Patent number: 7423545Abstract: The present invention is a technique for locating and identifying a failed filter/arrester in an underground conveyance such as a fiber optic cable. A sensor is installed in the filter/arrester housing to sense grounding of a cable locating frequency. The sensor will monitor the cable locating signal that is normally on the cable and blocked by the filter arrester to ground. A small radio frequency oscillator (85 to 88 Hz), also installed inside the filter housing, is activated by the sensor. The RF signal is detected above ground with standard cable locating equipment. A warning indicator such as an indicator light may also be installed on the outside of the filter housing. The indicator is also activated by the sensor. In that way, the particular failed filter can be identified if multiple filters are installed at that location. The power that will be required to operate the RF transmitter and indicator will be obtained from the voltage passing through the cable.Type: GrantFiled: November 28, 2005Date of Patent: September 9, 2008Assignee: AT&T Corp.Inventors: Connie H. In a preferred embodiment, the first measurable characteristic is vehicle speed and the second measurable characteristic is engine speed so that the display functions as a combined speedometer and tachometer. A corresponding method is also provided.Type: GrantFiled: January 12, 2004Date of Patent: August 28, 2007Assignee: General Motors CorporationInventor: Kevin G. Kolpasky

Patent number: 7256688Abstract: A driving assistance display apparatus enables the driver to check safety of both the rear of and a limited area around the vehicle in the final stage of parking without switching screens. A screen to display an image of the rear of a vehicle shot by a vehicle-mounted camera is divided into a main screen (10) and a sub-screen (11). A wide area image in the rear of the vehicle is displayed together with superimposed guide lines (15, 16) on the main screen (10) The image is viewpoint-converted to an image having a virtual viewpoint located above the vehicle and is displayed on the sub-screen (11) together with superimposed guide lines (15a, 16a), which are also viewpoint converted, on the sub-screen (11). Preferably, the center axis of the main screen (10) coincides with the center axis of the sub-screen (11) and the sub-screen 11 is arranged below the main screen (10).Type: GrantFiled: August 8, 2002Date of Patent: August 14, 2007Assignee: Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd.Inventor: Kazufumi Mizusawa

Patent number: 7248175Abstract: The present invention relates to a synchronously lighting apparatus of a vehicle meter. The digital signal transformed from the measured value triggers the light-emitting device of the light-outputting group so as to change the lighting status and triggers the display machine synchronously. Accordingly, an obvious warning is obtained.Type: GrantFiled: February 4, 2005Date of Patent: July 24, 2007Inventor: Shih-Hsiung Wu

Patent number: 7248176Abstract: A color-changeable warning apparatus of a vehicle meter transforms a measured value of the target position into a first digital signal and adopts a setting value as a second digital signal. The first digital signal and the second digital signal are compared by a comparison program, wherein the parameter comparison result is read by a processing unit so as to trigger a light-emitting device of a light-outputting group to change the outputted light color thereby achieving the warning purpose.Type: GrantFiled: February 4, 2005Date of Patent: July 24, 2007Inventor: Shih-Hsiung Wu

Patent number: 7242311Abstract: A method is performed to provide a multi-functional user interface on a work machine for displaying suggested corrective action. The process includes receiving status information associated with the work machine and analyzing the status information to determine an abnormal condition. The process also includes displaying a warning message on the display device indicating the abnormal condition and determining one or more corrective actions to handle the abnormal condition. Further, the process includes determining an appropriate corrective action among the one or more corrective actions and displaying a recommendation message on the display device reflecting the appropriate corrective action. The process may also include displaying a list including the remaining one or more corrective actions on the display device to provide alternative actions to an operator.Type: GrantFiled: October 29, 2004Date of Patent: July 10, 2007Assignee: Caterpillar Inc.Inventors: Brian D. Patent number: 7227459Abstract: A vehicle imaging system includes an imaging array sensor having a field of view directed outwardly from the vehicle and toward an external scene, first and second optic elements, and a control responsive to an output of the imaging array sensor. The imaging array sensor has at least first and second portions, with the first optic element positioned along a first optic path between the first portion of the imaging array sensor and the external scene, and the second optic element positioned along a second optic path between the second portion of the imaging array sensor and the external scene. The control processes the output and distinguishes the first image and the second image in order to identify objects of interest in the external scene. The control generates a control output in response to the processing.Type: GrantFiled: November 9, 2004Date of Patent: June 5, 2007Assignee: Donnelly CorporationInventors: Brent J Bos, Kenneth Schofield
