    Abstract: Tube amplifier assembly including a power tube that is configured to be coupled to a grounding deck and positioned within an opening of the grounding deck. The tube amplifier assembly also includes a tube adapter that is configured to be coupled to the grounding deck. The tube adapter has a capacitive plate that extends parallel to the grounding deck and an adapter wall that is coupled to the capacitive plate. The tube adapter has an adapter opening that is aligned with the deck opening to form a tube passage. The tube adapter includes flexible conductive elements that are electrically coupled to the capacitive plate and surround the tube passage. The flexible conductive elements engage the power tube in the tube passage and electrically couple the power tube to the capacitive plate. The grounding deck and the capacitive plate form a capacitor assembly.

    Abstract: An electron tube includes: a microwave structure having an evacuated envelope including two ends, the microwave structure being at a reference potential, an electron gun including a cathode for providing a beam of electrons, along an axis, at one end of the evacuated envelope, an electron collector for gathering electrons of the beam at the other end of the evacuated envelope, and at least one high-voltage power supply for applying to the cathode a negative high-voltage potential with respect to the reference potential. The tube includes between the cathode and the microwave structure a device for extracting the positive ions including at least one electrode carried to a negative potential with respect to the reference potential so as to extract positive ions from the evacuated envelope, these positive ions being produced by the impacting of the electrons of the electron beam with molecules of residual gas in the evacuated envelope. The invention has application to microwave electron tubes, klystron TWT etc.

    Abstract: An apparatus and method of modulating an electron beam to induce a high degree of spatial bunching uses multiple control grids located in close proximity to an electron-emitting cathode. An RF field couples to the electron beam in the cathode-grid gap to induce velocity modulation. The electron beam then propagates through a first control grid, allowing the velocity modulation to induce spatial bunching. The electron beam then traverses a gap between the first grid and a second control grid and interacts with the RF field to induce further bunching of the beam. Simulations show that bunching factors of 50:1 may be achieved.

    Abstract: A standard 4-pole electric motor stator with capacitive plates in-line with the magnetic poles, but electrically 90° out of phase, produces two Lorentz force geometries 90° out of phase with each other (i.e., vertical, horizontal). An alternating source electrically rotates this pair of Lorentz geometries producing a propagating electromagnetic wave at the source frequency within the vacant internal cavity. Any charged particle within the cavity and along its axis will be accelerated or decelerated from an initial velocity via the Lorentz force. The rotating geometry provides for the coupling of the Lorentz force through a current loop and diamagnetism, providing acceleration and deceleration of non-charged particles. The force coupling is dependent upon the material's electromagnetic properties, the frequencies generated by the capacitive stator, and the velocity of the particles within the capacitive stator's influence.

In order to attenuate the spurious radiation from the tube, the radial waveguide (Wg) includes at least one quarter-wave microwave trap having, at least at the operating frequency F of the tube, an open circuit for the microwave propagating in said radial waveguide for propagating spurious radiation.

    Abstract: The present invention provides a multi-beam klystron apparatus. In the above-described multi-beam klystron apparatus, the magnetic field generating element of the electron-gun-unit-side magnetic field generating unit is disposed around the electron gun unit, and a plurality of magnetic gaps are provided in the inner peripheral surface of the magnetic pole, which covers the magnetic field generating element, in the direction of travel of the electron beams. Therefore, lines of magnetic force, which are parallel to the center axis of the radio-frequency interaction unit, can be generated. Thus, even the electron beam, which is generated from the location apart from the center axis of the electron gun unit, can be guided to the radio-frequency interaction unit in the same manner as in the location at the canter axis of the electron gun unit.

Better envelope control, focusing, and higher efficiency is observed in linacs according to the present invention.

    Abstract: For use in a beam index color cathode ray tube (CRT), a multi-beam group electron gun directs first and second groups of vertically aligned electron beams on respective parallel, horizontally aligned color phosphor stripes on the CRT's display screen. Each group of electron beams includes three beams, one for each of the three primary colors of red, green and blue. The first and second electron beam groups are horizontally offset from one another, with the upper, intermediate and lower electron beams in each group tracing the same horizontal phosphor stripe as the beams scan the display screen and with a time delay provided to synchronize the video information of both electron beam groups. A color video signal is provided either to a respective cathode or to a respective segmented conductive portion containing a beam passing aperture in the electron gun's G1 control grid for individually modulating each beam with color video image information.
