    Abstract: A technique is provided for detecting the surface profile of a seat pocket of a gate valve. An inspection tool is used to detect data at a plurality of points around the bore of the valve. The inspection tool has a sensor that is moveable between a retracted position and an extended position. The inspection tool is disposed within a valve body cavity with the sensor in the retracted position. The sensor of the inspection tool is then extended outward so that it is located within the portion of the bore of the valve having the surface profile to be detected. The sensor is rotated so that the sensor may obtain surface profile data at a plurality of points around the seat pocket of the valve body. The sensor of the inspection tool is connected to a processor-based device, such as a computer. The processor-based device processes the data from the sensor and provides it to a user in a form that is recognizable to the user.

A locating face engages the inner hub land such that the measurements are taken with respect to the inner hub land. A probe is designed to engage the outer land. By rotating the valve body, the entire circumference of the outer land can be measured in relation to the inner hub land.

    Abstract: A valve stem aligning and holding apparatus for facilitating the installation of valve assemblies in a faucet having wide spread valves. The apparatus is longitudinally adjustable among a wide variety of positions. The apparatus comprises a stationary member including guide raised side sections, and a movable member adapted to coact with the guide side sections and be slidably mounted in the stationary member. The stationary member has a plurality of openings at predetermined intervals while the movable member has at least one opening adjacent one end, preferably the front end, thereof. The openings are adapted to receive and hold valve stems of valve assemblies.

    Abstract: A device for measuring the average distance between the ball retainer seating rings of a ball valve comprises a flat locator plate adapted to fit into the bonnet recess of the valve body, and a downwardly depending support arm attached to the flat plate. The support arm has a first surface perpendicular to the bottom surface of the plate and a second, opposing surface which is at an angle greater than 90 degrees relative to the bottom surface of the plate. The support arm is attached to the locator plate in a position such that when the locator plate is positioned in the bonnet recess the first surface coincides with the axis of the valve body. In one embodiment, probes are threaded and extend from threaded holes in the depending arm in a direction normal to the second surface of the arm. Thumbwheels attached to the probes are utilized to adjust the probes. In a second embodiment each probe is attached to a spring loaded probe drive element within the depending arm.
