Shadow Mask, Support Or Shield Patents (Class 313/402)
  • Patent number: 5433974
Abstract: A method for producing a shadow mask not susceptible to doming which includes in the preferred embodiment the step of heating boron in a vacuum atmosphere of 5.times.10.sup.-5 Torr at 2500.degree.-2600.degree. C. for 12-20 sec to deposit a boron layer of 1 .mu.m on the surface of a shadow mask and introducing nitrogen gas for 12-20 sec with maintaining the vacuum level of 10.sup.-4 Torr to form a boron nitride layer of 2 .mu.m. Titanium is then deposited in a vacuum atmosphere of 5.times.10.sup.-5 Torr at 2400.degree.-2600.degree. C. for 25-35 sec to form a titanium layer of 1-2 .mu.m on the boron nitride layer. The boron nitride layer having low thermal expansion coefficient prevents deformation by doming and the titanium layer having the good conductivity enables the anode voltage to be applied to the shadow mask.

Thus, art asymmetrical electron lens is formed by a potential difference generated between the grid wire and the damp wire, so that an electron beam having passed through a spacing between the grid wires is deflected in a converging direction. The annulus is attached to the front panel before receiving the shadow mask becomes a part of the CRT envelope. In a preferred embodiment, the annulus is composed of ceramic and is x-ray shielded by an application of lead-based frit.

Abstract: An improved color picture tube includes a shadow mask which has a rectangular periphery with two long sides and two short sides. The mask has a major axis, which passes through the center of the mask and parallels the long sides, and a minor axis, which passes through the center of the mask and parallels the short sides. The mask includes slit-shaped apertures aligned in columns that essentially parallel the minor axis. Adjacent apertures in each column are separated by tie bars in the mask. The widths of the tie bars are graded in dimension. The grading is at least partially related to the amount of tie bar stretch occurring in a similar size mask having different tie bar widths.

Abstract: A shielded CRT (18) display includes a secondary shielding enclosure (14) for enclosing the CRT (18) and for inhibiting electromagnetic emissions therefrom. A primary shielded enclosure (12) internal to the secondary shielding enclosure (14) has a portion coaxial (16) with the neck portion (22) of the CRT (18) for also inhibiting electromagnetic emissions from the CRT (18). The CRT (18) includes an internal conductive layer comprised of an internal aquadag, wire mask, and phosphor coating. This internal conductive layer is grounded via a reactive path to ground to suppress electromagnetic emissions. This double shielding suppression technique eliminates the need for external shielding of the face portion of the CRT (18).
