  • Patent number: 7246444
Abstract: A cutting tool that improves operability by facilitating operation of a lever for operating a clamp mechanism of a guide member is provided. A clamp mechanism is constituted by a clamp pin that protrudes its distal end to the outside of the blade case while penetrating a depth guide and the blade case, a first lever that is connected to the distal end of the clamp pin and directly moves the clamp pin in the axial direction, and a second lever that is connected to the upper portion of the first lever through a connecting pin and has a cam lever. When the second lever is rotated toward the blade case, the cam lever presses the connecting pin to tilt the first lever, whereby the clamp pin is pulled outward. As a result, the depth guide is pressed to the inner surface of the blade case and clamped.

Abstract: A motor driven hand circular saw has a base plate arranged to be positioned over a workpiece, and a saw blade which is displaceable parallel and tiltably about a turning axle relative to the base plate for performing inclined or bevel cuts so that by tilting of the saw blade relative to the base plate about the axle, the saw blade and the axle are displaced parallel to the base plate with a stroke which is proportional to a respective tilting angle transversely to a direction downstream of a cutting point and counteracts a natural displacement of a saw engaging line of the saw blade on the workpiece.

  • Patent number: 5235752
Abstract: A portable circular saw includes motor-and-gear case pivotally supported on a guide shoe by a rear pivot mechanism for rotation about a transverse rear pivot axis, thus allowing for selective adjustment of the blade cutting depth on the opposite side of the shoe. In such an arrangement, the depth of cut setting is increased and decreased when the motor-and-gear case is rotated relative to the shoe in respective first and second directions, while an upper pivotal blade guard, which is mounted on the motor-and-gear case for rotation about the spindle, rotates in opposite rotational directions in response to respective increases and decreases in the depth of cut setting. Cam and cam follower mechanisms are provided for maintaining the riving knife and the blade and shoe in the same relative angular orientation in a fore-and-aft cutting plane regardless of the depth of cut setting.

  • Patent number: 5136910
Abstract: Flat multi-layered work pieces, such as panels with a decorative or finish surface coating (5), are prescored and cut through by the same saw blade to avoid damage to the surface coating. For this purpose a circular saw (1) is guided along a guide rail (7) and its saw blade (4) is adjustable to a prescoring depth and to at least one lateral prescoring position to make a first prescoring cut only through the cover layer (5) in a sawing direction in synchronism with the blade rotation direction. If necessary, the blade is adjusted to a second lateral prescoring position to make a second prescoring cut only through the cover layer (5) in a cutting direction in synchronism with the blade rotation. Finally, the saw blade (4) is adjusted to its full cutting depth and to a lateral position between the two prescoring positions and a full cut is made through the entire work piece (6) in a sawing direction counter to the rotation direction of the saw blade.

  • Patent number: 5121545
Abstract: An electric circular saw of the type including a mechanism for tilting a base relative to the plane of a blade is provided wherein a side knob for being gripped by the user during cutting operation pivotally connects the base and a body of the circular saw through a base attachment portion and a bevel plate having an arcuate guide groove extending through an angular distance corresponding to a tilt angle of the base relative to the blade. The side knob is threaded to the base attachment portion and movable together with the base when the base is tilted. The side knob is spaced from a guide surface of the base by a distance at least larger than a maximum radius of the side knob. The distance between the base and the side knob is constant regardless of the relative angular position of said base and the blade, so that circular saw can be held stably and hence is capable of performing an accurate cutting operation.

  • Patent number: 5007172
Abstract: The power saw is provided with a shoe pivotally mounted on a post which is mounted in a cavity of the nose section of the gear case of the saw. The post has a multiplicity of grooves separated by lands which are flat between the grooves. A lock pin is mounted in the nose section transverse and spaced from the post. When the pin is in its normal locking position, the round exterior of the pin engages one of the grooves on the post to retain the post and shoe in position relative to the saw. The lock pin has a flat section which is parallel to and spaced from the flats on the post when the pin is rotated to the release position freeing the post and shoe for movement to adjust the position relative to the saw. A lever is mounted on the end of the pin which projects through the side of the gear case. The inside of the lever has a dimple which engages the soft boot covering the gear case.

  • Patent number: 4982501
Abstract: In a portable circular saw depth of cut adjustment is effected by pivoting movement between a shoe 24 (which supports the saw on a workpiece) and a motor and gear case housing 26 (carrying the saw blade 12) about a pivot connection 28 rearward of the motor and gear case housing. Forward of the housing 26 an upwardly extending arcuate depth slide 38, fixed to the shoe 24, slidably engages an arcuate depth guide 40 carried by the motor and gear case housing 26. Towards the upper end of the depth slide 38, and in generally fixed relation to it, a clamping assembly 42 selectively clamps the depth slide 38 and depth guide 40 together to establish a depth of cut adjustment setting. The essentially fixed relationship of the locking knob 100 of the clamping assembly 42 to the shoe 24 mean that the operations of changing depth adjustment setting may be made without changing operator's hand positions on the saw.

  • Patent number: 4412381
Abstract: A blade housing for a cast cutting tool which is used to remove a cast from a patient is disclosed. The housing is polygonal shaped and includes a number of sides through which the circular saw blade of the cast cutting tool projects. The saw blade projects a different distance from each of the sides. The housing engages the body of the cast cutting tool so that the housing can be rotatably adjusted about the shaft mounting the saw blade. By rotating the housing, a different side can be presented to the cutting area. In this manner, the side having the desired distance of projection of the saw blade, or the desired depth of the cut, is easily selected by the user. The housing acts to collect the dust generated by the cutting, and to help clean the dust from the blade a felt covering on the flat sides is provided.
