Abstract: The present invention describes a car anti-theft system. Specifically, the present invention has an organic light-emitting diode (OLED) patterned onto a visible surface of a vehicle. Vehicle theft is recognized when an unauthorized driver fails to enter a predetermined code, resulting in lighting of OLED. Lighted OLED may be seen by passers-by who may then alert police that a car is in the process of being stolen. Alternatively and additionally, OLED's may be integrated into primary car alarm systems so as to add an additional, visual, layer of car protection.

Abstract: A hand-held remote locator (RL) device is used to locate a transponder or micro-transponder (MT). The user activates the RL to transmit a multi-frame ping to the MT in a slow ping mode, where the MT transmits reply messages when the multi-frame ping is received The RL calculates a distance between the RL and the MT using the time-of-flight (TOF) between the transmission of a ping and the receipt of a reply. The user can then engage a fast ping mode, where the RL transmits the multi-frame ping at an increased rate. The user then extends the RL device away from their body and turns through at least a partial arc length about their center line such that data is collected including compass readings, Doppler information, and distance calculations. The directional location for the MT is determined by the RL using the collected data.

Abstract: A vehicular burglar-proof system includes (i) a plurality of alarm unit, (ii) a detection unit for detecting movement, opening, and closing of a movable body, and (iii) a control unit connected to the plurality of alarm unit and the detection unit. A predetermined operation of the movable body allows the control unit to turn off the plurality of alarm unit or change the alarm unit into a predetermined alarming state. This structure can provide a user-friendly vehicular burglar-proof system in which an alarming state can easily be selected according to the use.

  • Patent number: 7164986
Abstract: A device tracking location adherence and route adherence technology, is disclosed that at least provides a tracked device receiving, a set of coordinates associated with a boundary area, and obtaining a position of the tracked device. Based upon the received coordinates and the detected position of the tracked device, a determination is made as to whether the tracked device is located inside the boundary area or outside the boundary area. An alert signal is then generated and transmitted if the result of the determining is different from an immediately previous obtained result. The system allows, for example, drastic reduction in the amount of data traffic required within a system since the tracked device performs much of the necessary processing. This is especially advantageous where a fleet of tracked devices are employed within a network.

Abstract: A vehicle locating apparatus includes a first housing that is translucent and has an enclosed interior having an aperture therein for receiving a coupler that is adapted for removably attaching the first housing to a vehicle antenna. A light emitter assembly is mounted on the coupler and extends into the first housing. A first control is electrically coupled to the light emitter for selectively turning the light emitter on or off. A second housing is removably attachable to the vehicle. A sound emitter assembly is mounted in the second housing. A second control is electrically coupled to the sound emitter for selectively turning the sound emitter on or off. An actuator is adapted for selectively sending a remote signal to the first control or the second control so that a respective one of the light and sound emitters is turned on.

  • Patent number: 7091835
Abstract: An on-board unit for a vehicle is disclosed. The unit includes a primary communication system, the primary communication system being adapted to communicate with a remote location, and being further adapted to detect a stolen condition or receive an indication of a stolen condition. The unit also includes a process for determining whether communication with a central location can be effected. A secondary communication system is provided, the secondary communication system transmitting a signal including an identification of the on-board unit when communication with the central location cannot be effected. This signal is received by a receiver, which is in direct or indirect communication with the central location, so that the central location can take the appropriate steps to recover the vehicle which includes the on-board unit that is emitting the signal.

  • Patent number: 7053769
Abstract: A vehicle safety system is disclosed. There are three major parts of the system—the proximity reader (200) mounted in the taxi (201), the host system (202) at a central location (203) and the data replication facility. The vehicular system (10) is essentially a computer having inputs and outputs. The inputs to the system (10) include, for example, passenger identification information (11) which is supplied by a sensor (12) which communicates with a wireless smart card (13), which is carried by a passenger (14). In its most rudimentary form, the smart card (13) transmits a unique identification number. In more sophisticated embodiments, the smart card (13) may also transmit biometric information such as fingerprint information or facial image information. The passenger (14) may also be requested to input a PIN number to a keypad (15) mounted on the exterior of the vehicle (16).

Abstract: A system for monitoring the location of individuals, such as parolees, includes a wearable device worn by the individual and a portable device operatively coupled to the wearable device. The portable device is operatively coupled to a monitoring system through a wireless telephone network. The portable device transmits periodically encrypted location information as well as status information across the wireless network to the monitoring system. The monitoring system tracks the location of the individual and alerts the appropriate authorities when the individual violates a rule, such as a condition for parole. The portable device increases the time between transmissions when the individual is within a specified home location and reduces the time between transmissions when outside the specified location.
