  • Patent number: 10181373
Abstract: A reversing linear solenoid polarized in a permanent magnetic manner having a first and second end stroke position as well as at least one armature, wherein it has a spring system or is operated at such a spring system which exerts a force in the direction of the center stroke position on the armature or armatures in the end stroke position(s). The spring system and the reversing linear solenoid are coordinated with one another such that the armature or armatures are held in a permanent magnetic manner against the spring force in both end stroke positions. The spring system is configured such that the potential energy (elastically) stored by movement of the armature or armatures into its/their end stroke movements is of equal magnitude. If external restoring forces caused by the application are present, they must be taken into account in the design of the spring system.

  • Patent number: 9624994
Abstract: An electric linear motion actuator includes a locking mechanism for locking and unlocking the rotor shaft of an electric motor. The locking mechanism includes circumferentially arranged locking holes provided in a gear of a reduction gear mechanism, a locking pin moved toward and away from the locking holes, and engaged in one locking hole to lock the gear when the locking pin is moved toward the gear, and a linear solenoid for moving the locking pin toward and away from the gear. The plunger of the linear solenoid and the locking pin are formed as separate parts, and disposed coaxial with each other with their end faces axially facing each other. This prevents the moment load applied from the gear to the locking pin from acting on the plunger, thereby preventing damage to a bobbin slidably supporting the radially inner surface of the plunger.

  • Patent number: 8421568
Abstract: A solenoid arrangement having an armature member that is segmented to help minimize the radial force due to eccentricity of the armature member. The solenoid arrangement has a magnetic coil that when energized will create magnetic flux in the flux path. A pole piece is partly circumscribed by the armature member. Inner and outer air gaps are located about the armature member. Eccentricity of the armature member results in a decrease in one of the air gaps and a corresponding increase in the other. Radial gaps segment the armature member to interrupt the circumferential flux path about the armature member to inhibit magnetic flux from swirling to the side nearest the pole piece and to distribute magnetic flux substantially evenly. The radial force acting on the armature member is reduced resulting in reduced friction between solenoid components while substantially preserving the desirable level of axial force.

Abstract: An armature for a solenoid actuator is disclosed. The armature comprises a first face comprising a recess suitable for receiving a biasing spring in use of the armature; a second face opposite the first face; and fluid communication means for providing a fluid flow path through the armature between the recess and the second face in use of the armature. The first face is uninterrupted by the fluid communication means. The invention reduces the risk of cavitation damage during operation of the actuator. In one application, the actuator is used in a fluid pump for a selective catalytic reduction system.

  • Patent number: 7876187
Abstract: With variable airgap reluctance actuators problems arise due to the relationship between actuator mass and displacement range. By providing opposed surfaces in the actuator stator core and armature which have undulations typically in the form of grooves, slots and projections, a greater displacement range can be achieved whilst maintaining performance above a rated displacement force characteristic. In such circumstances by establishing a necessary rated displacement force characteristic, an actuator can be tailored and designed to meet that characteristic over a desired displacement range which has significantly less mass in comparison with a prior actuator arrangement having flat surfaces.

Abstract: An armature-stator structure (45) includes a stator (56) having a magnetic housing (57) of generally U-shaped cross-section. The housing includes an open end (58) in communication with an interior portion (60). A coil (94) is associated with the stator and to be energized to generate a magnetic field. An armature (46) has a generally ring-shaped base (48) and a generally rod-shaped stem portion (50) extending transversely from the base such that the base and stem portion define a generally T-shaped cross-section. The base is able to be received in the opened end of the housing with the stem portion extending into the interior portion. The armature moves with respect to the stator from a first position to a second position in response to the generated magnetic field. The stator and armature are configured such that a force on the armature decreases as a portion of the armature moves further into the interior portion of the body of the stator, towards the second position.
