Patent number: 7818893Abstract: An oil dipstick structure including a tubular plastic dipstick guide with an opening at one end thereof, and a dipstick rod connected to a sealing member at one end. The dipstick guide includes a dipstick abutment engageable by an abutment member on the dipstick rod when the dipstick rod is inserted into the guide. The dipstick abutment is located in the dipstick guide at the opposite end from the opening, and the length thereof is such that the dipstick abutment extends out of the dipstick guide when the abutment member of the dipstick rod is in engagement with the dipstick abutment.Type: GrantFiled: July 27, 2006Date of Patent: October 26, 2010Assignee: Renault s.a.s.Inventors: Zakaria Amiri, Frederic Dos Santos, Eric Grizaud, Christophe Monereau

Patent number: 7322232Abstract: An automatic transmission fluid dipstick-shielding tube and method of use for shielding the terminal end of the dipstick whereon fluid level indicia are imprinted to ensure accurate measurement of the fluid level within an automatic transmission or other similar machinery is disclosed. The present dipstick-shielding tube provides a physical barrier which blocks fluid from splashing over the terminal end of the dipstick to facilitate an accurate fluid level reading. In a method of the present invention, the original equipment dipstick tube is initially removed from the transmission housing. Next, the present dipstick-shielding tube is installed in the transmission housing and the original equipment dipstick tube is reinserted into the housing in end-to-end relation with the present dipstick-shielding tube. Thereafter, the original equipment dipstick is replaced providing an accurate fluid level reading.Type: GrantFiled: June 1, 2004Date of Patent: January 29, 2008Assignee: Sonnax Industries, Inc.Inventor: Lawrence P. Patent number: 5992037Abstract: An oil level indicator assembly for a vehicle engine including an elongated indicator member removably housed in a tubular sleeve which has spaced upper end and lower end portions with an interior passage therebetween and an internal shoulder-like formation therein. The elongated indicator member has a coil spring formation adapted to engage the shoulder-like formation when the indicator and sleeve are in an assembled relationship, thereby establishing a predetermined length of the indicator to project into the engine oil. The effect of oil on indicia formed on the indicator member when withdrawn from the sleeve member shows the level of oil in the engine.Type: GrantFiled: June 13, 1997Date of Patent: November 30, 1999Assignee: Chrysler CorporationInventor: James R. Patent number: 5566465Abstract: An assembly of a paint container, a sliding mixing gauge having graduations to indicate the quantities of ingredients to make a paint composition used for spray painting of vehicles and a slidable fastener for securing the gauge in the container and stabilizing its position when paint and other ingredients are poured into the container the mixing gauge being slidable removed from the fastener after measured quantities of ingredients have been added to mix the ingredients and at the end of a paint operation, the fastener is removed from the container and stored in a designated area.Type: GrantFiled: February 6, 1995Date of Patent: October 22, 1996Inventors: Carl W. Patent number: 5478966Abstract: The detector is a foldable one constructed of unit elements 1a-1n connected with each other through hinge members 6. The members 6 are staggered in arrangement along the longitudinal direction of the unfolded or stretched detector so as to permit the detector to be folded in staggered manner. In storage and transport, the detector is folded to facilitate its handling. In installation, the detector is unfolded or stretched to assume a long-reach form to facilitate its installation in a liquid-level gauge system of a storage tank 13.Type: GrantFiled: November 9, 1994Date of Patent: December 26, 1995Assignee: Tokyo Keiso Kabushiki-KaishaInventor: Tokio Sugi

Patent number: 5094008Abstract: A variable length dipstick provides fluid level indications by contacting a stop within the sump. The dipstick is removably disposed within a guide tube. The dipstick has an upper element with a handle and a seal which contact the guide tube on insertion of the dipstick into the guide tube. A lower element is slidably engaged with the upper element. The lower element has marks to indicate the appropriate fill level. A spring is functionally disposed between the upper element and the lower element, tending to keep the dipstick extended to its full length. The resultant dipstick spring load produced by insertion and sealing of the dipstick is sufficiently low so as not to overcome the seal between the seal and the guide tube.Type: GrantFiled: September 9, 1991Date of Patent: March 10, 1992Assignee: General Motors CorporationInventors: Michael A. Patent number: 5072625Abstract: A liquid level and sampling gauge is shown which includes a stick having a vertical face with a groove formed therein. A transparent sample tube is mounted in the groove and has a bottom opening. A rigid rod is located within the sample tube and has a lower end and an upper end. A valve member is carried on the rod lower end and includes an O-ring which contacts a valve seat provided in the stick lower end when the valve member is moved between an open position which admits liquid to the sample tube and a closed position. A valve operator at the stick upper end moves the valve member between the open and closed positions.Type: GrantFiled: April 25, 1990Date of Patent: December 17, 1991Inventor: Robert V. Anderson

Patent number: 4848149Abstract: A device for measuring the level of liquid fuel in a tank of the type in which one marks the hollow distance between the surface of the liquid and a horizontal reference plane made near an opening that gives access to the tank. The device includes a depth gauge containing a reference base, a mobile rule and means for measuring the relative displacement of the rule relative to the base; means for support against the reference plane of the tank integral with the reference base of the gauge; an optical probe containing static means for detection of liquid at a predetermined level and means for display that can indicate the presence or absence of liquid at this predetermined level, this optical probe being integral with the mobile rule of the gauge.Type: GrantFiled: January 28, 1988Date of Patent: July 18, 1989Assignee: Shell Oil CompanyInventors: Jean-Pierre Fiorentino, Claude Rougerie
