Threshold Or Window (e.g., Of Analog Electrical Level) Patents (Class 340/511)
  • Patent number: 10970164
Abstract: A storage device includes a nonvolatile memory device, and a controller that reads first data from the nonvolatile memory device. When a number of first errors of the first data is not smaller than a first threshold value, the controller determines whether the first errors include timing errors arising from a variation of signal transmission timings between the nonvolatile memory device and the controller and performs a retraining operation on the signal transmission timings when the first errors include the timing errors.

Abstract: A remote controllable monitoring system includes a movable sensor to monitor characteristic(s) of electrical components of equipment housed at different locations inside of an electrical enclosure. The movable sensor is movably mounted inside of the electrical enclosure. The monitoring system can also control the power supplied to the electrical components (e.g., turn power ON or OFF). A remote device interacts with the monitoring system to provide a user with remote control over the functions of the monitoring system. The remote device can include an interactive user interface with a virtual map of the electrical components. Accordingly, the user can monitor electrical components and turn OFF power to the electrical components if a problem or perspective problem is detected, via the interactive user interface of the remote device without opening or being near the electrical enclosure.

Abstract: Systems and methods for using multi-criteria state machines to manage alarming states and pre-alarming states of a hazard detection system are described herein. The multi-criteria state machines can include one or more sensor state machines that can control the alarming states and one or more system state machines that can control the pre-alarming states. Each state machine can transition among any one of its states based on sensor data values, hush events, and transition conditions. The transition conditions can define how a state machine transitions from one state to another. The hazard detection system can use a dual processor arrangement to execute the multi-criteria state machines according to various embodiments. The dual processor arrangement can enable the hazard detection system to manage the alarming and pre-alarming states in a manner that promotes minimal power usage while simultaneously promoting reliability in hazard detection and alarming functionality.

Abstract: A system and method are described for determining properties of particulates. The device collects particulates on the surface of an oscillating balance and compares the natural resonant frequency of the balance with the particulates with a balance without particulates. In addition, the collected particulates are illuminated with light that is absorbed by the particulates. This causes the balance to heat up, affecting the natural resonant frequency. A comparison of the natural resonant frequencies reveals optical properties of the collected particulates, which may be used to speciate the particulates.

Abstract: A method for passive optical motion detection uses an optical sensor arrangement comprising an optical sensor having at least one signal channel. The optical sensor arrangement is initialized for repeated signal acquisition and an initial frame comprising a tuple of sensor data is collected from the at least one signal channel. The initial frame is set as a previous frame. A loop of motion detection is entered and the following steps are repeated. First, a current frame comprising another tuple of sensor data is collected from the at least one signal channel. Then, a motion parameter is computed from a motion metric depending on the current and previous frames. The so computed motion parameter is compared with a threshold value. A motion event parameter is set depending on the comparison of the motion parameter with the threshold value. The current frame is set as previous frame so that the loop can start all over again.

Direct current is supplied by one or more ultra-capacitors and the decay in discharge voltage of the capacitor(s) is compensated for by passing the current from each capacitor through a resistor ladder network circuit having resistors connected in parallel. Individual resistors are switched on or off in a sequence effective to change the resistance of the circuit and maintain the current within a predetermined range. Abstract: A security system that can be used in a home, office, or other building in order to generate alarms or take other actions depending on conditions within the building. The security system may rely on sensors within the building which sense various conditions and collect other data. The information learned from the sensors can be communicated to a location outside the building for processing, such as, but not limited to, processing associated with a need to instigate an alarm.

  • Patent number: 8890676
Abstract: A first alert and a second alert are received. The first alert indicates a first fault related to a first component of the multiple components and the second alert that indicates a second fault related to a second component of the multiple components. The first component affects the second component such that the first fault caused the second fault. A correlation between the first alert and the second alert is determined and, based on the determined correlation, a determination is made that the first fault is a root cause of the first alert and the second alert. An indication that the first fault is the root cause of the first alert and second alert is provided.

  • Patent number: 8880922
Abstract: The power consumption of a computer is dynamically managed independent of the OS or applications and without any delay time caused by system control. A blade server has server blades each including a processor, a power-saving control unit and a power sensor unit; a power supply box that supplies power to the server blades; and a single service processor which defines an electric current consumption upper limit value in the power sensor unit via the power-saving control unit of each server blade. When the electric current consumption of the server blades exceeds the electric current consumption upper limit value, a signal outputted by the power sensor unit is communicated to the processor, the operating frequency of the processor is controlled, and the maximum average power is controlled to be at or below the power consumption upper limit value.

  • Patent number: 8872649
Abstract: An alarm system control center has subscribers connected to it by a two-wire line. The subscribers receive via the two-wire line both a power supply voltage and communication messages in the form of pulse trains impressed on the power supply voltage as voltage modulation. Each subscriber includes a constant current circuit which is connected to the two-wire line and which is used to charge a storage capacitor with a voltage regulator coupled to it. In order to reduce communication errors, a transformer is provided to reduce power supply voltage to an internal value which is lower than the than the power supply voltage at least by the voltage swing of the pulses of the communication messages on the two-wire line.

  • Patent number: 8854222
Abstract: The disclosure provides an emergency message transmission method and an electronic device implementing the method. The electronic device stores a reference voltage value and comprises a smoke assessing unit. The method includes steps: capturing air composition around the electronic device, assessing whether the air composition has changed, if the air composition has changed, detecting an electrical current of the smoke assessing unit, amplifying the electrical current and converting the amplified current to a voltage value, comparing the converted voltage value with the reference voltage value, judging whether the converted voltage value reaches the reference voltage value, and if the converted voltage value reaches the reference voltage value, outputting a signal including an emergency message.

  • Patent number: 8836517
Abstract: A method and system are implemented for monitoring the thermal dissipation from a computer processing unit. The system comprises a temperature sensor, and a temperature controller. The temperature controller is configured to set a temperature observation window in a first temperature range, gradually narrow the observation window from the first temperature range after a monitored temperature of the processing unit has entered the observation window, and issue an alert signal when the monitored temperature exits the observation window.

  • Patent number: 8768556
Abstract: An apparatus defines a protection envelope in an aircraft, including a processor and at least one sensor, each sensor being coupled with the processor, the processor executing at least one neural network based algorithm. The at least one sensor monitors flight parameters of the aircraft thereby generating monitored flight parameters. The processor divides the performance envelope of the aircraft into predefined flight regimes, wherein for each predefined flight regime, the processor defines and stores a suitable protection envelope. The processor determines an estimated flight regime of the aircraft using the neural network based algorithm based on the monitored flight parameters. The processor selects a respective suitable protection envelope for the aircraft based on the estimated flight regime.
