  • Patent number: 4518881
Abstract: A linear motor employing two spaced planar magnets which are removed from the bobbin and coil of the motor to thereby reduce heat transfer. The support structure for the magnets and bobbin are configured to facilitate magnetic flux transfer between an outer pole and an inner pole of the motor with a minimum of flux leakage. The gap between the inner pole and the outer pole which accommodates a bobbin and coil is configured to provide a generally uniform force on a bobbin when displaced by the motor and also increase the amount of force exerted on the bobbin by increasing the flux transfer. The magnets preferably comprise a plurality of magnetic blocks.

  • Patent number: 4121125
Abstract: The invention relates to an oscillating electrodynamic compressor having an electromagnetic drive which maintains a radial magnetic field in an annular gap in which a coil is arranged for axial contactless movement. The coil is mounted on a plunger guided inside a bore of a cylinder member forming the compressor. The plunger and coil unit is held in position by a pair of vibrating springs so as to provide a resilient support bearing on the one hand on the magnet drive and on the compressor on the other hand. The springs overlap the cylinder so that the planes in which the springs bear against the plunger and coil unit intersect the cylinder bore guide for the plunger even during the stroke of the plunger.

  • Patent number: 4121124
Abstract: An electrodynamic force generator or vibrator employing plural ring permanent magnets and a round magnetic structure of the center gap type that is split on a horizontal plane passing through the center and a support and guidance system for supporting the vibratory table and coil consisting of a plurality of horizontal damped cantilever springs joined to "C" shaped damped compensating springs. Typically, a round drive coil of plural turns surrounds a central core or pole of the magnetic structure and is influenced by flux on all sides. Shorted turn coils surround the drive coil and are stationary upon the outer pole to provide reduction of inductance. The drive coil is attached to a table structure which is supported and guided in the magnet structure.

  • Patent number: 4090097
Abstract: An electromagnetic device comprises an annular member and a core member the latter having formed in its slots and the annular member having projections located in said slots. The projections and the adjacent wall of the slot define attraction faces which when a winding located in the slot is energized, are attracted towards each other thereby to produce relative movement between the members. The other faces of the projection are provided in accordance with the invention, with a coating of an electrically conductive material so that when the windings are energized eddy currents flow in the conductive material which act to assist the relative movement of the members.

  • Patent number: 4057744
Abstract: An electromagnetic device comprises a pair of a plurality of pairs of helical coils the turns of the coils being alternatively arranged. Each of the coils is formed from a length of tubular magnetizable material and within each coil is an electrical conductor. The conductors in the turns of adjacent coils carry electrical current in opposite directions and the walls of the coils which are adjacent each other are of reduced section so that when the conductors carry electrical current, magnetic flux leakage occurs and the turns of the coils separate thereby producing an extension of the coils which is transmitted to a pair of members.

  • Patent number: 4053975
Abstract: A wire is wound on a coil body form about a removable mandrel in a first layer in which the turns abut one another. A guide ring reverses the direction of lead of the wire to form a second, overlying layer in which the turns are spaced a short distance apart from one another. The final turns of the outer layer engage about the coil form. A casting agent applied to the coil penetrates the turns of the second and first layers and is hardened. The mandrel is removed and the coil is self-supporting, for use as in a moving-coil motor. A fiberglass sheet may optionally be applied about the first layer before the second layer is wound thereover to increase the strength of the coil.

  • Patent number: 4049997
Abstract: A dynamic mechanical system is driven at its resonant frequency by a drive system which maintains the vibrational amplitude of the system constant. A displacement transducer senses the mechanical displacement of the system and provides a displacement signal which is used to generate a control signal related to the energy necessary to maintain the mechanical system in resonance. The zero crossover points of the displacement signal are shifted in-phase 90.degree. and used to selectively switch the control signal to provide an in-phase drive signal for the system. An offset correction system senses any asymmetry present in the displacement signal and adjusts the drive signal to compensate for such asymmetry so that the mechanical system operates about a zero point of the displacement transducer.
