  • Patent number: 5943974
Abstract: A gathering gauge for assisting in the fabrication of a gather in a sewn article of manufacture. The gathering gauge is used to evenly distribute a given length of a fabric over a selected gather length, thereby eliminating guess work normally associated with such task. The gathering gauge is an elongated member defining a first slit for receiving and holding one end of a thread used to gather the fabric. A plurality of second slits is provided for receiving and holding a further portion of the thread. The second slits are disposed along the length of the gathering gauge at pre-selected distances from the first slit. A measuring guide is provided for determining the distance between the first slit and each individual second slit. Thus, depending upon the length of the fabric to be gathered, and either the length of the gather or the amount of gather desired, a particular second slit is selected.

  • Patent number: 5926966
Abstract: A set of two templates for use in cutting patches, each patch having first and second straight sides that in general are not parallel, whereby the patches can be arranged in a sequence with the first straight side of each patch except the first patch collinear with the second straight side of the previous patch, and with the second straight side of each patch except the last patch collinear with the first straight side of the next patch. The shape of the first template is the shape of the sequence of patches. The second template includes a sheet of a transparent material having a straight edge and bearing markings showing the successive patches in the sequence arranged along the straight edge and oriented so that the second straight side of each patch, except the last patch, is collinear with the straight edge.

  • Patent number: 5920998
Abstract: A new tape measure system and a new combination collar-and-tape measuring tool, actually worn by the user, is described. The collar-and-tape measuring tool allows for adjustments to the fitting that befits individual preferences and natural fit selection. The collar-and-tape measuring tool has a front portion of a fake collar (i.e., a half portion of a regular collar). To this front portion is attached a tape measure. Ground zero of the tape begins at the edge portion of the fake half collar, where the measurement point of the loose tape end is attached. The tape has graduated measurement markings disposed on the outside, as is standard with ordinary tape measures. On the inside of the tape is disposed a lining of Velcro.RTM. material, or another type of attaching material forming an adhesive surface. The loose end of the tape is drawn around the neck, meeting the ground zero edge of the half collar. The collar-and-tape tool is then secured by a mating adhesive surface (e.g.

  • Patent number: 5722174
Abstract: A fabric covered cushioned board includes a collar pattern on the one side. The opposite side includes a plurality of special design patterns. A set of Bishop-collar patterns are formed on the one side. The neck patterns are formed with the front neck section having a slightly flat shape and connected by side sections, which may be round, to a back section. The back section includes a central opening and is formed by tangential essentially straight lines extending from the side sections. A plurality of parallel special collar patterns are provided for different sizes. Angled lines are identified to indicate the front, center and back as well as various other locating seams. A cartesian grid pattern is on both sides. The patterns on the opposite side each includes a plurality of different sizes in a set selection of a desired size. The designs include a heart-shape, a diamond-shape, a tear drop shape, a loop shape and a scallop shape.

  • Patent number: 5708988
Abstract: A football helmet sizing card is described which permits convenient, rapid and efficient sizing and adjustment of football helmets on a football player's head. The card includes indicia which may be used to quickly and efficiently measure spacing of the football helmet from the player's eyebrows to the front rim of the helmet. The card is also sized in width so as to correspond to the manufacturer's recommended spacing distance from the nose to the face mask of the helmet. In this way, the card can be used quickly and efficiently over the course of the season to test for helmet sizing and adjustment, and this is particularly useful with helmets which have adjustable air bladder inflation systems so that appropriate inflation of the bladders can be made during the course of the season as atmospheric conditions warrant.

  • Patent number: 4974331
Abstract: A girth measuring device for making simultaneous multiple measurements of the girth of an elongate portion of a body along its length has a generally rectangular base member adapted to be placed along the elongate portion of the body being measured and has index marks along one longitudinal side. A series of longitudinally spaced spring wound flexible measuring tapes on the base member extend and retract relative to the base member. A drawbar at the outer ends of the measuring tapes allow them to be simultaneously extended from their retracted position and placed in encircling relation about the body portion being measured. The drawbar is removably engaged on the base member to position the calibrations of the measuring tapes over the index marks. The girth measuring device allows measurements to be taken of each tape to determine the girth of the body portion being measured at longitudinally spaced locations along its length.

  • Patent number: 4750268
Abstract: A tape measure device by which a salesperson can obtain a direct outseam measurement to be used by a tailor in shortening the legs of pants or slacks without having to take an inseam measurement. The device has a rigid tab at one end on which a standing customer being measured places her or his shoe heel. The salesperson then extends the tape to the customers waistband and reads the outseam measurement at that point which can be used to shorten the legs of the garment with the hems of the legs being at the desired predetermined height. By providing another rigid tab on the opposite end and placing additional indicia on the opposite side of the tape the utility of the device can be expanded to making other body measurements.

  • Patent number: 4219029
Abstract: A device for measuring the volume of a female breast. In one embodiment, a circular template or sheet of transparent, flexible material is capable of being formed into a hollow cone whose size can be adjusted. Calibrations are provided selectively for indicating a series of breast volume measurements directly. In use, the sheet is formed into a cone around the breast and adjusted in position to conform to the compressed configuration of the breast. The volume of the breast contained in the cone is then read directly from the calibrations on the sheet. In another embodiment, a rectangular template or sheet of transparent flexible material is capable of being formed into a hollow cylinder which can be adjusted in diameter selectively. Calibrations are provided on the sheet for indicating the inside volume of the cylinder at different locations along its length for different inside diameters of the cylinder. A plunger or disk is provided which is sized to move inside the cylinder.
