  • Publication number: 20100026436
Abstract: An ignition coil, in particular for an internal combustion engine of a motor vehicle, has an inner magnet core which is concentrically enclosed by a primary coil and a secondary coil. The inner magnet coil is made up of sheet-metal strips stacked on top of each other, the sheet-metal strips forming a substantially rectangular or square cross-section surface of the inner magnet core. At least the lower and the upper sheet-metal strips, delimiting the inner magnet core, have, at least in partial areas, a reduced width viewed in the longitudinal direction compared to the other sheet-metal strips of the inner magnet core. This makes a primary bobbin and a secondary bobbin having an enlarged corner radius and a more uniform winding density of the primary coil and the secondary coil possible.

  • Patent number: 7626338
Abstract: A discharge lamp lighting apparatus includes a transformer unit, a casing for housing the transformer unit, and a circuit board including circuit components. In the casing, the circuit board is joined to the casing and the transformer unit is fixed to the circuit board through a heat conductive member having thermal conductivity of more than 0.1 W/(m·k). Heat produced by the transformer unit is transferred to the casing through the heat conductive member and released through the casing effectively. In the lighting apparatus, therefore, while the transformer unit is arranged relatively close to the circuit components, the heat can be prevented from affecting the circuit components.

  • Patent number: 7382220
Abstract: An ignition coil for an internal combustion engine has a rod-shaped magnetic core, which collaborates with a cushioning element in the axial direction. The magnetic core and the cushioning element are furthermore inserted into a secondary coil shell. Moreover, the coil shell has an ignition coil housing, which is filled at least partially with an epoxy resin. In order to avoid that the epoxy resin gets into the gap between the coating and the magnetic core, the cushioning element is developed as a sealing element at the same time. At the same time, the secondary coil shell has a coating on its inner wall for the accommodation of radial stresses. The ignition coil thus designed is developed to be relatively compact, and has good thermomechanical properties.

  • Patent number: 7332991
Abstract: A twin spark ignition apparatus having two high-voltage (HV) outputs incorporates features for balancing load capacitance on each HV output. The ignition apparatus provides a first high-voltage (HV) connection configured for direct mounting on a first spark plug, and a second HV connection for coupling to a second spark plug by way of an HV cable. The HV cable adds capacitance at the second HV output, as compared to a direct mount. The secondary winding is shifted by a predetermined distance, relative to the primary winding, in direction toward the direct mount end of the ignition apparatus. The shifting reduces the internal load capacitance at the second end (top), so that when the capacitance added by the HV cable is considered, the respective load capacitances are balanced. The voltage variation between the two HV outputs is reduced.

  • Patent number: 7080638
Abstract: An internal combustion engine ignition device has a resin layer in a clearance between an insulator and a winding contained in the insulator. The ignition device has a cylindrical insulator and a resin layer. The insulator has an opening portion at one end and a bottom portion at the other end. The insulator contains one of a primary winding and a secondary winding. The resin layer is formed by charging a resin in the clearance between the insulator and one of the windings. The diameter of the inner periphery of the insulator gradually increases from the opening portion to the bottom portion. When the resin layer shrinks from the opening portion toward the bottom portion of the insulator, the resin layer can shrink without getting snagged on the inner periphery of the insulator.
