Patent number: 5214348Abstract: The applications of the CRT proposed by the present invention include televisions and computer terminals, and the object of the present invention is to increase electrical security of the CRT. The CRT has a metal part 8 forming a vacuum glass container in order to reduce the weight of the CRT. A stud pin 12 made of an insulating material is on the inner surface of the metal part and fixes the shadow mask. The metal part 8 is joined between an edge of the panel screen 2a and an edge of the funnel 4, and forms a part of the vacuum container where the highest stress is applied. The stud pin 12 is fixed to the inner surface of the metal part 8 and fixes the shadow mask 10 by sealing to a plate spring 13 welded to the edge of the shadow mask 10. Since the stud pin 12 is insulating, it electrically separates the metal part 8 from the high voltage shadow mask 10. The stud pin 12 has a constriction or a multistage fin, and around the stud pin shielding material 16 made of a metal mesh or a metal plate is placed.Type: GrantFiled: November 7, 1991Date of Patent: May 25, 1993Assignee: Mitsubishi Denki Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Koji Nakamura, Keitaro Tsukui, Junko Itoh

Patent number: 4467241Abstract: A glass funnel for a cathode ray tube is formed by centrifically casting it in a rotating mold. Integrally formed lugs are formed on the interior wall of the funnel. The lugs vary in geometry and are utilized to position and attach a magnetic shield to the funnel. The funnel and its attached magnetic shield forms a subassembly that is independent of the remainder of the cathode ray tube components.A method is set forth for fabricating the funnel and the attached lugs by centrifugally spinning molten glass within a mold.Type: GrantFiled: January 20, 1982Date of Patent: August 21, 1984Assignee: Owens-Illinois, Inc.Inventor: William A. Patent number: 4460843Abstract: An improved color picture tube according to the invention includes an evacuated envelope enclosing a mask attached to a frame, which is suspended in relation to a cathodoluminescent screen by novel support means. The tube also includes an electron gun for forming a plurality of electron beams and directing the beams through the mask to the screen. The novel support means includes a plurality of springs each having an aperture engaged with a stud which is embedded in the envelope. Each of the springs is attached to the frame and has a resilient portion between the aperture and each location of attachment. The resilient portion is inclined relative to the longitudinal axis of the tube, and a plane containing a major surface of the resilient portion approximately parallels one of the perpendicular screen axes.Type: GrantFiled: April 29, 1982Date of Patent: July 17, 1984Assignee: RCA CorporationInventor: Frank R. Patent number: 4387321Abstract: A color selection electrode (7) is suspended from the corners of the upright edge (3) of a display window (2) by means of resilient elements (25) which extend substantially perpendicularly to the electron beams deflected towards the corners. The resilient elements (25) have apertures (28) with which the resilient elements (25) are placed on mandrils (31). The mandrils (31) are embedded in the corners of the upright edge (3) of the display window (2) perpendicularly to the planes of the resilient elements (25). A screening cap for screening the electron beams from the earth's magnetic field is connected on the mandrils (31) in such manner that the screening cap exerts no pressure on the resilient elements (25).Type: GrantFiled: October 20, 1980Date of Patent: June 7, 1983Assignee: U.S. Philips CorporationInventors: Johannes H. Patent number: 4358702Abstract: A color selection electrode (7) is suspended in the corners of the upright edge (3) of the display window (2) by means of strip-shaped resilient elements (25) which extend substantially perpendicularly to the electron beams deflected towards the respective corner of the display window. The resilient elements (25), at their ends remote from the color selection electrode (7), comprise a peg (27) the axis of which extends substantially parallel to the direction of the electron beams directed towards the respective corner. In the corner of the upright edge (3) of the display window (2) a supporting element (30) is connected which comprises a portion (32) which is provided with an aperture (33), which portion (32) extends substantially perpendicularly to the axis of the peg (27). The pegs (27) fall partly through the apertures (33).Type: GrantFiled: October 20, 1980Date of Patent: November 9, 1982Assignee: U.S. Philips CorporationInventors: Johannes H. N. Gijrath, Albertus A. Patent number: 4355260Abstract: Apparatus is disclosed for assembling a frameless, relatively thin and torsionally flexible shadow mask and four relatively thick and inflexible mask-suspension brackets. The apparatus, which is for use in the manufacture of color television cathode ray picture tubes, provides for conforming of the brackets to the contour of the skirt of the mask, and the welding of the brackets thereto. The brackets according to the invention have a planar central section and two arms for the embracing of and attachment to the skirt around the corners of the mask. Each bracket has at least one region in each arm adjacent to the central section that is perforated to decrease the cross-sectional area of the region and thus increase electrical resistance of the region.Type: GrantFiled: July 14, 1980Date of Patent: October 19, 1982Assignee: Zenith Radio CorporationInventor: Lawrence W. Patent number: 4335329Abstract: A mask support including a multiplicity of retainers is disclosed which supports a shadow mask assembly consisting of a shadow mask disposed in front of a fluorescent screen formed on the internal panel surface of a color picture tube and of a frame to hold the shadow mask. Each of the retainers comprises a spring member secured to the side wall of the frame and a rigid support member for supporting most weight of the shadow mask assembly, which rigid support member is attached to the spring member and engages a fixed member fixed on an internal surface of the picture tube. The spring member provides an action which causes the support member to be displaced towards the internal surface of the color picture tube so that the support member and the fixed member are firmly engaged.Type: GrantFiled: May 8, 1980Date of Patent: June 15, 1982Assignee: Hitachi, Ltd.Inventors: Kenichi Fukuzawa, Tetsuo Kumazawa

Patent number: 4317064Abstract: A color cathode ray tube is depicted which has a faceplate and a shadow mask mounted in precise relationship to the faceplate by a plurality of suspension devices spaced on the periphery of the faceplate. The suspension devices provide for rigidly and stably suspending the mask. Each suspension device comprises a stud extending from the faceplate and a leaf spring formed to support and space the mask in proper relationship to the faceplate with the spring having a first end formed for detachable engagement to the stud. A bracket or frame attached to the mask has a seat for receiving in permanent attachment the second end of the spring. The suspension device is characterized by the spring and bracket or frame having configurations at their interface which are such that the lateral edges of the spring are compressively preloaded against the bracket or frame to provide a wide stance, which enhances the stability of the suspension of said mask in relation to said faceplate.Type: GrantFiled: October 15, 1979Date of Patent: February 23, 1982Assignee: Zenith Radio CorporationInventor: Lawrence W.
