Abstract: Indoor positioning networks are faced with several challenges. The methods employed by many indoor positioning systems require highly accurate time synchronization. Where many responders must be synchronized together, the accuracy of the time-synchronization can be improved via a synchronization tree that identifies preferable paths to synchronize responders and eliminates ambiguity. Moreover, where absolute location information is available for less than all of the responders, accurate round trip time measurement can be used to obtain the relative locations of the responders to each other. Where the relative locations are known, any absolute location of a responder can be extrapolated to the remaining responders. Finally, with the use of appropriate algorithms, these round trip time measurements can be collected in reference to a device that is stationary or moving.

Abstract: A visitor detection unit includes a digital processor, an RF transceiver, a sensor and digital memory. Preferably, the digital memory includes code segments executable on the digital processor for transmitting a beacon signal via a transmitter portion of the RF transceiver, monitoring via the sensor for a visitor event monitoring via a receiver portion of the RF transceiver for a beacon response event, and selectively transmitting metadata via the transmitter portion of the RF transceiver that is related at least one of the visitor event and the beacon response event. In this example embodiment, an enclosure is provided for the digital processor, the RF transceiver and the digital memory such that the visitor detection unit can be mounted on a surface proximate to a physical area to be monitored.

  • Patent number: 9918605
Abstract: An example robot includes a body that is movable relative to a surface, a bumper mounted on the body to enable movement of the bumper relative to the body, a sensor to produce a signal in response to the movement of the bumper relative to the body caused by contact between the bumper and the surface, and a controller to control movement of the body to cause the body to track the surface based on a value. The bumper is movable between an uncompressed position relative to the body and a compressed position relative to the body. The signal varies linearly with the movement of the bumper relative to the body. The value is based on the signal and indicates that the bumper in a partially compressed position has a compression range between the uncompressed position and the compressed position.

  • Patent number: 9881486
Abstract: A portion of data is received from each sensor of a plurality of sensors. An emergency level corresponding to each metric of a plurality of metrics is calculated, where the calculated emergency level is determined based on the portion of data received from the sensors. A total emergency level corresponding to the current situation is calculated, where the calculation of the total emergency level is based on the emergency level calculated for each metric. It is determined whether the total emergency level is above a critical threshold, where the critical threshold is selected by the user. If it is determined that the total emergency level is above the critical threshold, an alert is sent to a party such as one or more local authorities.

  • Patent number: 9841491
Abstract: The disclosure generally relates to an enhanced positioning system and method using a combination or hybrid filter. In one embodiment, Time-Of-Flight (ToF) measurements are used to determine an approximate location for a mobile device in relationship to one or more Access Points. The ToF combined with known and unknown variables are then processed through a hybrid filter system to determine location of the mobile device. The hybrid filter system may include a Kalman Filter (KF) for processing linear models and generally Gaussian noise distribution. The KF assumes that the state probability of mobile device location is Gaussian. Such variables include, for example, WiFi ToF bias. The hybrid filter system may include a Bayesian Filter (BF) for processing variables having non-Gaussian noise distribution and non-linear models. Such variables include, for example, the coordinates of the mobile device. A probability determination from each of the KF and BF is then applied to estimate the mobile device location.

Abstract: The present invention provides a method of monitoring the position of a vehicle, vessel, rail car, barge, tanker truck that is loaded with bulk or hazardous material. A G.P.S unit is set to send a signal to a radio transmitter if the unit moves beyond a maximum permissible distance (for example, 50 feet or more). An oxygen sensor can be used to send a signal to a radio transmitter if oxygen levels fall below a selected minimum concentration. The radio transmitter can send the message to a tugboat crew, police department, fire department, company headquarters, civil defense office or other personnel if either of the unit has moved beyond the selected maximum travel distance or if oxygen levels fall below a minimum concentration. In addition to the radio transmission of oxygen concentration data and/or G.P.S position data, visible or audible alarms can be used such as strobe light, horn or the like.
