Abstract: A high-pressure sodium vapor discharge lamp which is provided with a discharge tube and an outer envelope which envelopes this tube.In accordance with the improvement there are disposed in the space between the discharge tube and the outer envelope both a capacitor and a glow discharge starter which are both in parallel with the discharge tube. Consequently an external lamp starter is superfluous. In addition the lamp base may be relatively small.

Abstract: A compact integral permanently assembled lamp unit comprising a fluorescent lamp, resistor ballast, starter means, and end connectors for connecting a plurality of lamps together.
Abstract: A spark plug wherein corona discharge is employed to create a long arc and to determine, in part, the path of the arc, electrodes of the spark plug being shaped, oriented and positioned to create an arc of desired length, orientation and at a desired location as well as to effect electromagnetic interaction between electric current in the arc and the current in at least one of the electrodes to provide a force on the arc which acts in consort with the electrode shapes, positions and orientations to control its spatial behavior, the electrode configuration being further selected so that ionized species in the flame of ignited fuel are subjected to a high electric field over a substantial volume.
Abstract: A spark plug cap for use on a spark plug of an internal combustion engine to much intensify sparking across the gap between central and ground electrodes of the spark plug. The spark plug cap includes an insulating body having a connector provided at its one end for mechanically connecting the cap to the spark plug. An electrical conductor extends through the insulating body for supplying high-tension ignition current to the central electrode of the spark plug. At least one capacitor unit is supported within the insulating body and electrically connected across the gap between the spark plug electrodes.
Abstract: An integral self-contained fluorescent lamp unit comprising an elongated lamp and an elongated ballast resistor adjacent to and alongside the lamp. Metal strip heat radiators are positioned adjacent to and alongside the ballast resistor for dissipating its heat when operating.
