  • Patent number: 8618898
Abstract: A system for transferring power and/or data through a skin of a vehicle includes a first module for disposition on an external surface of the vehicle, a first magnet arrangement attached to the first module, a second module for disposition on an internal surface of the vehicle, and a second magnet arrangement attached to the second module. The first magnet arrangement and the second magnet arrangement are selected to provide sufficient magnetic attraction therebetween to maintain the first module at a fixed position on the external surface of the vehicle by overcoming an air load force when the vehicle is in motion. When the first module and the second module are in registration with each other though the non-ferrous skin, at least one inductive coupling circuit through the non-ferrous skin is formed to provide one or more bidirectional paths therebetween for transfer of data signals, electrical power or both.

  • Patent number: 7948338
Abstract: An electromagnetic switch is provided which is equipped with a built-in electronic control circuit working to control energization of an exciting coil. The electronic control circuit is disposed within a chamber defined by a magnetic plate to be separate from a contact chamber. In other words, the electronic control circuit is disposed between the magnetic plate and the exciting coil, thereby avoiding the adhesion of conductive dusts, as arising from the wear of contacts, to the surface of the electronic control circuit. This results in decreases in electric insulation and short-circuit of the electronic control circuit and also eliminates the need for additional special parts to electrically insulate and shield the electronic control circuit, thus permitting the electromagnetic switch to be reduced in size and produced at a decreased const.

  • Patent number: 7548147
Abstract: A switch type ON/OFF structure for hoisting magnetic disks has a handle turnable towards one side to demagnetize and towards another side to generate a magnetic force to attract and move a work piece. The handle is hinged on one end surface of a hoisting magnetic disk which also has a first detent member and a second detent member. The first and second detent members can stop the turning of the handle. The handle further has an extensible latch member at one side spaced from the handle at a selected interval. The latch member has a distal end slidable over the second detent member and extendable downwards to allow the second detent member to be wedged in the interval and anchored. Thereby the hoisting magnetic disk can provide the magnetic attracting force and hoist and move the work piece safer.

  • Patent number: 7525404
Abstract: A vent assembly is provided for allowing internal contaminants to exit a solenoid. The vent assembly includes a vent membrane interposed between a gasket and a support. The support may have a variable diameter. The vent assembly attaches to the solenoid via a mating cover of the solenoid, which includes a vent opening that aligns with an opening in the gasket and includes a counter bore that captures the gasket. The vent assembly allows contaminants to exit the solenoid through a vent membrane. It also prevents contaminants from entering the solenoid around the vent membrane without the use of injection molding.

  • Patent number: 7007924
Abstract: A solenoid assembly for a valve includes a unitary, one-piece housing comprised of encapsulant. An electromagnetic device is completely encompassed by and embedded in the encapsulant. The device includes i) a bobbin and coil subassembly; ii) a terminal electrically connected to the coil; iii) a yoke surrounding the subassembly; iv) a flux plate electrically connected to the yoke and insulated from the coil such that a flux gap is provided between the coil and yoke; and v) a flux bushing closely received in the bobbin. Lead wires are electrically connected to the terminal and have one end embedded in the encapsulant. A hollow conduit receives and encloses the lead wires, and also has one end embedded in the encapsulant. Upon energization of the coil by current applied to the lead wires, electromagnetic forces generate a magnetic field which can be transmitted to a valve member received in the solenoid assembly.

  • Patent number: 4622532
Abstract: The invention is intended for incorporation into an enclosure confining fluid about an electromagnet of the type having a core, at least one coil disposed about the core and a current source coupled to the coil to establish a magnetic field. According to the invention, at least a portion of the peripheral wall of the enclosure surrounding the core axis resides in non-parallel relationship with the axis of the core. As a result, a part of the peripheral wall portion is in closer proximity to the wire coil than the remainder of the wall portion. As a result, the heat readily conducts through the wall portion and is dissipated efficiently. The surface exposed to the atmosphere with the above construction has a greater area than would a planar wall parallel to the core axis so that heat dissipation is enhanced.

  • Patent number: 4045756
Abstract: A lifting magnet has lengths of sealed plastic tubing positioned circumferentially of its coil prior to its encapsulation in a magnet case. The tubing is hermetically sealed every few inches along its entire length in order to divide the tubing into individually sealed segments. The sealed segments form compressible air spaces at the outer periphery of the magnet coil which permit thermal expansion of the coil and the encapsulating material without substantial force being applied by the coil and the encapsulating material to the magnet case. In the event any one or a few segments of the tubing are perforated or otherwise disabled in the course of fabrication or assembly of the magnet, the balance of the sealed segments still serve their intended purpose.
