Abstract: The device includes a coiled conductor formed of an alloy having a high electrical resistance and has an outer tubular casing of plastic material which is inert to acid or alkaline solutions. A flexible sleeve braided of fibrous glass material is slidably assembled on the coiled wire and the sleeve with coiled wire within is inserted as a subassembly into the outer tubular member to form an assembly for immersion in the liquid to be heated. Opposite ends of the heating cable extend above the liquid for attachment to electrical connections from a source of electrical power. Ground wires may also be provided to permit running of the electrical energy to ground in the event the outer tubular member is ruptured in service. Support rods are usually provided to anchor the cable to the desired configuration when immersed in the liquid to be heated.
Abstract: An open coil electric heater wherein the resistance conductor is supported on a frame. The resistance conductor in this instance, instead of being in the form of a single coiled wire, is composed of a plurality of strands of wire so as to reduce the cost of the resistance conductor while providing adequate surface area. The strands of fine wire or flat ribbon wire are braided into a rope which is formed into a series of reaches in customary manner. At least one of the strands is of a material which will provide strength to the wires that primarily generate the heat and thereby prevent sagging of such wires between wire supports. In a preferred form, the wires are loosely braided to form wide open spaces and insulated support members are projected through certain of the open spaces to support the strands in predetermined position.
Abstract: A precision resistor wherein the resistor wire is deposited in a sinuous pattern on the adhesive surface of a thin, flexible tape of electrical insulating material. In winding the tape onto a multibobbin coil form the intermediate flanges of the coil form have a flat portion of reduced radius. A coil of tape is wound on one bobbin with the adhesive side against the bobbin and is passed over the flat portion of an intermediate flange. At the crossover the tape is pressed to conform to the shape of the flange and then passed around the axial body of the adjacent bobbin to commence the winding of the next coil of tape on the adjacent bobbin.
Abstract: An electrically heatable floor covering comprising a carpet of woven fibers, wherein an electrical heating element is enclosed in the carpet body, which is made of a straight thin copper wire having a reinforcing coating of polytetrafluoroethylene which causes the wire to withstand impressions produced by footsteps and by heavy furniture without being broken.
Abstract: The invention relates to adhesive compositions comprising vinyl containing organopolysiloxanes, organopolysiloxanes having Si-bonded hydrogen atoms and catalysts which promote the addition of the Si-bonded hydrogen atoms to the vinyl groups. These adhesives may be combined with other electrically conductive materials and used in connecting flexible heating resistors to electrodes.
