Patent number: 4571482Abstract: Electric heater assembly for use typically with hand-held soldering or desoldering devices includes an elongated resistance element formed from a thin flat metal foil having three connected areas of different resistance, the differing resistance being caused by the different widths of the areas. The first area, to which terminals are attached, is the widest and acts as a heat sink. The second area decreases in width to the first area and acts as a transition area between the first and third areas. The first and second areas include first and second separated portions for providing electrical current to the first area and returning it therefrom. The first area includes first and second strips respectively connected to the first and second portions of the second area. The strips extend adjacent a first side edge of the third area in a side-by-side relationship to the distal end of the resistance element and then back towards the second area to a position where they are connected to one another.Type: GrantFiled: October 27, 1983Date of Patent: February 18, 1986Assignee: Pace, Inc.Inventor: Alan D. Patent number: 4553125Abstract: A resistance element capable of withstanding a high voltage is formed through impurity diffusion in a single crystal island of a semiconductor integrated circuit substrate. The resistance element includes a resistive region formed in an exposed surface of the single crystal island and folded reciprocatively by at least one and a half turns in a planar zigzag-like pattern. The pitch at which the resistive region is folded is decreased as viewed in the direction in which extension of depletion layer formed within the single crystal island upon application of a voltage between two ends of the resistive region is decreased.Type: GrantFiled: October 13, 1982Date of Patent: November 12, 1985Assignee: Hitachi, Ltd.Inventor: Yoshitaka Sugawara

Patent number: 4529958Abstract: The electrical resistor of the present invention comprises a flat metal plate having a thickness from 1 mil to 50 mils. A pair of electrical leads are operatively attached to the ends of the metal plate, and the side edges of the metal plate are provided with a plurality of notches extending inwardly in spaced apart relation to one another, with slots of one of the sides of the plate being staggered with respect to the slots of the other side of the plate. Patent number: 4527050Abstract: An electric hotplate has a hotplate body in the form of a thin ceramic substrate, to whose bottom surface is applied, e.g. by printing, a thin resistive material film. This resistive material film is covered by a protective coating, which prevents damage. Between the protective coating and the bottom tray of the hotplate is provided a thermal insulating layer. Patent number: 4486652Abstract: A processor apparatus is provided in which a blackbody radiator having a constant planar energy flux characteristic is placed in opposition to semiconductor material. The blackbody source produces a constant planar energy flux to uniformly heat the material. The source is heated to a sufficiently high temperature for a sufficient time to anneal or activate a semiconductor wafer or to epitaxially regrow a thin epitaxial film. The processor is operated by accomplishing the steps of presenting a blackbody radiator in opposition to semiconductor material to be thermally treated, radiatively heating the material to a sufficiently high temperature for a sufficient time to accomplish the desired process result, and cooling and removing the material. In the interval between presentation of successive samples of the material to the source, the source may be shuttered or idled to reduce energy consumption.Type: GrantFiled: May 10, 1983Date of Patent: December 4, 1984Assignee: Varian Associates, Inc.Inventors: Richard S. Muka, Carl J. Russo

Patent number: 4450347Abstract: This heating body is cut from a metal sheet (1) and defined by slots (2) obtained by punch stamping on a support (4) of plastics foam. The opposite edges of these slots (2) are spaced from one another by deformation of the portion of the conductor (7) adjacent to these slots, obtained by the bevelled shape of the portion of the cutter (3) defining the cutting edge and by the compressibility of the material forming the support (4). According to the method of manufacturing this heating body, its external profile and the slots (2) are obtained by a same single punching operation.Type: GrantFiled: June 24, 1982Date of Patent: May 22, 1984Assignee: Battelle Memorial InstituteInventors: Guy Courvoisier, Simon Arieh

Patent number: 4370548Abstract: An electrical heating element material of a sheet form is provided, which is comprised of a web of a synthetic resin having a plurality of metal conductor wires arranged therein in parallel to one another along the longitudinal direction of the web. The web is folded in succession at predetermined intervals along folding lines inclined at a small acute angle to the transverse direction of the web to form a substantially two-layer parallelogrammatic sheet. Considering the small angle, the sheet is, for practical purposes, rectangular.Type: GrantFiled: August 11, 1980Date of Patent: January 25, 1983Assignee: Ube Industries, Ltd.Inventors: Toshio Nagasawa, Yoshio Nishihara
