  • Patent number: 7743509
Abstract: A hand-held and hand-operated cutting tool particularly well suited for cleanly and quickly cutting plastic pipe or tubing, rubber hose, or the like is provided. The tool has a blade which is easily manually removed from and replaced into the cutting tool without the use of additional tools. The blade is slid into the tool and then rotated slightly into an initial operating or loaded position whereat a blade pivot pin may be inserted into the tool and through a hole provided in the blade. During use, the blade is rotatable in increments or steps from a retracted position in which it is substantially enclosed within the tool housing to a cut off position in which it cooperates with a stationary cradle anvil so as to sever the article to be cut. A ratchet drive interconnects a movable handle and the blade so as to incrementally drive the blade towards its cut off position upon manipulation of the handle.

  • Patent number: 6739055
Abstract: A rotatable tube cutter for cutting a tube-like work piece is disclosed. This rotatable tube cutter mainly comprises a fixing portion, a rotatable portion, a cutting blade assembly, and a feeding assembly. By rotating a feeding knob, the feeding amount can be easily controlled. So, this invention is easy to operate by one hand. It is able to work in a limited available space via repeating lift and press movements. It is possible to work in the traditional full circle rotation method. And, it has manual and automatic dual feeding modes.

  • Patent number: 6345444
Abstract: A hand-held apparatus for cutting transversely a pipe using a slitter co-operating with rollers to produce a deepening cut, is formed of two half-shells mounted opposite around the pipe with adjustable clamping elements one at least supporting a slitter or radially mobile, in the cutting plane, and the other, at least two rollers rotating in the cutting plane and arranged in pair facing each slitter on the other half-shell to compensate the cutting force in the assembly rotation about the pipe resulting from the cooperation between a tangential driving tool and catching elements distributed over the outer surface or on the periphery of each half-shell.

  • Patent number: 5732728
Abstract: A method for inserting a valve in a line includes providing a valve body that assembles on and rotates about an existing pipe. A first sealing mechanism is provided on the valve body that enables a user to selectively open (unseal) and close (seal) a gate access opening through the valve body. At least one cutting assembly is provided on the valve body for cutting the pipe as the valve body is rotated about the pipe, as well as a removably mountable gate assembly. The method proceeds by assembling the valve body on the pipe, rotating the valve body about the pipe with the cutting assembly and without the gate assembly, operating the cutting assembly to form the cut in the pipe (and removing any debris), mounting the gate assembly on the valve body, and then opening the gate access opening to enable movement of the gate through the gate access opening to a closed gate position within the cut in the pipe.

  • Patent number: 5611365
Abstract: A method for inserting a valve in a line includes the step of providing a valve assembly having a valve body with two sections adapted to be assembled over an existing pipe and a gate adapted to cut through the pipe as the gate advances from an open position toward a closed position. The method proceeds by installing the valve assembly on the existing pipe with the gate in the open position and then moving the gate toward the closed position to thereby cut through the pipe. A rotatable-pipe-cutter version of a valve assembly constructed according to the invention includes at least one cutting tooth and the valve body is configured so that an operator can rotate the body on the existing pipe while the gate is advanced toward the closed position. A guillotine version, suited for use with pipes made of polyethylene and other sliceable materials, includes a gate with a cutting edge that slices through the pipe as the gate is advanced toward the closed position.

  • Patent number: 5425395
Abstract: The tapping apparatus includes a body that receives a cutter and sleeve. The cutter and sleeve advance together to form an opening in the sidewall of a main conduit about which the body is secured. The sleeve includes external threads that grip into the conduit sidewall. Thereafter, retraction of the cutter leaves the sleeve in place to secure the tapping apparatus to the conduit and establish fluid communication therethrough. The cutter and sleeve preferably have different thread pitches so that the sleeve advances at a slightly faster rate than the cutter. This facilitates sealing engagement between the external surface of the main conduit and the body. Additionally, a one-way drive arrangement is provided between the sleeve and cutter so that once the sleeve is positioned in place, the cutter can be removed without altering the location of the sleeve.

  • Patent number: 4884485
Abstract: A plate cutting device is provided which is capable of being used to cut a plate along a curve. It is a design directed to the disadvantages such as labor-consumption, awkwardness, incapability of cutting along a curve, and incapability of cutting a large size plate of conventional cutting tools. The device is characterized in that it comprises a body associated with a curved frame, a toothed rolling wheel, and a cutting wheel. The two wheels are arranged slantly and are at a small distance from each other. In plate work, a plate with a line drawn on it is put between the wheels and the ratchet rotating wheel above the rolling wheel is swung such that the toothed rolling wheel is rotated in the same direction and the teeth thereon grab into plate and cooperate with the cutting wheel to cut the plate. The cutting direction can be controlled simply by moving the plate in a suitable direction.

  • Patent number: 4694574
Abstract: A pipe scraper for scraping the end of a plastics pipe such as a plastics gas main or water main has a framework (10) in which is journaled a helically bladed rotary cutter (14) driven by means of a lever (17). On the shaft carrying the cutter is a pinion (16) which meshes with a larger pinion (19) driving a friction surface roller (21). The cutter is held in a Reed clamp and as the lever (17) is turned it rotates the helically bladed rotary cutter so as to scrape a low angle helical scrape approximating a longitudinal scrape. At the same time the rotation of the roller (21) causes the whole framework to rotate around the surface of the pipe so as to scrape the whole end peripheral surface.
