Also, by concentrating the contact force between the wheel-mounting flange and the brake rotor when a disc wheel of the wheel is tightened to the hub bolts to a portion near the hub bolts, the contact between the wheel-mounting flange and the brake rotor on the surfaces between the hub bolts is suppressed so that undulation of the flat surfaces between the hub bolts will not cause deformation of the brake rotor.

    Abstract: A flange face portion located radially outwardly of boltholes of a flange is formed as a tilting face so that a maximum oppositely-spaced distance ? of the flange face portion from a disc rotor is preferably 10 ?m. Thereby, minimization is implemented for convex deformation of an outer circumferential end portion of the flange when bolts are press-inserted into boltholes, when nuts are tightened onto bolts, tightening forces compress the disc rotor and the flange to be in close contact and to be fixed via planar surfaces thereof without clearance being formed therebetween. Consequently, the accuracy of side run-out with surface of the flange can be prevented from being deteriorated.

    Abstract: A knuckle-supported wheelend assembly includes a shaft having a contoured peripheral surface portion proximate to an outboard end featuring a minimum radius and a maximum radius, and a hub mounted on the shaft's contoured surface portion via a complementary, contoured central bore. The nontapered contoured hub-shaft interface includes a slight twist or jog to reduce backlash and to permit a relative shortening of the length of axial hub-shaft engagement to as little as about 45% of the maximum radius, thereby advantageously reducing scrub radius for a given wheel-tire combination. By eliminating any required taper of the contoured interface, the hub's inboard face firmly abuts the machined face of the inner race of a knuckle-mounted, shaft-supporting bearing assembly to achieve reduced assembly runout. The hub's wheel-mounting face and integral annular friction surfaces are each machined with reference to the inboard hub face to ensure a high degree of parallelism.

According to the invention the screws at their end exiting the brake ring flange (13), by way of a retaining element which, for example, may be a retaining lug (17) formed integrally on the hub body (16) or a retaining bracket fixed on the hub body, may be fixed relative to the hub body (16) so that an axially parallel position of the screws (15) and a centering of the brake ring (12) is ensured even with thermal expansions.

    Abstract: A quick release detachable wheel hub assembly is shown for a lightweight manual wheelchair. The wheelchair wheels mount on exterior hubs and rotate therewith. The inner face out of each of the exterior hubs mates with an opposing outer face of interior hubs. One of the opposing faces on the hubs has a projection or a plurality of projections which fit snugly into corresponding openings on the opposing face of the other hub when the opposing faces of the hubs are mated. The interior hubs are mounted and rotate on detachable axles which screw into the wheelchair frame. A quick release, removable locking pin is inserted through the center of the hubs and into detachable axle and locked in place and thereby causing the hubs to be locked and rotate together. The wheels are quickly detached by simply removing the locking pins and pulling apart the hubs.

    Abstract: A mounting system for disc brake rotors. Drive pins are mounted to a wheel hub. Alignment bushings having outer flanges are slidably held in slots in a disc brake rotor. The alignment bushings are each held by a drive pin inserted in a hole in the alignment bushing. Drag rings prevent unwanted movement between the alignment bushings and the drive pins. The drag rings can be mounted in grooves in the alignment bushings or, alternatively, in grooves on the drive pins. Retaining rings on the drive pins prevent the bushings from coming off of the drive pins.

The friction ring, and preferably also the support section, is comprised of cast metal and the friction ring is cast onto the prefabricated support section to form a cast connection between the friction ring and the support section. The cast connection between the friction ring and the support section is such that upon an initial heating of the brake disk the cast connection becomes ruptured and the friction ring becomes separated from the support section.
