Abstract: A junction box 2 is formed at a mounting portion of a meter unit 3 disposed at a central portion of a rear handlebar cover 1 in a motorcycle, and wire harnesses 12 and 14 connected to a vehicle body and a front handlebar cover are connected to the junction box 2. Bus bars 31 and 33 made of a metal plate or bar are integrally embedded within the rear handlebar cover made of a synthetic resin in order to electrically connect electric parts such as switches Ss, Sd, Sw, Sh and the like supported on left and right portions of the rear handlebar cover 1 and the junction box 2 to each other. Thus, it is possible to easily and reliably perform the wiring to the electric parts supported on the handlebar cover 1 in the motorcycle.

Abstract: Seat sensor switches connected to the drivers seat and passenger's seat of a motor vehicle generate signals indicating when the seats are occupied. The passenger sensor switch generates an adult present signal, a child or small adult signal, or an infant/small child present signal depending on the size of the occupant. In response to a signal indicating that all the seats are unoccupied, the parking brake is set, a windshield curtain and a side window sunshade panel are deployed, and the headlamps and ceiling light are deactivated. In response to an adult present signal from the passenger sensor switch, a first quantity of air bag propellant is electrified, the air bag is aimed at an upper location, and the shoulder belt anchor is moved to an upper position. In response to a child or small adult present signal from the passenger sensor switch, a second, smaller quantity of air bag propellant is electrified, the air bag is aimed at a lower location, and the shoulder belt anchor is moved to a lower position.

  • Patent number: 5808374
Abstract: An improved driver interface system provides prompts to an operator to adjust several vehicle parameters. In this way, the operator is assured to adjust the necessary components upon start up of the vehicle. This is particularly important when the driver is unfamiliar with the car, as with a rental car. In one embodiment, the driver may be provided with a transmitter that stores desired settings for at least some parameters. The transmitter can then transmit the operator's desired parameters to a control, and the vehicle components can then begin to be moved to the desired positions as the operator approaches the vehicle. In other aspects of this invention, improved switches are disclosed. A rotary switch rotates on a steering wheel rim. This switch is easily accessible to an operator, and does not require the operator to divert attention from the road. A second type switch includes an element which is sensitive to touch by the operator.

  • Patent number: 5789827
Abstract: A system selectively completes a horn circuit through which electrical power is provided to a horn in an automobile. A relay is connected to a power supply and completes the horn circuit when a current signal passing through the relay has at least a threshold magnitude. A relay driver is selectively activated by processing circuitry. When it is activated, the relay driver is in a conductive state, and when it is not activated, the relay driver is in a high impendance state. When the relay driver is in the conductive state, it places the relay in series with a low potential conductor thereby establishing the current signal at at least the threshold magnitude. The processing circuitry is electrically connected to a manually actuated sensor, which may be a flexible potentiometer. The processing circuitry activates the relay driver when the manually actuated sensor is actuated.

  • Patent number: 5774065
Abstract: In a remote control system, each time a transmission code is transmitted, a rolling code having a prescribed bit configuration is cumulatively varied. An operation process is performed between each bit data item of the rolling code and each corresponding bit data item of the ID code, whereby each bit data item of the ID code is varied in correspondence with the rolling code, thus setting a variable ID code. Since the ID code itself which is contained in the signal is also varied in correspondence with the variable code, the fixed portion contained in the signal is decreased with the result that the ID code is almost infinitely widely varied. Accordingly, it becomes almost impossible to decode the ID code even if it is intercepted.
