The pressing member is made of synthetic resin and is larger in diameter compared to that of the fixing screw shaft. A connection bar is pressed by the pressing member by fastening the fixing screw shaft, and the position of the connection bar is thereby fixed. Because the pressing member has a large diameter, a dent is not generated on the connection bar. Furthermore, because the pressing member is not rotated in the fixed position, the position of the connection bar is not offset, enhancing the ability of fixing the connection bar with precise adjustment.

Abstract: This invention relates to a hand tool. The tool includes a replaceable cutting portion having an elongate cutting surface, a body and a handle. The body receives displaceable protecting apparatus for shielding the cutting surface of the cutting portion when the tool is not in use. The protecting apparatus is adapted at its forward distal end to contact a portion of the surface of the object to be cut such that when pressure is applied by pushing the tool against the object surface displacement of the protecting apparatus relative to the position of the replaceable cutting portion is effected to expose only as much of the cutting surface of the cutting portion as needed to effect the required cut in the object. Alignment means maintain alignment of the replaceable cutting portion relative to the position of the protecting apparatus throughout the cutting action.

Abstract: The present invention comprises additional embodiments in a circular saw aligning device which is not only easily releaseable but also entirely removeable from functioning engagement with either a specially made or prior art portable circular saw. An abutting assembly of the device rotates from an engaging position to a non-engaging position so the saw can be used without interference. This rotation is also the first step in removing the device entirely from the saw. The invention allows use of the circular saw when the saw blade is positioned at an acute angle with respect to the base plate. The invention also allows the user to easily and releasably lock the workpiece abutting piece out of the way.

Abstract: A rip guide for a circular saw. The circular saw includes a housing including a shoe plate for supporting the circular saw on a workpiece. The circular saw also includes a motor supported by the housing and a saw blade rotatably driven by the motor about an axis. The saw blade is operable to cut the workpiece in a cutting direction. The guide comprises a support member supported on the housing; an arm supported by the support member and extending from the housing in the cutting direction; and a guide member supported by the arm so that the guide member is pivotally supported by the support member. The guide member extends from the housing in the cutting direction. The guide member includes first and second guide surfaces for selectively guiding the circular saw relative to first and second edges, respectively, of the workpiece. The guide member is pivotable between a working position and a stored position.

Abstract: An attachment for use with a high speed mini-grinder which helps persons laying tile to undercut baseboards and door trim adjacent to a tiled surface for insertion thereunder of the edge of each perimeter tile so as to eliminate grout lines which would otherwise be required around the edge of the tiled surface. The attachment comprises a cutting blade with negative hook, an outwardly biased telescoping blade guard to cover the cutting blade at all times except when in use, a frame that is vertically adjustable for making cuts of different heights to accommodate tiles of different thickness, countersunk screws to connect the cutting blade to mounting bracket attached to the mini-grinder, and an adjustable depth stop for setting the maximum depth of the cut made into a baseboard or door trim. Applications may include, but are not limited to, use in cutting door trim including door jambs, door casings, and door stops, as well as base molding preparatory to the laying of floor tile.

  • Patent number: 5815931
Abstract: A cutting guide to be removably attached to any one of a number of hand operated power cutting tools such as, for example, a circular saw for cutting a substantially planar workpiece. The cutting guide includes an L-shaped guide plate having first and second sets of channel ears affixed thereto. First and second position adjustable guide arms are slidable received through respective ones of the first and second sets of channel ears such that the guide arms are arranged in perpendicular alignment relative to one another. The first guide arm is selectively positioned to engage and travel along a side of the workpiece so that the cutting tool moves in a cutting path that is parallel to the side of the workpiece. The second guide arm extends to a point that is spaced from an end of the workpiece so as to move with the cutting tool towards and into engagement with the end of the workpiece to thereby limit the length of the cutting path to the distance from which the second guide arm is spaced from the workpiece.
