Patent number: 6194988Abstract: A fusion apparatus is equipped with a fuse, a solid combustion agent, an igniting device, and a spring. The solid combustion agent and the igniting device are accommodated within an inner casing. The inner casing is disposed in the vicinity of, or in contact with, the fuse. The inner casing and the fuse are covered by an outer casing. The spring is disposed between the outer casing and the inner casing and urges the inner casing containing the solid combustion agent therein toward the fuse. When the igniting device receives a current supplied from the outside, the solid combustion agent is combusted by the ignition made by the igniting device and the resulting combustion heat softens the fuse. At this time, since the inner casing is pressing the fuse by means of the spring, the fuse is easily broken.Type: GrantFiled: June 29, 1999Date of Patent: February 27, 2001Assignees: Yazaki Corporation, Nichiyu Giken Kogyo Co., Ltd.Inventors: Noboru Yamaguchi, Tomonori Takamizawa, Tsugio Noda

Patent number: 6141202Abstract: The response time of a melting fuse is controlled or influenced by temporarily boosting a threshold level from a first constant value (I.sub.1) to a second dynamic value (I.sub.2) which is then caused to decay in a controlled manner during a fixed time between (t.sub.1) and (t.sub.2) and in accordance with a selectable decay function. If a current (m) flowing through the fuse exceeds the decaying threshold value a fuse blowing current is generated and supplied to the fuse, whereby the fuse blows sooner than it would have, if the excess current had prevailed for a long enough time between (t.sub.1) and (t.sub.X). On the other hand, the fuse does not blow in response to short duration transient excess currents that occur, for example at starting an engine. The engine start impulse which may be used to temporarily raise the threshold value from (I.sub.1) to (I.sub.2) and then cause said controlled decay.Type: GrantFiled: August 9, 1999Date of Patent: October 31, 2000Assignee: DaimlerChrysler AGInventors: Rainer Maeckel, Thomas Schulz
