Abstract: The invention relates to an evaluation tool and method for inspecting the integrity of any physical industry connections (hereinafter fittings). The tool comprises a first component (21) provided with a recess (23) to facilitate its engagement with a fitting to be evaluated (see FIG. 10); and a second component (20) connected to, and moveable relative to, the first component (21). Movement of the second component (20) relative to the first component (21) establishes a measurement between two surfaces (32, 33 in FIG. 10) of a fitting (34) to be evaluated, e.g. between an adjustable ferrule or nut (32) and a fixed part (33) of a fitting (34). The measurement is directly (27, 28), or indirectly, indicative of one or more predetermined connection conditions (e.g. over or under tightening of the adjustable component). The predetermined connection conditions may be read directly from the tool, remotely via an electronic device, or by late cross-referencing against entries in a database.
Abstract: In one embodiment there is a computer numerical control machine implementing a method for measuring and digitizing a cylinder head combustion chamber using a touch probe, wherein the cylinder head combustion chamber includes an intake valve and an exhaust valve. The method includes receiving combustion chamber characteristics of the cylinder head combustion chamber. The method includes receiving probe measurement variables that describe how the touch probe measures the cylinder head combustion chamber. The method includes generating probe measurement lines for each portion of the cylinder head combustion chamber using the combustion chamber characteristics and the probe measurement variables. The method includes measuring, using the touch probe, probe measurement planes for each portion of the cylinder head combustion chamber using the probe measurement lines to generate probe measurements.

Abstract: A data collection method and system for a drone aircraft. The system includes a data collection device, an extension mechanism having one end connected to the drone aircraft and an opposite free end connected to the data collection device, and a control system for controlling operation of the extension mechanism. The extension mechanism is extendable from a retracted position in which the data collection device is stowed in or maintained proximate to the drone aircraft to one or more extended positions in which the data collection device is extended away from the drone aircraft, and is also retractable to bring the data collection device back to the retracted position. The control system controls operation of the extension mechanism to position the data collection device to a desired position beyond a given obstacle to enable the data collection device to capture data relating to an object or region of interest.

Abstract: A gage for measuring the distance from a hole center to a plane, consisting of a measurement plate, a fixed block, a fixed column, and a spring. Abstract: A connector is provided for jointing two boards to have the boards mounted to and lapping over a beam. The connector has one side that is formed with an engagement slot for jointing one board and an opposite side formed with a mortise trough for jointing another board. The connector also includes a path-following hole penetrating therethrough in an up-down direction and a track channel formed in a bottom of the connector and having an opening facing downward. The engagement slot and the mortise trough have axial directions that are perpendicular to an axial direction of the track channel. Abstract: Mounting apparatuses for turbine airfoils of turbine systems are disclosed. The mounting apparatuses may include a body portion configured to be at least partially positioned between a first airfoil and a second airfoil of the turbine system, and an adjustable, first retention component formed on a first side of the body portion. The adjustable, first retention component may be configured to contact a portion of a suction side of the first airfoil of the turbine system. The mounting apparatuses may also include a second retention component formed on a second side of the body portion, opposite the first side. The second retention component may be configured to contact a portion of a pressure side of the second airfoil of the turbine system.
Abstract: A device for measuring a path under load of a first part that is in motion relative to a second part. The device includes an active telescopic bar and a connector. The telescopic bar includes a scale to measure the length of the bar, a coupler to ball link at each end of the bar, and a force sensor to measure the force applied to the bar along its longitudinal axis. The connector links each end of the bar to the first and second part, respectively. The spatial components of the force applied to one of the connector are measured. Abstract: Provided herein are approaches for processing reticle blanks. In one approach, a reticle processing system includes a support assembly having a plate coupled to a frame, and a carrier assembly coupled to the support assembly. In one approach, the carrier assembly includes a carrier base coupled to the plate, a reticle disposed over the carrier base, and a carrier shield disposed over the reticle, wherein the carrier shield may include a central opening formed therein, allowing for placement and extraction of the reticle. Abstract: An adapter converts a three-axis milling machine to a five-axis milling machine includes two gimbal assemblies. A first gimbal assembly is configured to rotate about a first rotation axis. A first gimbal positioning system is operable to rotate the first gimbal assembly about the first rotation axis with a rotational movement of a first leadscrew positioned in a first plane orthogonal to the first rotation axis. Abstract: The subject matter of this invention is a device for flexible purge management, comprising a FOUP transport system, a purging gas distribution system, one or more FOUP nests for holding FOUPs and an electronic control system. The overhead FOUP transport system, the gas distribution system and the electrical system run together for the most part. Adapter plates that serve to hold the FOUPs are arranged in the FOUP nests. A computer-supported multi-tier control system controls the device and makes it possible to individually address each FOUP nest and to also operate the remaining FOUP nests when there is partial removal.

Abstract: A method of inspecting the fan track liner of a gas turbine engine of a type having a rotatable propulsive fan circumscribed by a fan track liner and having a plurality of fan blades extending radially outwardly from a central hub. Abstract: A system and method for measuring and adjusting rotor to stator clearances is disclosed, as well as a turbomachine embodying the system and method. In an embodiment, a turbomachine is assembled, including a stator having an upper and a lower stator shell, and a rotor disposed within the stator. A cold clearance between the rotor and the stator is determined at each of a plurality of clearance measurement points using an in situ clearance sensor system. Each of the clearance measurement points is axially spaced from each other clearance measurement point. The cold clearance between the rotor and the stator is adjusted based on the determined cold clearances, by displacing one of the upper stator shell or the lower stator shell relative to a foundation, thereby changing a shape of the upper stator shell or the lower stator shell to accommodate a position of the rotor within the stator.

Abstract: Turbine blade tip clearance is measured in a fully assembled turbine casing by mounting a contact or non-contact displacement probe on a turbine blade that generates data indicative of probe distance from the turbine casing that circumferentially surrounds the blade. Variations in probe distance data are recorded as the blade circumferentially sweeps the turbine casing when the turbine is operated in turning gear mode. Blade rotational position data are collected by a rotational position sensor. A data processing system correlates the distance and rotational position data with localized blade tip gap at angular positions about the turbine casing circumference. An optical camera inspection system may be coupled to a turbine blade to obtain visual inspection information within the turbine casing. This method and apparatus provide an accurate and cost effective solution for accessing turbine casing deformation impact on blade tip clearance and rotor/casing alignment.

Abstract: Previously, in order to produce a dimensionally stable fused-quartz hollow cylinder, an output cylinder having a centre axis would have been prepared, said output cylinder being produced by means of a bore having a boring bar, said bore rotating about a horizontal axis of rotation, and by means of a boring head that has an internal bore and is fixed to said bore in a torsionally rigid manner, wherein the boring head adopts a continually changing boring head position that is continuously ascertained by means of a measuring device and is returned to a target position in the event of any deviation. The design outlay is high, however. The problem addressed by the invention is therefore that of providing a cost-effective method for producing a dimensionally stable fused-quartz hollow cylinder.

Abstract: An early warning system for alerting traffic which comprises a plurality of roadside signals, a computer, and a communications network. Each roadside signal comprises LED illumination devices, solar power sources, battery energy storage, a flexible backing, and attachment straps. The signals are activated to alert traffic to stopped responder vehicles, and can be automatically activated when a responder vehicle performs such actions as stopping or turning its emergency lights on. The system also allows for centralized user control.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method for producing and checking a thread arranged in a cylinder head to receive a spark plug. However, the invention also relates to a device for checking the thread introduced into the cylinder head. By defining a starting point of the internal thread to be produced specifically in terms of position thereof within the parent hole by using spark plug parameters, the spark plug will always be aligned with its spark gap oriented toward the injector. For the purpose of checking, use is made of a plug gage, the screw-in thread of which has the parameters of the spark plug thread and with which, by using a measuring face, the position of an extension on the threaded body can be established. The extension simulates the ground electrode of the spark plug.

Abstract: A marking device for marking the location for a support for a mountable object, such as a picture frame, has a body with a compressible or collapsible configuration and adhesive for removably attaching a back face to a backside of the mountable object. A primary marker is coupled to the body and disposed below a front face in an uncompressed configuration and projects at least to the front face to mark the surface in the compressed configuration. The marker is disposed adjacent a perimeter edge of the body to facilitate alignment. A sighting notch can be formed in the body with the marker at the apex of the notch to facilitate alignment. A secondary marker is removably coupled to the body for harder surfaces.

Abstract: A positioning device for positioning the saddle of a bicycle that includes a measuring pole and an adaptor positioned at an end of the measuring pole for coupling the end to the pedal crankshaft of the bicycle. The positioning device also includes a positioning assembly with a base that is configured to be supported on the saddle. An articulation assembly couples the base with the measuring pole. The base is slideable along the measuring pole and has a main plate that is capable of being supported on the saddle. The base includes a front stop adapted for abutting a front end of the saddle. The positioning device being adapted for incorporating an angle of inclination measuring device for measuring the angle of inclination of the measuring pole.

Abstract: The propeller blade seal positioning gauge provides for precisely marking the position(s) of the circumferential seal(s) about the blade shank of a controllable pitch propeller prior to propeller reassembly. The gauge includes an elongate arm having a stop extending from one end normal thereto. The distal portion of the arm is inwardly offset toward the spanwise axis of the blade to place the distal portion of the arm adjacent the blade shank. One or more marker notches are formed in either or both edges of the arm, their locations being precisely determined according to the specific propeller type. The stop is placed upon the butt of the blade and the tip of an appropriate marker is placed in the appropriate notch of the gauge. The device is then rotated about the blade shank to mark a circumferential ring about the shank to indicate the precise position of the seal.
Abstract: A mechanical spacing apparatus for placement between a vertical dry wall member and a horizontal flooring panel. The flooring panel and the dry-wall member meet at right angles. The spacing apparatus comprises a horizontal front projecting element for placement on the top surface of the flooring panel joined to a vertical upwards projecting element for abutting adjacent to the vertical dry-wall member. The spacing apparatus comprises horizontal and vertical elements at right angles. Projecting vertically downwards from the right angle join between the horizontal and vertical elements is a spacing element having a predetermined thickness for creating a suitable spacing distance between the inward edge of the flooring panel and the bottom of the vertical dry-wall member thereby accommodating a suitable expansion distance for the flooring installation. The apparatus is easily installed and removed by hand by a flooring installer.
Abstract: A system and method for measuring concentricity between a first component and a second component is provided. The system includes a fixture having a first spring element and a second spring element. The first spring element is configured to apply force in an orthogonal direction to the second spring element. A sensor is mounted to the fixture, and the sensor is configured to measure a distance to the second component. The fixture is configured to slide substantially inside a groove of the first component.

Abstract: There is provided a separation distance derivation system and a thickness gauge. The separation distance derivation system has a thickness gauge that includes: a plurality of blades having first ends inserted between objects; and RFID tags respectively fixed to part of the blades and storing readably thickness information corresponding to the thickness of the respective blades. The separation distance derivation system has also a reading device that includes an RF receiver for establishing contact-less communication with the RFID tags and reading the thickness information, and a controller for summating the thicknesses of the blades, as denoted by the read thickness information, to derive thereby a separation distance.
Abstract: A position adjusting device includes a support frame, two adjusting assemblies, and two distance detecting mechanisms. The support frame has a first assembly portion and a second assembly portion substantially parallel to the first assembly portion. The adjusting assemblies are slidably positioned on the second assembly portion. The distance detecting mechanisms are slidably positioned on the first assembly portion, and each of the two distance detecting mechanisms is connected to one adjusting assembly.
Abstract: A shim measurement system and a method of measuring shims are provided. One system includes a shim measuring device configured to be positioned between a first part and a second part, the shim measuring device including a template and a plurality of gap measurement sensors coupled to the template, each of the gap measurement sensors configured to measure a distance between the first and second parts, the shim measuring device configured to output a matrix of values that represent the plurality of measured distances, and a computer configured to receive the matrix of values and generate a shim model based on the matrix of values.
