  • Patent number: 8438744
Abstract: A ruler includes a base which has a plurality of one-inch wide measurement stations which include numerical indicia. The numerical indicia can be selectively exposed or covered by an associated pivoting flap. When a measurement is made, the appropriate flap is opened so the numerical indicia can be utilized in making a measurement. The numerical indicia can include both fractional numbers and decimal numbers.

  • Patent number: 7415772
Abstract: A set of rulers for teaching the concept of measurements includes a first ruler having a first group of incremental division lines corresponding to a first group of measured lengths, each line of the first group having a first length and a first color. A second ruler in the set adds a second group of incremental division lines corresponding to a second group of measured lengths, each line of the second group having a second length and a second color, the second group of lines extending from an distal end portion of the first group where the second group of measured lengths corresponds to the first group. A third ruler of the set adds a third group of incremental lines corresponding to a third group of measured lengths, each line of the third group having a third length and color and, where the third group of measured lengths corresponds to the first and second groups, extends from the distal ends of the second group of lines. A method of using the set of rulers to teach is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 6816805
Abstract: The present invention relates to a process and method for printing, utilizing a computer and computer printer, a scale instrument and conversion tool to be used in preparing and interpreting scaled drawings, maps, aerial photographs, graphs and similar documents. The instrument can be printed on paper, plastic film, or any flexible media capable of being processed by a computer printer. The invention includes a sub-process to not only print a scale denominated in the various scales typically used in preparing scaled drawings, etc., but also to print a scale denominated in any other scale to be used in interpreting a drawing, etc., which is not longer presented in the original scale due to reproduction, shrinkage, enlargement, or reduction.

  • Patent number: 6813841
Abstract: The present invention provides a measuring device for teaching incremental measurements to a user of the measuring device. The measuring device comprises a fastener and a plurality of rulers containing graduated markings and rotatably attached to the fastener. Each ruler is positioned to horizontally align and vertically juxtaposed the graduated markings of consecutive rulers. In a preferred embodiment, the sets of graduated markings vary in numerical increment from other sets of graduated markings. Also each ruler varies in color from the other rulers of the measuring device.

  • Patent number: 6243959
Abstract: A measuring and instructional device containing a base panel having a top surface and perimeter bounded by at least one edge, with the top surface having evenly spaced apart linear rulings perpendicularly disposed to the edge and defining a non-linear standard unit of measure; and a top transparent sheet having a top surface and a perimeter bounded by at least one edge, wherein the top transparent sheet top surface has evenly spaced apart linear rulings perpendicularly disposed to the long edge of the top transparent sheet and defining fractional increments of the non-linear standard unit of measure; wherein the transparent sheet is positionable over the base panel so that the fractional increments of the unit of measure may be aligned with the units of measure to demonstrate the relationship between the unit of measure and the fractional increments thereof.

  • Patent number: 5881469
Abstract: A measuring and instructional ruler device is provided for use by children and persons during the instruction of linear measurement, and for use in the measuring and drawing of objects. The device is comprised of a base panel having a top surface having standard units of measure delineated thereon, and at least one transparent sheet having fractional increments of the same standard unit of measure delineated thereon, wherein the transparent sheet is positionable over the base panel so that the delineated fractional increments of the standard unit of measure may be aligned with the delineated standard units of measure to demonstrate the relationship between the unit of measure and the fractional increments thereof.

  • Patent number: 5822875
Abstract: A set of ruled devices and method for measuring an actual dimension of a specimen displayed as a magnified image by a magnification system such as a scanning electron microscope having a plurality of selected magnification factors. The magnified image includes dimensions that correspond to a predetermined selected magnification. A set of ruled devices is provided, whereby each ruled device includes indicia that corresponds to one of the magnification factors. A ruled device that corresponds to the predetermined selected magnification is selected. The dimension of the image is measured with the selected ruled device, whereby the indicia of the selected ruled device indicates the actual dimension of the specimen.

  • Patent number: 4839833
Abstract: A programmable display engineering scale instrument includes a scale base such as a drafting machine type scale, an electronic display device including a plurality of rows of column aligned display elements, scale selection switches, and circuitry interpreting the operation of the selection switches to cause the display of corresponding linear scales. The circuitry includes a switch encoder which generates unique binary addresses corresponding to each of the switches. A memory device stores bit patterns which when addressed cause the activation of patterns of display elements to display a corresponding linear scale. The display elements are interconnected in selected groups for simultaneous activation to simplify the circuitry of the programmable scale instrument.

  • Patent number: 4707928
Abstract: This invention relates to a graduated engineer/architect rule having variably selectable scales for measuring distances and establishing linear proportionalities for representation on a technical drawing. The rule comprises an enclosed, continuous fabric sheet bearing a plurality of divided scales of both the engineer and architect type. The sheet is mounted on and carried by idler rollers, guide platens, and a full length drive platen. A specific scale may be selected by rotating a scale adjustment knob to rotate the drive platen and advance the sheet adjacent to a full length viewing window.
