Timed Access Blocking Patents (Class 340/5.28)
  • Patent number: 7872565
Abstract: When a movable barrier operator detects (101) a predetermined state with respect to a remote transmitter learning mode, the movable barrier operator can respond by temporarily requiring (103) at least a first programmer protection duration of time to pass before permitting the movable barrier operator to respond to a remote transmitter-sourced barrier movement control signal. By one approach this first programmer protection duration of time is longer than a loss-of-signal detection duration as characterizes the movable barrier operator.

  • Patent number: 7533811
Abstract: A check-in method for airlines allows passengers to use Short Message Service (SMS) to check-in themselves and baggage. A passenger requests to check-in via SMS from practically anywhere and not limited to the airport. After receipt of the request, a confirmation message is sent back to the passenger's registered mobile phone number by SMS. The system will ask the passenger for, and receive from the passenger, the number of bags they intend to check-in for the flight. The passengers can in some embodiments drop the baggage off without any required further action. The system issues an SMS-based cryptographically secure code, such as a bar-code boarding pass to the passenger once the baggage (if any) is successfully transferred and registered to existing baggage management systems through the process above. This code, when scanned, recognized and authenticated provides identification and security clearance for the passenger to board the aircraft.

  • Patent number: 6998957
Abstract: A security system for a construction machine including a construction machine equipped with a body controller for storing a first password, management apparatus arranged in a location apart from the construction machine and a portable communications unit for storing a second password provided communicably with the management apparatus and the body controller. The portable communications unit, receiving the first password from the management apparatus, replaces the second password with the first password. The body controller determines whether the second password output from the portable communications unit coincides with the first password. In case these passwords coincide with each other, an engine drive signal is output. Otherwise the engine is kept inoperable. This prevents possible theft of a construction machine.

  • Patent number: 6968998
Abstract: A limited electronic system and method are provided for automatically shutting down equipment when an account associated with purchased or leased equipment falls into arrears. The system includes a control center (connected to a machine) with a screen display, means for entering a code, and a controller. The controller has a disabling program that shuts down the machine after a predetermined interval, such as time. Because the program automates the shut-down when no (timed) interval is in place, the user must obtain a “re-set code” from a non-user—i.e., the financing entity, the equipment supplier, the account manager, or other entity—and enter it into the system to set the next interval so the machine remains operational. The re-set code is generated by the machine. The non-user at a location remote from the machine receives or generates parallel re-set codes.

  • Patent number: 6963267
Abstract: A modifiable transmitter is used with an operator to control a position of a barrier. The operator includes a controller for comparing radio frequency transmissions received with stored serial numbers so that the controller can move the barrier when a radio frequency transmission matches any one of the stored serial numbers. The transmitter includes a housing that carries an encoder. A function button is carried by the housing, wherein actuation of the button generates in a non-standard way a new serial number that can be learned by the controller to allow the modifiable transmitter to move the barrier by emitting the radio frequency transmission. A restricted access may also be activated to generate a new serial number.

  • Publication number: 20040252017
Abstract: Secure Home Delivery SystemA system for providing secure delivery or collection of goods too large to be delivered through traditional apertures such as the letterbox, to a location, such as a home, where the goods have previously been remotely ordered using remote means such as the internet or telephone. Access to a secure location, for example, a dedicated receptacle, garage or shed, is achieved by presentation of an access code by the delivery personnel, the origin of which is linked to the order of the goods. The access code may be computed using time-based algorithms that are replicated by the lock at the delivery location, unlocking occurring when the access codes coincide. The lock can provide access to a key safe, which in turns holds keys to a secure location. The system could equally be used for the collection of goods and for providing access to utility meters.
