Patent number: 6879653Abstract: The diameter of a segment of a peripheral rod in a fuel assembly is measured between two successive spacer grids. A measuring tool is positioned at a level situated between the two successive spacer grids, the tool comprising two measuring fingers that are free to move relative to each other in a first horizontal direction and that are urged towards each other by a resilient return arrangement, and that extend in a second horizontal direction perpendicular to the first horizontal direction. The measuring fingers are moved in the second horizontal direction towards a rod so as to put two contact pieces of the measuring fingers into contact with two zones of the rod segment. The measuring fingers are moved in the vertical axial direction of the rod along its segment situated between the two spacer grids and an electromagnetic sensor is used to measure the distance between the measuring fingers in the first horizontal direction while the measuring fingers are being moved axially.Type: GrantFiled: March 27, 2001Date of Patent: April 12, 2005Assignee: Framatome, ANPInventors: Jairo Arias, Sandrine Maire

Patent number: 6073360Abstract: A mount for mounting a measuring instrument, such as an electronic measuring transducer. The mount includes a spring operated clamp assembly for attaching the mount to a first part with a reference surface engaging a desired location on the first part. In one embodiment, the clamp assembly grips the first part between a clamp member and a clamp portion. The mount has an unclamping member which may be operated with one hand to selectively open the clamp. In another embodiment, the clamp assembly includes a first clamp member and a second clamp member urged by a spring relatively away from the first clamp member, each of the first and second clamp members having a grip by which the first and second clamp members may be urged together then selectively released to clamp the mount in a gap between the first part and a second part.Type: GrantFiled: January 22, 1998Date of Patent: June 13, 2000Assignee: JS Research and Development, Inc.Inventor: James E. Patent number: 5430954Abstract: There is disclosed a calliper, useful for measuring how much fat can be pinched beneath the skin, having jaws (4,6) pivotally mounted for relative pivotal movement. The movement is amplified by a gear train (24, 26, 28, and 30). The final gear wheel (30) drives a toothed wheel the movement of which is sensed by an opto sensor (34). A digital readout indicates the spacing between the jaws for indicating the spacing between measuring surfaces of the jaws. In contrast to conventional callipers, which are used only to transfer a dimension from an object to be measured to a measuring device, the callipers disclosed give a direct reading of the spacing between the measuring surfaces.Type: GrantFiled: February 9, 1993Date of Patent: July 11, 1995Assignee: Robert Pringle Engineers LimitedInventors: Robert E. Patent number: 5174030Abstract: An apparatus for measuring the length or perimeter of an object has a main housing part provided with a main abutment and forming a main attachment location and a movable housing part provided with a movable abutment normally spaced longitudinally from the main abutment and with a movable location forming a guide. The movable part is longitudinally displaceable on the main housing part so as to displace the abutments longitudinally relative to each other and also to displace the locations longitudinally relative to each other. A flexible but substantially inextensible element has an outer end fixed to the main attachment location and an outer portion extending between the locations, passes through the guide at the movable location, has an intermediate portion guided in the movable part, and has an inner portion extending in the main portion and an inner end.Type: GrantFiled: September 3, 1991Date of Patent: December 29, 1992Assignee: Centre Technique Cuir Chaussure MaroquinerieInventors: Robert Clot, Jerome Darragon, Bernard Buffevant

Patent number: 5070622Abstract: To measure the gaps between fuel rods in a fuel assembly, a feeler gauge is provided with a pair of resilient arms having elongated electrical resistance strips carried by their confronting surfaces and extending from terminations adjacent the free ends of the arms through a contact point of electrical inter-engagement. The strip terminations are wired into a metering circuit including a current source and an ammeter. When the arm free ends are positioned in a rod gap, the position of the contact point relative to the strip terminations determines the magnitude of resistance included in the metering circuit, and the meter registers the gap dimension.Type: GrantFiled: March 1, 1991Date of Patent: December 10, 1991Assignee: General Electric CompanyInventors: Donald F. Patent number: 4989329Abstract: A rotary displacement transducer comprises a shaft rotatably supported in a housing, and to which the rotary displacement to be sensed is applied. The shaft is axially fixed in the housing, and has a precision screw thread formed over part of its length. An internally threaded sleeve coaxially surrounds the shaft in threaded engagement with the precision screw thread, the sleeve carrying a collar having two diametrically opposed radial projections. The first projection carries a roller which engages in a slot in the housing to prevent the collar and sleeve rotating as the shaft is rotated, so that rotation of the shaft causes the sleeve and collar to move axially of the shaft by an amount dependent on the rotary displacement to be sensed. The axial movement of the collar is sensed by a linear displacement transducer of the LVDT type coupled to the other radial projection on the collar.Type: GrantFiled: March 22, 1989Date of Patent: February 5, 1991Assignee: Schlumberger Industries LimitedInventor: Roger J.
