  • Patent number: 7187262
Abstract: A method and apparatus for overmolding a plastic shroud onto a bobbin including the step of providing a protrusion ring on the surface of the bobbin surrounding each standoff between the bobbin and a mold wall and extending outwards from the surface of the bobbin. A plurality of standoffs and protrusion rings is presently preferred. The protrusion rings are small relative to the standoffs, have low thermal mass, and thus are readily melted by the injected molten plastic, causing interstitching between the bobbin material and the overmolding material. The interstitching creates a highly effective hermetic seal against moisture leakage along the surface of the bobbin away from the standoff site. Perfect melting of the standoffs is no longer required, and standoffs can be designed to assure proper positioning of the bobbin during the complete overmolding process.

Abstract: A transformer assembly (10) for use as a self-contained auxiliary power supply in complex machine tool applications is disclosed as having a core (16) with a first side (18), a second side (20) and a plurality of coils (21, 22, 23). Attached to the first side (18) of the core (16) is a first hollow housing (30). A second hollow housing (34) is attached to the second side (20) of the core (16). The core (16) has side edges (28) extending between the first and second sides (18, 20) thereof for effective removal and dissipation of heat generated by the transformer assembly (10). A plurality of electrical components (38) are mounted at least partially within one or more of the hollow housings (30, 34) to provide compact accommodation of the electrical components (38) by the transformer assembly (10) so that the latter occupies a minimal volume within a control panel in the complex machine tool.

  • Patent number: 4988968
Abstract: A bobbin case for use in a transformer of the double-insulated type comprises an insulating member of tube-like shape, a partition wall disposed substantially normal to the axis of the insulating member so that the inner space of said insulating member is divided into two recesses for receiving primary and secondary winding assemblies, respectively, from the opposite directions along the axis of said insulating member, and a pair of insulating rims which extend from the outer end surfaces of the insulating member at the side of the recess for receiving the primary winding assembly. The pair of insulating rims are formed such that they are capable of being bent inwardly along the outer end surfaces so as to obtain a creeping distance between said primary winding and a core inserted into center holes in said winding assemblies. By using the bobbin case, the insertion of the primary and secondary winding assemblies can easily and efficiently be carried out.
