Abstract: A system and method for producing proportionately accurate likenesses in an artwork is presented. The system uses a grid or other distance markers on a transparent surface of a card. By observing a measurement of a feature of a subject with the distance markers and transcribing the measurement of the feature on the artwork an accurate likeness of the subject may be made.
Abstract: A viewfinder for aiding an artist in the creation of a work of art is provided. The viewfinder includes a frame that carries a first door. The first door is configured for moving with respect to the frame. A second door is provided and is also carried by the frame. The second door is configured for being moved with respect to the frame. At least one of the first door, second door and frame define a subject area for use in the creation of a work of art. Other exemplary embodiments exist that include a light filter, reducing lens and/or a grid.
Abstract: A linear proportioner including a logarithmic mechanism to be used for transferring linear dimensions from an existing drawing, picture or actual scene to a new drawing or artist medium. An elongated assembly provides two indicators (one fixed and one variable) as reference pointers, two indicators (one fixed and one variable) for object pointers and an adjustment knob which, when rotated, moves the variable indicators synchronously and proportionally. By depressing the knob when transferring the first object dimension, the proportion ratio (transparent to the operator) is automatically set for subsequent dimension transfers.
Abstract: The present invention is a method and system for recording a point in space, which is to be used as the viewing point of from which the eye of an artist will view a copy easel and the subject to be copied. This viewing point is recorded so as to allow the artist to move the eye from this viewing point and return the eye to the same specific viewing point in order to continue drawing. This is accomplished by placing a portion of a figure, into which a pair of reference points has been incorporated, on the drawing surface of the easel. A second complimentary portion of the figure, into which a second pair of reference points has been incorporated, is placed behind the drawing surface of the easel. The second portion of the figure is positioned so as, when seen from the viewing point, to appear to complete the figure and align the two pairs of reference points.
Abstract: A tracing an object has front and rear shells that are pivoted to each other to form a case. The rear shell defines a platform for supporting an object and the front defines a clear window pane forming a tracing plane through which the object is visible. A leg connected between the shells supports the front shell at an open position. A support movably mounted to the front shell carries a view port to view the object through the window pane and to trace an image of the object on the tracing plane.
Abstract: A drawing device used to create a perspective drawing of a three-dimensional object; containing the means to “fix” in a specific relationship, an object to be drawn, a window pane to be drawn upon, and a view port through which to view the object and window pane; whereby a user “traces” onto the window pane with a drawing instrument, the edges and boundaries of the object he views through the view port and window pane, creating an image or “impression” of the object on the window pane.
Abstract: A drafting template for preparing axonometric drawings or sketches comprising a unitary, clear, substantially planar, chevron-shaped body having an apex and an antapex, an upper face, a lower face, and at least six side edges. Various embodiments of the template provide for preparing trimetric, dimetric and isometric drawings or sketches. The template is provided with indicia on an upper or lower face thereof for measuring and scaling the drawing.
