Abstract: The invention is directed to a motor-driven chain saw having a housing and a guide bar extending forward of the housing. The guide bar is clamped between the housing and a sprocket wheel cover. A brake device having a trigger configured as a hand guard is mounted in the sprocket wheel cover. The sprocket wheel is brought to standstill by the brake device when the trigger is actuated. With the sprocket wheel cover assembled, the hand guard is disposed transversely in front of the upper handle of the chain saw. In order to obtain a reliable triggering of the brake device, for example, during kickback and for a manual triggering at all areas of the hand guard, the hand guard is supported in a second bearing on the housing of the chain saw when mounting the sprocket wheel cover. In this way, torques acting in a direction opposite to the actuation of the hand guard are substantially avoided which could otherwise occur because of bearing play.

Abstract: A hand-held power tool with a rotary driven tool, in particular a planer or a circular saw, is arranged so that on switching off the drive, which can be switched on and off by means of a trigger (15), a brake element (34), which is ineffective when the drive is switched on, is brought into braking engagement with a brake part (51) rotatingly driven by the drive. The tool comprises a safety element (21) which co-operates with the trigger (15) and which can be displaced between a safety position in which the trigger (15) cannot be moved to switch on the drive, and a release position in which the trigger (15) can be moved into the position to switch on the drive. The safety element (21) is urged by spring pressure towards the safety position and is held in the release position when the trigger (15)L is in the switch-on position.

Abstract: An attachment for use with a portable power planer for consistently producing a scarf cut of a particular angle in sections of plywood or like material which are to be joined to form a continuous piece of material. The attachment produces the scarf cut by positioning blades of the power planar at an angle in relation to the horizontal top surface of the plywood or like material. The blades of the planar, when moved longitudinally across said plywood or like material, removes a section of plywood or like material corresponding to the angle. Consistent angles are maintained and scarf cuts are produced quickly and consistently in materials to be joined.

Abstract: A sheetrock beveling apparatus having a housing with a substantially planar surface on one side thereof. A handle is attached to the other side of the housing. A blade is rotatably attached to the housing about an axis and includes an electric motor for selectively causing the blade to rotate. An elongated guide is attached to the housing on the planar surface thereof so that it can travel in a seam between two abutting pieces of sheetrock to guide the blade along the edges of sheetrock to bevel the abutting edges of the sheetrock. This elongated guide extends longitudinally transverse to the axis of the rotation of the blade. The blade is longer in the center portion thereof than at the sides thereof to produce a tapering effect so that the more sheetrock is removed closer to the seam and progressively less is removed from the edge of the sheetrock as the distance from the seam between the two pieces of sheetrock increases.

Abstract: The specification discloses a hand held portable facing device to be used primarily for facing polystyrene building panels after installation. The facing device is constructed of a frame, a wire planing element, and tension arms which mount on the frame for keeping the planing element taut. The facing device incorporates an electrical power system which conducts electrical current from an external source, through an electrical power unit, through a safety switch, through the wire planing element, to the frame and earth ground which are electrically interconnected. The current flow heats the wire planing element and enables it to shear a flat polystyrene panel. Guide arms capable of resting on and following the flat panel are incorporated into the frame, and the tension arms and wire planing element are so attached to the guide arms that the wire planing element follows the path of the guide arms leaving a flat smooth surface.

Abstract: A cutterhead for a power planer has an elongated core with threaded holes for releasably mounting a pressure plate with a cutting blade being clamped between the pressure plate and the core. The core has a support surface contacted by the cover portion, a contact surface contacted by the pressure plate, and a transition surface therebetween. The support surface is inclined to the contact surface at a angle of more than 180 degrees and less than 270 degrees. This arrangement helps compensate for tolerances associated with the securing screws, and reduces any tendency for imbalance in the cutterhead when rotating. A pair of cover portions may support opposite sides of the cutting blade adjacent its cutting edge. The cutting blade may be a profile blade.
