Patent number: 6298574Abstract: A top reading bituminous paving depth gauge is used to determine the thickness of paving layers. The gauge comprises a depressible rod operatively associated when a rod support system comprising an upper portion having a graduated measuring gauge fixed on the rod support system and a bottom support devise fixed to the lower end of the rod support system. The bottom or the support device acts as a foot for the measuring gauge and also acts to receive the lower portion of the depressible rod. The top reading bituminous paving depth gauge operates without any washers on the measuring depressible rod to prevent false measurements due to the presence of large aggregates.Type: GrantFiled: April 13, 1998Date of Patent: October 9, 2001Assignee: APAC Inc.Inventor: Richard L. Patent number: 6125944Abstract: A telescoping field marker which is retractable into a compact storage position. The inventive device includes a bracket structure attachable to an implement frame, an inner arm having a lumen pivotally attached to the bracket structure, a hydraulic cylinder attached between said bracket structure and said inner arm, a hydraulic motor within the inner arm adjacent the bracket structure, an outer arm slidably positioned within the lumen of the inner arm, and a threaded shaft connected to the hydraulic motor and threadably connected to a proximal end of the outer arm for extending and retracting the outer arm with respect to the inner arm. A marking disc is attached to a distal end of the outer arm for marking a ground surface. The outer arm is free to move upwardly and downwardly when fully extended thereby compensating for uneven terrain. The hydraulic cylinder and the hydraulic motor are preferably fluidly connected in series so as to operate simultaneously.Type: GrantFiled: December 29, 1997Date of Patent: October 3, 2000Inventor: John Redekop

Patent number: 6079114Abstract: A field marker is mounted on the rear corner of the seeder or cultivator frame so that its weight is supported by the packer wheels or support wheel axles at the rear of the frame, thus minimizing the imbalance and uneven seeding that will occur with marker mounted on the front corner. The marker arm is slidably extensible to avoid complex knee-action joints and the mechanisms required to operate them.Type: GrantFiled: December 15, 1997Date of Patent: June 27, 2000Assignee: Triple Star Manufacturing, Ltd.Inventor: Bernie Toews

Patent number: 5878505Abstract: The device comprises a pipe (1), in which a shaft (20) of a marking component (2) can be moved. The pipe (1) has a soil anchor (4) at the bottom. The component (2) has a head (21) at the top and can be lifted from a lowered position, in which the head (21) lies next to the top face (14) of the pipe (1) into the lifted position shown against the force of a spring (3). In the lifted position, the component (2) can be stopped by means of a bayonet lock. The device is inserted into the ground vertically at a measuring, e.g., on a soccer field, such that in the lowered position, the top (25) of the head (21) is flush with the ground surface. If the markings on the field need to be renewed, the corresponding components (2) are lifted and stopped. A cord is stretched between two components (2), along which cord a straight line can be marked, or a circle can be drawn with a cord around one of the components (2). The marking of the field can thus be rationalized and expensive re-measuring can be avoided.Type: GrantFiled: December 5, 1996Date of Patent: March 9, 1999Inventor: Felice Scarpellini

Patent number: 5579716Abstract: A device for indicating the relative position of a tractor with respect to a crop row or planter mark including a vertically disposed, hollow support post secured to the forward end of the tractor at the centerline thereof. A rotatable shaft is mounted in the support post and has an upper end positioned above the support post and a lower end positioned below the lower end of the support post. A linkage is connected to the lower end of the shaft and has a follower positioned rearwardly thereof which follows the crop row or planter mark. An indicator is secured to the upper end of the shaft for movement therewith. As the tractor drifts laterally with respect to the crop row or planter mark, the indicator moves indicating to the tractor operator that the tractor must be steered back into alignment with the crop row or planter mark.Type: GrantFiled: June 12, 1995Date of Patent: December 3, 1996Inventor: Jerry L. Patent number: 5542190Abstract: The present invention is bifold field marker. The marker utilizes a marking disc mounted on the distal end of an arm. This arm is coupled to a mounting bracket which, in turn, is connected to an implement's tool bar. The arm is articulated at a central knuckle to allow the marker to fold. A hydraulic cylinder is positioned between the mounting bracket and the arm to push or pull the arm about a main pin or hinge. When the arm is in an extended horizontal position, the main pin or hinge on the mounting bracket is oriented at an angle both from the direction of travel and from the ground. This allows the hydraulic cylinder to pivot the arm about the main pin's axis and fold both sections of the arm simultaneously to a point where the marker is positioned in a compact orientation along the side of the implement.Type: GrantFiled: January 30, 1995Date of Patent: August 6, 1996Assignee: Orthman Manufacturing, Inc.Inventor: Stephen L. Wahls

Patent number: 5094001Abstract: A portable sighting device particularly adapted for facilitating the guidance of a vehicle where sight judgment is required to keep the vehicle on a right course. The device has resistably rotatable base having securing means for quick adjustment, removal and portability and a perpendicular member which supports a vertically pivotal telescopic tubular member. The vertically pivotally telescopic tubular member has an outer stationary element and an inner extendible element. The inner extendible element has sighting reference objects of different sizes and colors to facilitate a quick line of sight through one of the objects helping the operator to maneuver through an irregular course. The sighting device can be resistively pivotally permanently affixed when portability is not desired.Type: GrantFiled: December 24, 1990Date of Patent: March 10, 1992Inventor: Rodney Fraser

Patent number: 5027525Abstract: An improved field marker is provided which can be used on an agricultural implement of the type which includes wing folding. The field marker has an arm with a disk mounted on an outer end of the arm and a mounting system at the inner end of the arm for supporting the arm on the implement. The arm includes two portions which fold in a knee type action while the inner portion is folded through 90.degree. so that both portions lie along the side of the implement. The mounting assembly includes a fixed portion attached to the implement and a pivotal portion which moves about a horizontal axis. A spring biases the arm towards a raised position. In the extended position of the arm the spring force is overcome and the disk rests on the ground. As the arm retracts to the folded position and the effective weight decreases the spring forces lift the arm.Type: GrantFiled: October 2, 1989Date of Patent: July 2, 1991Inventor: Duane Haukaas
