The device comprises a housing, a drive plate, a main drive shaft, a cutting assembly having a cutting blade, a cam plate and a chain drive secured to a motor housing, having a handle, by a mounting bracket. The chain drive is powered by the motor, which causes the main drive shaft to rotate. The cutting assembly is pivotally secured to a pin on the main drive shaft. The pipe/tube to be cut is placed into the hole in the center of the housing and the main drive shaft. As the cutting assembly rotates with the main drive shaft the cam plate forces the cutting blade into cutting engagement with the tube/pipe.

  • Patent number: 6202307
Abstract: A motor driven, hand-held tubing cutter is disclosed, which can be held stationary by a worker while cutting the tubing, and does not require that the tubing be held in a vise or other clamping tool. The device is reversible, and upon completion of the cut, the device can be reset automatically to its initial position to receive a subsequent length of tubing for cutting. The tool has a motor-rotated cutting head into which the tubing to be cut is inserted, one or more cutting blades which are urged into cutting contact with the tubing wall by the motor-driven rotation of the head in cooperation with indexing bosses, and, once the tubing is cut through, reversal of the driving motors causes the blades to be retracted into the head, resetting the tool for further cutting. The tool may be used to cut any cuttable metal or plastic tubings, including tubing of aluminum, brass, copper, steel, ABS, PVC, polycarbonate, phenolic, etc.

Abstract: The invention pertains to a device for cutting and chamfering thin-walled pipes. In order to cut and chamfer a pipe, a drive unit with tools arranged on its shaft is manually guided around a pipe that is clamped in a vise by means of clamping jaws with a semicircular contact surface. The tools, namely a saw blade and a milling cutter, are arranged one behind the other on the shaft. The saw blade is provided with a depression, into which the milling cutter is inserted such that the outer edge of the milling cutter is protected.

  • Patent number: 5528830
Abstract: A tool for cutting tubular members has a rotatable cutting assembly adapted for mounting on the end of a tool body. The cutting assembly includes a rotatable base member having two support elements which support two cutting heads on the base member. The support elements are each pivotally mounted on the base member such that rotation of the base member causes each support element to pivot around an independent axis. Each support element has one or more weights located on one side of the axis and a cutting head located on the other side of the axis. Centrifugal force developed during rotation of the base member cause the weights of each support element to swing radially outwardly while the cutting heads pivot radially inwardly into cutting contact with the tubular member and cutting same.

  • Patent number: 5495672
Abstract: A tube cutter unit in one embodiment with self centering tube cutting and supporting jaws is rotated by a power drive unit for cutting a tube. The jaws are free to engage the tube without spring load. After engagement with the tube, a relatively high load spring is deflected to induce a tube cutting force on the jaws. The amount of deflection of the spring determines the depth of cut. A separate tool operating socket is also rotatably driven with the cutter unit. The cutter unit is coupled to the drive by a one way clutch. The drive is reversible to selective operate the cutter unit. In a second embodiment, a cutter unit without self centering jaws is separated from a power drive for manually operation and connected to the power drive for power operation. The power operator is reversible for selectively operating the cutter unit. The latter cutter unit also does not provide a spring load on the jaws except for providing a cutting force after the jaws engage the tube being cut.
