  • Patent number: 9755407
Abstract: The present invention relates to a draw out apparatus for an air circuit breaker, and more particularly, to a draw out apparatus for an air circuit breaker capable of allowing a circuit breaker body to be stopped at a preset position, by executing idling when an abnormal operation such as an over-draw in operation and an over-draw out operation occurs at the preset position such as a disconnect position, a test position or a connect position, and capable of preventing damage of a circuit breaker and a cradle.

  • Patent number: 7019606
Abstract: A circuit breaker configured to be remotely operated by a controller is disclosed. The circuit breaker includes a set of main contacts, an operating mechanism, a remotely operable drive system configured to open and close the main contacts separate from actuation of the operating mechanism, and a control circuit in operable communication with the main contacts. The drive system includes a motor, and a primary drive responsive to the motor and in operable communication to open and close the main contacts. The control circuit indicates a closed main contact state in response to the operating mechanism being in an on position and the main contacts being closed, and an open main contact state in response to the operating mechanism being in an on position and the main contacts being held open via the drive system.

  • Patent number: 5929405
Abstract: Electrical switching apparatus such as a power circuit breaker, network protector or switch has a self-supporting operating mechanism module including a cage formed by a pair of side plates rigidly clamped in spaced relation by spacers. The cage supports all of the operating mechanism components including a helical compression close spring mounted fully between the side plates and coupled to a cam member through a rocker in a manner which maintains the forces longitudinal to the spring. The cam member has a charging cam with a charge profile for compressing the close spring and a close profile through which the spring drives the cam member to effect a controlled release of stored energy to close the contacts of the apparatus. A close prop, spring biased to an unlatched position, is latched to secure the close spring in the charged state by a latch assembly reset by a reset lever separate from the close prop which in turn is reset by rotation of the cam member during charging.

  • Patent number: 4912380
Abstract: A field installable motor operator for a circuit breaker includes a bidirectionally controllable motor that is coupled through a torque limited module to a circuit breaker operating mechanism. The motor is bidirectionally driven by a transistor switching bridge that supplies output current in reversible flow directions through one of the windings of the motor to the input of a rectifier bridge that supplies the other winding with currents that flow in the same direction. The torque limited module includes a centering and spacing ring which precisely confines the clutch elements to provide consistent torque. The motor is supplied with a current pulse of 250 milliseconds duration that is longer than the time required to fully operate the breaker. The clutch slips when breaker operation is completed and permits the motor to overrun without damage.

  • Patent number: 4491709
Abstract: A high amperage molded case circuit breaker utilizing a ratchet adapted to be operated manually or electrically and carrying a spring biased clutch connecting the ratchet to a crank for rotating the crank to tense a helical closing spring. The ratchet is disconnected from the crank when the closing spring has a predetermined tension by a crank operated trip assembly while the closing spring axis passes close to the crank axis to exert a relatively low torque on the crank. The crank rotates a handle positioner to prevent manual operation of the ratchet after the spring is tensed, while electrical operation of the ratchet continues until a switch located in any one of a large variety of positions terminates electrical operation.

  • Patent number: 4042896
Abstract: A circuit breaker is equipped with both a rotary operating handle and a power unit for selective manual and motor driven operation thereof. Mechanical and electrical control elements cooperate to insure a reliable operation in both the manual and motor driven operating modes, and, as a safety measure, to provide fool-proof, visual indications of the circuit breaker condition during the progressive stages of either operating mode. The power unit utilizes a permanent magnet, DC motor for improved performance and economies in design.

  • Patent number: 3980977
Abstract: A spiral spring interconnects a pivotably mounted drive lever that may be pivoted either by hand or by a motor, and a pivotably mounted toggle lever that is operably connected to a switch. The toggle lever is held in the switch-closed or the switch-opened positions by main latches which hold the toggle lever in position while the drive lever is pivoted to bias the spring. Once the spring is biased, stop latches engage the drive lever holding it in a spring biased position. The main latches may then be either manually operated or operated by solenoids connected to control circuitry to release the toggle lever so that the spring will react against the toggle lever to either open or close the switch depending on the position of the switch at the initiation of operation. Once the switch has either opened or closed, the spring may be either recharged automatically by the motor, or if manual operation is desired, the motor can be disabled so that the spring can be biased by manual rotation of the drive lever.
