Patent number: 11142863Abstract: A dryer appliance and a method of operating the same are provided. In one aspect, the dryer appliance includes a drum rotatably mounted within a cabinet. The drum defines a chamber that is in fluid communication with a conditioning system of the dryer appliance. The conditioning system heats air circulating therethrough and removes water from the process air. A collection tank collects the water and a drain pump removes water from the collection tank intermittently when the water reaches a predetermined level. The frequency at which the drain pump removes water from the collection tank is utilized to determine the moisture extraction rate indicative of the rate at which moisture is removed from the clothes. The moisture extraction rate is utilized to control the mass flow rate of refrigerant in a heat pump sealed system or the process air flow rate through the closed loop air circuit.Type: GrantFiled: October 22, 2019Date of Patent: October 12, 2021Assignee: Haier US Appliance Solutions, Inc.Inventors: David Scott Dunn, Jivko Ognianov Djerekarov, Brian Michael Schork

Patent number: 9869514Abstract: This sludge drying device is characterised in that a gas entraining a mix of sludge and sand is recycled after drying (6) and separation (8) to be compressed (10) and circulate again through the dryer (6) acting as a heat exchange fluid. Compression has been performed to increase the dew point temperature of the gas containing the evaporated moisture, such that the latent heat of evaporation can be recovered by the drying gas. The required operating power can then be much lower than the required power for evaporating the moisture contained in the sludge, because most of this power is recovered.Type: GrantFiled: August 5, 2011Date of Patent: January 16, 2018Assignee: COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE ET AUX ENERGIES ALTERNATIVESInventor: Geert Haarlemmer

Patent number: 7998515Abstract: Coffee beans are roasted with heated air in a roasting chamber, and contaminant-laden exhaust air including caffeine entrained therein is discharged from the chamber. While roasting is in progress, the exhaust air from the chamber is heated, directed through a catalytic converter and cooled to a temperature between about 250° F. to 325° F. Thereafter the cooled exhaust air flows through a cooler or condenser where the temperature of the cooled exhaust air is further lowered to between about 100° F. and 155° F., and it is then directed through a HEPA filter to remove caffeine particles that are present in the cooled air. Substantially caffeine-free clean exhaust air can then be discharged from the HEPA filter directly to the surroundings of the roasting machine such as a closed room, e.g. a retail establishment, frequented by persons.Type: GrantFiled: June 6, 2007Date of Patent: August 16, 2011Assignee: Group 32 Development and Engineering, Inc.Inventors: Matthew P. A first chamber is positioned near the control surface, with the first chamber having a gas introduction device. A second chamber is positioned near the control surface, the second chamber having a gas withdrawal device. The control surface and the chambers together define a region wherein the adjacent gas phases possess an amount of mass. Upon inducement of at least a portion of the mass within the region, the mass flow is controlled to significantly reduce dilution of the gas phase component in the adjacent gas phase. This is accomplished through the introduction of a controlled gas stream thereby reducing the flow of an uncontrolled ambient gas stream due to pressure gradients in the system.Type: GrantFiled: April 11, 2006Date of Patent: July 5, 2011Assignee: 3M Innovative Properties CompanyInventors: Craig A. Publication number: 20100083530Abstract: A method and apparatus for torrefaction of water containing cellulosic materials is performed in an inert atmosphere. The cellulosic material is cascaded through the apparatus between a plurality of rotatable trays vertically stacked within multiple processing zones. Steam being generated from heating of the cellulosic material is recycled back to the apparatus to provide an inert atmosphere. The steam may be superheated in a heat exchanger. Exhaust from the torrefaction zone of the apparatus has some moisture and other volatiles removed prior to being reheated in a burner.
