Abstract: A flexible locking dipstick module useful with a motor vehicle including an oil reservoir. A dipstick is disposed within a housing which has one end thereof affixed to the oil reservoir and extends therefrom to a location within the engine compartment of a motor vehicle. The end of the module disposed within the engine compartment includes a quick disconnect locking coupling providing for ready installation and removal of the dipstick. The coupling further provides protection against blow out of the dipstick in the event of inordinate build up of pressure within the oil reservoir. Further, one portion of the outboard coupling may be employed as a liquid-tight closure for a dipstick entry opening in the oil reservoir during removal and/or storage of the engine.

  • Patent number: 5992037
Abstract: An oil level indicator assembly for a vehicle engine including an elongated indicator member removably housed in a tubular sleeve which has spaced upper end and lower end portions with an interior passage therebetween and an internal shoulder-like formation therein. The elongated indicator member has a coil spring formation adapted to engage the shoulder-like formation when the indicator and sleeve are in an assembled relationship, thereby establishing a predetermined length of the indicator to project into the engine oil. The effect of oil on indicia formed on the indicator member when withdrawn from the sleeve member shows the level of oil in the engine.

  • Patent number: 5887614
Abstract: An overfill prevention device for storage tanks includes an elongate tubular housing having a liquid flow passageway. A normally open main valve and a normally closed vapor retaining bleed valve are associated with the fluid passageway. Closure of the main valve interrupts the primary flow of liquid through the passageway and closure of the bleed valve prevents any further liquid from entering the tank and also prevents the escape of vapors from the tank. Operation of the main valve is controlled in significant part by a valve latch assembly which is carried by the housing and a relatch assembly which is carried by the main valve. The relatch assembly ensures operative engagement of the main valve with the valve latch assembly upon movement of the main valve from the intermediate position to the open position. Operation of the main valve and vapor retaining bleed valve is also controlled indirectly by a plurality of floats which are maintained in a float chamber extending adjacent the liquid passageway.

  • Patent number: 5113594
Abstract: There is disclosed a short and straight oil level gauge adapted for use with an automative automatic transmission. The gauge is inserted in an oil filler tube which is also short and straight. The tube has a flexible clamping member. The gauge has a rodlike body having two ribs, a cover at the upper end of the rodlike body, a plug portion located under the cover, a tool-connecting portion located above the cover, and insertion guide surfaces formed on the body and connecting the plug portion with the body. The tool-connecting portion is shaped like a socket, and a conventional socket wrench can be inserted into this tool-connecting portion. The insertion guide surfaces are formed by two ribs or fins radially extending from the rodlike body in mutually perpendicular directions. The guide surfaces cooperate with the inner surface of the tube to assure that the clamping member of the tube engages the cover.
