The detachable lining can be directly replaced, thereby avoiding abrasion to the ruler, and prolonging service life of the ruler.

    Abstract: An adjustable combination square includes a longitudinally extending blade slidably received within a slot in a head. A movable clamping member is engaged with the blade, and a biasing member acts on the clamping member to normally bias the clamping member toward an engaged position in which the blade is engaged against a surface of the slot. A manually operable pivotable actuator arrangement is carried by the head. Actuation of the pivotable actuator arrangement applies a force to the clamping member that works against the biasing member so as to selectively move the clamping member away from the engaged position to enable the blade to be moved axially relative to the head. Releasing the pivotable actuator arrangement releases the force so that the biasing member returns the clamping member to the engaged position to maintain the blade in position relative to the head.

    Abstract: An angle indicating apparatus includes a rod member, an indicia member, an indicator, a spring-loaded tumbler unit, and a locking unit. The indicia member is mounted pivotally on the rod member about a pivot axis, and includes a base plate formed with a generally semi-circular cutout. The indicator is disposed in the cutout and points to angle indicia that are provided on the base plate adjacent to the cutout. The base plate is further formed with a curved guide slot, and has a bottom side formed with a plurality of angularly spaced apart positioning grooves. The spring-loaded tumbler unit is mounted on the rod member and engages removably a selected one of the positioning grooves. The locking unit passes through the guide slot and is operable so as to engage the rod member and arrest undesired rotation of the indicia member relative to the rod member.

    Abstract: A Multifunction Layout Tool capable of performing the functions of an adjustable square, adjustable T-square, try square, combination square, protractor, angle duplicator, depth gauge, rip gauge, rafter-stair layout tool, and compass is disclosed. The tool comprises a generally T-shaped squaring base, mounting an elongated sliding rule. The base is comprised of a body defining a central flared channel to receive the rule and a pair of squaring arms extending from the body, defining a squaring edge along an end of the base, perpendicular to the channel. The rule is disposed in and extends out of the channel, between the squaring arms. The rule is a blade having a rounded end, a square end, and a central longitudinal slot. A fastener anchored to the base, extending through the rule slot, maintains the rule within the channel. Protractor indicia disposed within the channel and corresponding vernier indicia on the rounded end of the rule measure disposition angles of the rule when the rule is fully extended.

    Abstract: A very accurate, multiple position, miter device or gauge for use with a table saw or the like includes a protractor having a plurality of equally spaced precision drilled step-holes, a sine bar, a micrometer adjust, and a guide bar adapted to fit within a guide groove or miter slot. In accordance with a particular example, the device includes a protractor having thirteen equally spaced, angled step-holes precisely spaced at 15.degree. from one another. The micrometer adjust includes a thimble screw having 1/6020 (one minute) increments with one full revolution of the thimble screw adjusting the angle of the sine bar by 1/40 (15 minutes). Also, the guide bar includes 0.degree., 3 3/4.degree. and 7 1/2.degree. offset threaded openings for receiving an angle hole lock shoulder bolt which passes through the protractor and into the guide bar. Hence, the miter device can be set at selected precise 15.degree., 7 1/2.degree. and 3 3/4.degree. increments using the angle step-holes, the 0.degree., 3 3/4.degree.

The reference member portion is slidably coupled to the support member for establishing a reference position for the device with respect to a tile and second tile. Removal of this undesired portion from the second tile permits the second tile to fit properly adjacent an obstruction after the undesired portion is removed.

A plurality of set screws are provided in the threaded bores and are adjustable to project out of the rigid member or to span the slot and contact the opposing side wall portions of the member so that overall width of the rigid member of the miter gauge can be adjusted to fit the width of a guiding slot on a piece of power equipment.

    Abstract: There is disclosed a framing T-Square and protractor wherein the head of the T-Square and the elongated rule thereof are connected by means of a ballbearing allowing the rule portion to be free-swinging with respect to the head, which is in the form of a rectangular plate having a protractor scale thereon marked in degrees and auxiliary scales marked with inches of rise per 12 inches of run for common rafters and for hip and valley rafters. A rectangular panel is hingedly attached to the plate on a hinged line normally at right angles to the elongated rule; a friction locking mechanism permits the rule to be locked at any desired angle relative to the plate and panel. The rule, plate, and panel are marked on the back with rafter tables and other data including run lengths and protractor angle settings useful in roof framing and other construction or carpentry work. A vernier scale on the front of the panel facilitates setting of angle measurements to an accuracy of one-tenth of a degree.

    Abstract: An improved carpenter's square and protractor which can accurately duplicate a desired angle onto a surface to be cut. Accurate duplication of the desired angle is accomplished by a unique securing of the T-head on a bladed ruler wherein a securing by the draw bolt adjustment is accomplished in a transverse manner with respect to the plane of rotation of the T-head and the ruler member. In order to provide for center location of the draw bolt adjustment, a slide member which receives the ruler member is positioned in an offset manner with angular arm members. The T-head is multifunctional in that it not only provides a simplified protractor function with respect to the ruler but it also affords a supporting wall member onto which projections can be placed so that this device can be utilized to locate the centers of large circular objects. In addition, the T-head can so accommodate a level vial as well as a plumb vial.

    Abstract: An improved miter gauge having means for establishing the angle of a workpiece relative to a tool such as a table saw, with increased resolution and accuracy. The miter gauge includes a guide bar adapted to slidingly engage a groove in the tool. A reference frame having a flat surface against which the workpiece is held, is pivotally mounted on the guide bar. A rotatably mounted angle index dial, graduated to show the miter angle at which the gauge is set, is turned by two intermeshed gears as the reference frame is pivoted about its mount on the guide bar. The intermeshed gears are operative to rotate the angle index dial through a greater angle than the miter angle by a six-to-one ratio to increase the resolution with which the miter angle is set. For example, a 15.degree. change in the miter angle results in a 90.degree. rotation of the angle index dial. Two embodiments show alternative ways to attach one of the gears and angle index dial to the guide bar and reference frame.

    Abstract: An adjustable straight edged device for use with a drafting board includes a straight edged blade which is adjustable to different angular orientations on the drafting board and is positively and precisely aligned in a horizontal orientation across the board. The device includes a platform slidably mounted for movement along one side of the drafting board on which the blade is mounted. The platform includes a pivot pin and preferably guide pins which are disposed to respectively, engage an elongated slot and pins about an end angle provided on the straight edged blade to slidably and pivotally attach the blade to the platform. In an alternative embodiment a single guide pin is used which engages a notch in the straight edged blade. This arrangement allows the straight edged blade to be repeatedly and accurately aligned in its horizontal orientation. A clamping knob is provided on the pivot pin for locking the blade in place on the platform.
