A method of attaching a traction device to a vehicle wheel including a rim and a tire is also described.

    Abstract: An anti-skid device for a vehicle for positioning a traction member beneath a vehicle wheel includes a support member that is attached to the vehicle, a pivoting swing arm with a traction wheel with traction members thereon, and a drive assembly attached to the support member and to the swing arm so as to extend and retract the swing arm. The drive assembly includes a gear-reduced electric motor that is coupled to a worm that meshes with a worm gear that is attached to the swing arm shaft. As the motor moves in a first direction, the gear mesh causes the arm to deploy and, in a reverse direction, the swing arm retracts. Spring-biasing is provided so as to maintain pressure of the traction wheel against the vehicle wheel and limit switches are provided so as to turn the drive motor on and off.

    Abstract: The present invention 10 discloses a tire 12 traction device having two 30-ink sections 14L, 14R joined at one distal end by an additional link 16 having an S-hook 18 and two more chain links 20 connected thereto. A threaded quick link locking device 26 couples both 30 link section 14L, 14R together. When the device 10 is installed on a truck tire 12, all distal ends 20, 28L, 28R are coupled to the quick link device 26, securing the chain traction system 10 to the tire 12. The present invention 10 provides an anti-skid device comprising a chain positioned over the tread of a truck tire 12 and fastened through an opening 30L, 30R in the wheel 32 and having a threaded closed locking member 26 for engaging ends of the traction member.

The linking member, the connecting portions and the anti-skid tread portion are formed integrally with one another. The linking member is formed expandable and compressible, and the connecting portion is formed deformable in the tire peripheral direction.

    Abstract: A tire chain wrapper for a dual wheel and the method of mounting a tire chain on a dual wheel. The wrapper includes a securing bar for securing an end of the tire chain to the dual wheel, a connecting rope pivotally attached at one end to the midpoint of the securing bar, the rope being adapted to extend between the tires of the dual wheel and a rigid plastic retaining disk attached to another end of the connecting rod and being adapted to engage the wheel rims and thereby retain the securing bar over the tire chain. After installation of the wrapper, the vehicle is driven forward to wrap the chain around the tire. The ends of the chain are hooked together, and the tire chain wrapper is removed from the tire.

The bearing bowls are pretensioned against the axle. At the apex of the shaft's spherical ends, recesses are made that take-up lubrication grease and, in this way, a point-like contact between the bearing shells and the axle is eliminated.

    Abstract: A cable type tire chain has traction sleeves on the cross members located only adjacent to the shoulders of the tire. The center portion of the cross members adjacent to the middle of the tire tread is free of traction sleeves. The traction sleeves are spaced away from the middle of the tire tread by either a coil spring through which the cross member cable extends or by beads attached to the cable. The cross members are attached directly to the side members of the tire chain by flat profile hooks formed from rectangular strips of metal, so that the cross members lie close to the sidewalls of the tire. The invention provides improved traction and reduced wear of both the tire and the tire chain.
