  • Patent number: 6704056
Abstract: A video signal conversion part of a horizontal deflection circuit deletes a prescribed number of horizontal scanning lines from a vertical blanking interval of an input video signal and assigns a time corresponding to the deleted horizontal scanning lines to horizontal blanking intervals of the remaining horizontal scanning lines thereby extending the horizontal blanking interval of each horizontal scanning line and outputting a video signal. A synchronizing signal separation circuit extracts a horizontal synchronizing signal and a vertical synchronizing signal from the video signal output from the video signal conversion part. An output part of the horizontal deflection circuit supplies a sawtooth horizontal deflection current to a horizontal deflection yoke in synchronization with the horizontal synchronizing signal output from the synchronizing signal separation circuit.

  • Patent number: 6580233
Abstract: Disclosed is a cathode ray tube and a intensity controlling method achieving a reduced amount of factors for correcting intensity prepared and capable of performing proper intensity control so that the joint portion of split picture planes is inconspicuous from a viewpoint of intensity. With respect to the direction of overlapping a plurality of split picture planes, only correction factors at representative signal levels are pre-stored as a basic factor table. Any of the factors at the other signal levels is obtained by performing an interpolating operation using the basic factors in the basic factor table. The value of the signal level of a video signal referred to when the correction factor in the overlapping direction is obtained is changed by using a shift factor associated with the pixel position in the direction orthogonal to the overlapping direction. The basic factor is thereby changed according to the pixel position in the orthogonal direction.

  • Patent number: 6512339
Abstract: In a CRT display device including a CRT (MM tube) having brightness higher than that in the background-art CRT, it is an object of the present invention to improve contrast and prevent conspicuous recognition of noises. A video signal modulation circuit (10) modulates a video signal (9) (first video signal) into a second video signal having a signal level in an area of low gradation level lower than a signal level of the first video signal. A cathode bias voltage source (7) generates a driving voltage on the basis of the second video signal. It is therefore possible to keep the driving voltage in the area of low gradation level low and reduce brightness in the area of low gradation level of a CRT (1). As a result, noises of an image in the area of low gradation level are not conspicuously recognized and a contrast value is increased, resulting in improvement in image quality.

  • Patent number: 6483262
Abstract: An apparatus and method for ring spline convergence correction for accurately affecting convergence at the outermost portion of a screen using ring spline interpolation are provided. Convergence correction data between seed data is output through an operation using a spline interpolation polynomial in the form of a ring which is continuous with an adjacent line, thereby accurately calculating convergence correction data at the outermost point of a screen to minimize the error in convergence.

  • Patent number: 6404146
Abstract: A method and system for providing two-dimensional convergence correction for a color cathode ray tube (CRT) is disclosed. The CRT displays an input video signal comprising a stream of video scan lines which include red, green and blue color signals that are to be displayed on corresponding scan lines and subpixel locations of a display screen. The method and system include storing a plurality of scan lines from the video signal into a buffer. For a particular red, green and blue color signal, horizontal and vertical distortion of the red and blue subpixels in relation to a position of the green subpixel on the display screen are measured. Then, at least one math function is generated that mathematically represents the distortions. Finally, the math functions are applied to control circuitry to control timing of red and blue subpixels read from the frame buffer so that output of the red and blue subpixels are coincident with output of the green subpixel on the display screen.

  • Patent number: 6292235
Abstract: A switchable digital filter interpolates distortion correction values. The distortion correction values together with interpolated distortion correction values are supplied as an output. Proper operation of the digital filter is disturbed by transient signals occurring during horizontal retrace. The digital output is converted to an analog convergence correction signal. The digital to analog converter has an operating frequency and generates a transient signal during horizontal retrace as the operating frequency increases due to an increased horizontal scanning rate. A low pass filter receives the analog convergence correction signal and generates an analog deflection signal. An auxiliary deflection coil is driven by the analog deflection signal. The digital filter is switched off during the horizontal retrace. The digital filter is thus protected from disturbance by the transient signal and the digital to analog converter is protected from exceeding a maximum operating frequency.
