Antilock Failure With Warning Patents (Class 303/122.02)
  • Patent number: 10407033
Abstract: An electric brake device has at least three control units: a first front wheel control unit for controlling a front-left wheel brake mechanism and a front-right wheel brake mechanism; a second front wheel control unit again for controlling the front-left wheel brake mechanism and the front-right wheel brake mechanism; and a rear wheel control unit for controlling a rear-left wheel brake mechanism and a rear-right wheel brake mechanism. In case of failure of at least one of the three control units, at least one of the non-defective other control units temporarily reduces the braking force of the target brake mechanism.

  • Patent number: 7748793
Abstract: A control system for an electromechanical brake with self-reinforcement has a unit adapted to recognize brake failure, a unit adapted to detect the actual state of motion of the device to be braked, and a unit adapted to open and close the brake upon recognition of a failure dependent upon the detected actual state of motion of the device to be braked. The unit adapted to detect the state of motion detects in particular the rotational velocity of a brake disk assigned to the brake.

  • Patent number: 7571033
Abstract: System for detecting stability/instability of behavior of a motor vehicle upon occurrence of tire slip or lock. State of the motor vehicle is determined on the basis of an alignment torque (Ta) applied from a road and a side slip angle (?). By taking advantage of such torque/slip-angle characteristic that although the alignment torque is proportional to a side slip angle when the latter is small, the alignment torque becomes smaller as the side slip angle increases, a normal value is determined from a straight line slope and the side slip angle in a region where the latter is small. Unstable behavior of the motor vehicle is determined when deviation of actual measured value from the normal value increases. Further, unstable state is determined when the slope of the alignment torque for the slip angle departs significantly from that of approximate straight line slope.

  • Patent number: 7415325
Abstract: A method and apparatus for data interchange between a tractor vehicle and a trailer vehicle coupled thereto. A first electronic device provided in or on the tractor is connected via a data link to a second electronic device provided in or on the trailer; the first and second devices being connected to sensors and/or actuators for controlling operating functions of the vehicle allocated thereto and for measuring status information. Initiated by an information request, the first device sends request data via the data link to the second device. The first device receives status information via the data link sent by the second device in response to the request data. The first device outputs, in a manner that correlates with the trailer, the received status information by means of an output device disposed on or in the tractor. The same output scheme is used for both the tractor and trailer.

  • Patent number: 7059689
Abstract: A status of one or more subsystems positioned on one or more trailers is communicated to a tractor electrically and mechanically connected to the trailer. The status may be automatically supplied by the subsystem or may be requested either by the operator of the tractor/trailer combination or automatically by another subsystem on either the tractor or the trailer. A spread spectrum data communications signal representing the status of a respective subsystem is superposed on the power bus. The status of the respective subsystem can then be determined from the spread spectrum data communications signal. Preferably, the status of the subsystem is indicated to an operator positioned on the tractor. A command for controlling a subsystem on a trailer can also be communicated from the tractor to the trailer over the power bus. A spread spectrum data communications signal representing the command is produced on the power bus, and the subsystem is controlled based on the spread spectrum data communications signal.

  • Patent number: 6747552
Abstract: A device and method for determining the status of an anti-lock brake system in a tractor-trailer configuration. The device includes a connector that can be connected to the trailer or tractor separately or connected to both the trailer and tractor simultaneously. Once connected the device begins to operate self-sufficiently by monitoring the data transmissions in a communication medium. Initially from monitoring the data transmission, the device detects whether it is attached to the trailer, tractor or both. From this determination, it either continues to monitor or proceeds to transmit data.

Abstract: A trailer ABS diagnostics display system utilizes an output device to communicate specific ABS diagnostics information to a user located within the tractor cab in the form of ON-OFF code data. The system preferably includes wheel velocity sensors, at least one brake pressure modulator, an output device, a user interface which generates a user request signal, and an electronic control unit that is connected to the wheel velocity sensors, the brake pressure modulator, the output device, and the user interface. The electronic control unit generates the ON-OFF code data which is indicative of a diagnostic condition in response to the user request signal. The ON-OFF code data is transmitted to the output device for communication to the user located with the tractor cab.

  • Patent number: 6685282
Abstract: When a method for operating a reference speed judges that an ABS control is being executed, the method judges whether the ABS control is being executed to a front wheel or not. When the method judges that the ABS control is not executed to the front wheel, the method considers that the lifting of a rear wheel does not occur, and makes the reference speed follow the fastest wheel speed VRH. When the method judges that the ABS control is being executed to the front wheel, and further judges that a reference body deceleration is a predetermined value or more, the method considers that the lifting of the rear wheel has occurred, and makes the reference speed follow a speed VRM. The speed VRM is a wheel speed calculated in accordance with the following formula: VRM=&agr;VRL+(1−&agr;)VRH (0<&agr;<1), where &agr; character VRL indicates the slowest wheel speed, and a character &agr; indicates a default.

  • Patent number: 6501376
Abstract: A method and apparatus for data exchange between a towing vehicle and an attached trailer uses radio contact via transmission/receiving modules contained in the towing vehicle and in the trailer. To recognize that the towing vehicle and the trailer are connected, the transmission/receiving module of the towing vehicle transmits an identification signal, and at the same time, changes the electrical status of a connection line between the towing vehicle and the trailer. If the transmission/receiving module located in the trailer recognizes the change in the electrical status of the connection line simultaneously with receiving the transmitted identification signal, the identification signal is stored within the trailer. In subsequent communications between the towing vehicle and the trailer, the identification signal is always transmitted before the message. As such, only the attached trailer, with the appropriate stored identification signal, can communicate with its towing vehicle.

Abstract: A control device for an antilock braking system is disclosed. When a target angle of a crankshaft provided to a servomotor of an ABS that is closer to a turning limit than to a predetermined updating stop angle, the target angle is set at the updating stop angle or the vicinity thereof. An expander piston is displaced to an open end side corresponding to the turning limit of the crankshaft by an elastic force of a return spring after being displaced to a position corresponding to an updating stop angle for the crankshaft or the vicinity thereof. This arrangement permits reliable, accurate displacement of the expander piston to a predetermined position corresponding to a turning limit of the crankshaft without causing the servomotor to consume needless electric current.
