Drive Means On Wheel Patents (Class 301/6.5)
  • Publication number: 20110062769
Abstract: A transmission unit for a vehicle wheel which comprises an input shaft having an input pinion and, parallel thereto, an output shaft with an output gear wheel, where the input and output shafts are movable with respect to each other in a translatory manner. A planetary gear wheel meshes with the input pinion and the output gear wheel. The planetary gear wheel is supported on a planet carrier axle which is common to first and second planet carriers, the first planet carrier is coaxial to the input shaft and the second planet carrier is coaxial to the output shaft. The transmission unit permits the translatory decoupling between the input and the output drives with minimal construction space. It is possible, for example, to decouple wheel hub motors from the wheel suspension with respect to spring compression movements of the driven wheel, to reducing the unsprung masses of the wheel suspension.

  • Publication number: 20100096911
Abstract: A wheel hub for capturing energy created by road bumps and converting that into energy to be used in moving a vehicle in it's current direction of motion. Energy return is accomplished by elastic spring means, although the physical principle of operation is not directly obvious. Any road shock imparted upon the wheel will result in a radial displacement of an outer wheel hub and thus a radial force toward the center of the wheel. The radial force will be released as an axial rotation imparted upon a wheel hub assembly, thus increasing the axial speed in the current direction of motion. The principle is similar to that causing the earth to rotate around the sun. The wheel hub assembly will not wobble erratically since there is a dampening component by virtue of a vehicles weight and moment of inertia of a rotating wheel. Additionally, total shock absorbtion, is increased.

The center of swing of the constant-velocity joint is placed closer to the outside of the vehicle relative to the hub bearing. An outer race of the constant-velocity joint is integrated with the wheel hub into a single part and has an opening facing the outside of the vehicle. Abstract: An injection-molded plastic gear 1 as a molded gear includes a plurality of teeth 12 formed around an outer periphery of a rim, and a plurality of blades 8 formed at distances circumferentially on an inner peripheral surface of the rim 11 to produce an axial flow of air. A radially inner portion is formed on the side of inner peripheries of the blades 8 to support the rim 11 through the blades 8. When such injection-molded plastic gear 1 is rotated, the blades 8 produce an axial flow of air passed through holes 10 from the surface side to the back side. The flow of air can be blown to a part such as an IC, a motor and the like disposed adjacent the molded gear to cool it, and the heat of the teeth 12 and the rim 11 can be taken away by a heat transfer, whereby the teeth 12 and the rim 11 can be cooled. Thus, the injection-molded plastic gear 1 has a function as a cooling fan, whereby a forcible convection (flow of air) can be produced in a gear-accommodated space.
