  • Patent number: 7397325
Abstract: A method for configuring a microwave multiplexing network having a first channel filter and a second channel filter and an interconnect in order to improve channel performance. The top ends of the first and second channel filters are coupled to the closer of the top and bottom surfaces of the interconnect according to interconnect spacing values and filter to interconnect values. Interconnect values and filter to interconnect values are determined by selecting interconnect spacing values and filter to interconnect values to ensure that a pole is formed causing an additional real reflection zero to be brought into the passband of the microwave multiplexing network thereby increasing the filter order by one. Then interconnect spacing values and filter to interconnect values as well as the internal filter dimensions are selected to ensure that the return loss of the microwave multiplexing network is less than a predetermined return loss level.

Abstract: A multi-channel feed network includes a main waveguide section (either square or circular) for connection to a satellite antenna for propagating two orthogonal polarizations. The feed network further includes a low pass section connected on axis with the main waveguide, the low pass section having the same cross section as the main waveguide, and a high pass section also connected perpendicular to the main waveguide. The low pass section includes a band reject filter (BRF) formed from slots cut to reject higher frequency signals. The high pass section can be a rectangular waveguide which functions to filter low frequency signals. The feed network can be configured to support a number of different polarizations. Orthogonal linear polarizations are provided for the high frequency bands by adding additional high pass sections connected by power dividers, and for the low frequency bands by adding a conventional OMT.

Abstract: A multiplexer has a plurality of manifolds interconnected by bandpass filters of differing spectral passbands. The filters serve to segregate signal channels from each other during a process of separating microwave signals in one of the manifolds and in a process of combining the microwave signals associated with another of the manifolds. A compact rigid structure of reduced mass is attained by employing one or more of the bandpass filters as connecting filters for coupling a signal channel directly between a first of the manifolds and a second of the manifolds, wherein the construction of the manifold and the connecting filters is in the form of a rigid assembly. A base may be provided for supporting each of the manifolds and each of the bandpass filters in a unitary structure.

Abstract: An injector device for microwave filter units made up of channel filters (1″, 1″′) provided with cavities housing dielectric resonators. Each filter has an input cavity which receives a signal transmitted by a coaxial cable terminating at a connector (15″, 15″′) mounted through a wall closing the cavity at an input end of the filter. The injector device of a filter acts electrically on a dielectric resonator accommodated in the input cavity via a probe (16) consisting of a L-shaped rod having a first portion connected to the core of the coaxial cable to extend it into the cavity and a second portion acting on a dielectric element (13) of the resonator via electrical coupling means. The invention also relates to filter units equipped with such injector devices.

Abstract: A method of tuning individual filters in an assembly of filters connected to a manifold, such as a microwave multiplexer, prior to assembly of the multiplexer, is accomplished by energizing a subject filter to be tuned with an electromagnetic signal provided by a network analyzer. The filter is tuned by adjustment of a tuning component, such as a tuning screw within the filter, while the network analyzer presents the transfer function of the filter during the tuning process. To compensate for tuning effects of the other filters and of the manifold, which are manifested upon a connection of the filters to the manifold, the transfer function of the assembly is loaded into a computer of the network analyzer. Thereby, during a tuning of the filter, the presentation of the filter transfer function by the network analyzer includes the tuning effects of the rest of the assembly.

  • Patent number: 6600387
Abstract: According to the present invention, a waveguide assembly is provided and includes a common input waveguide aligned along a first axis. The input waveguide supports two frequency bands and one or more polarities, namely high and low band signals of two polarities which are typically supplied using a feed horn which is coaxially aligned with the input waveguide. The waveguide assembly also includes an output waveguide for supporting and discharging the low band signal (one or more polarities). The output waveguide extends along a second axis which is parallel to the first axis containing the input waveguide but is displaced therefrom. In order to accomplish this the waveguide assembly has two or more waveguides connecting the input waveguide to the output waveguide.
