Abstract: In order to achieve an improved chip and shaving ejection in a portable per, a small portion of the motor cooling air stream is diverted and directed through an air passage into a chip ejection channel. The volume flow of this chip ejection air stream may be controlled by a control slider gate to suit various operating conditions. The chip ejection air stream also serves to cool the drive belt and planing head. The diverted air flow keeps the chips in a sufficiently loose state to assure an effective, clog-free ejection of chips. Furthermore, a deflection flap is used in the chip ejection channel to eject the chips to either side of the tool as desired.

Abstract: A planing tool has a rotary planer head driven rotatably by an electric motor. The planer head is removably connected to a drive shaft which comprises a plurality of elements which can be axially disengaged to enable the planer head to be easily replaced.
Abstract: A hand-held planing tool has a housing with a chamber adapted to receive a rotary driven planer head. The chamber is sized to receive either a small planer head and blade which makes a shallow flat planar cut in a workpiece, or a larger planer head and blade which makes a profiling cut (e.g., an irregular cut) in a workpiece. The housing carries support members which extend downwardly to different depths to contact the portions of the profiling cut which are of corresponding depths, and thereby adapt the tool to travel along the profile.
