cutting efficiency. They also reduce the tendency for the hair to “roll” along the edge of the foil aperture until it is trapped in the aperture angle; this promotes a closer shave. A serrated edge can be generated by various methods. In this disclosure, several possible methods are described. The preferred method of fabrication is to generate a weld bead on the outer surface of an undercutter blade and grind back the bead to generate sharp edges along the weld bead. In doing so, the weld bead produces a serrated pattern. The geometry of the serration is determined by the geometry of the weld bead.

Abstract: A dry shaver unit includes a housing and a cutter blade assembly mounted in the housing. The cutter blade assembly includes a cutter blade and cooperating shear blade arrangement. The thickness of the shear blade varies over its surface, such that the spacing between a portion of the skin engaging surface of the shear blade and the opposite face thereof is increased as compared with the spacing required to achieve a “close shave”. The cutter blade assembly is mounted in the housing such that a plurality of portions of the shear blade having different thicknesses are simultaneously available for application to a surface to be shaved.

Abstract: A shaving foil for a dry shaver has a plurality of perforation arranged in an array. The shaving foil is formed in its skin contact surface with a plurality of recesses which define a thin section of reduced thickness at the recesses, while leaving thick sections at the remainder of the foil. Each perforation is configured to have its circumference defined partly by the thin section and partly by the thick section. Both of the thin and thick sections can come into contact with a user's skin for smoothly guiding hairs into the perforations to make close shaving without irritating the skin, while the shaving foil is moved across the skin. Especially, the thin sections act to cut the hairs shorter than the thick section, as wall as to raise flattened hairs into the perforations for successfully cutting the flattened hairs.

Abstract: A reciprocatory dry shaver has a shaving head carrying an outer cutter, and an inner cutter. An actuator is mounted in the shaving head for driving the inner cutter. The actuator includes an oscillator which carries a joint for driving connection to the inner cutter. Resilient coupling links are provided to support the oscillator to the shaving head in order to allow the oscillator to reciprocate relative to the shaving head. The resilient coupling link has its upper end coupled to the oscillator and has its lower end which is farther away from the inner cutter than the oscillator and is anchored to the shaving head. Thus, the oscillator is supported as being floated or lifted with respect to the shaving head, thereby being allowed to travel along a path which is somewhat arcuate in coincidence with the arc of the outer cutter.
